Hey, hey, hey...Rick Pitino sends out an email to everyone who enters the portal. URI only sends it out to 75%. We have standards.

Re: ‘18 PA SG - Allen Betrand (Towson Transfer)
Unfortunately it’s not funny to get a reputation to be offering everybody. Worse yet in May when pickings are at their slimmest.
We have performed poorly over last many years whenever we did late spring recruiting. I know times are different with all the flood of transfers but this sure brings back memories of Jim Baron recruiting tactics.

Hold on, wait, you really think we are offering everybody? There are over 800+ names in the portal, we’ve offered maybe 10-15. We have 3-4 slots to fill. I’d say that’s par for the course.

Re: ‘18 PA SG - Allen Betrand (Towson Transfer)
Give me a break. URI is in the sweet spot of the new transfer rule. A quality non P 5 is going to be in the battle of their life every year. If you do your job right you’re going to replace players that leave with better players. So far I’m impressed with Coach Cox’s fight. Keep offering any Nitwit that tells you, your in too many mixes, is not that successful in life. That’s a given.

Re: ‘18 PA SG - Allen Betrand (Towson Transfer)
Cox has some PA ties, and we have a lot more to offer in terms of PT than those other schools do. I’d choose us over all schools except Dayton, but they have guards in front of him.
Minnesota and DePaul are in P5s but they are bad teams.

Minnesota is a pretty good program and Dayton won’t be easy to beat out. We could theoretically have the starting guard position open for him to claim especially if Fatts doesn’t return. Sheppard at point and Leggett and Berry off the bench

At this point, isn't it a gamble to take on another transfer?

Re: ‘18 PA SG - Allen Betrand (Towson Transfer)
I would say at this point, everything is a gamble.
Are we even going to have a season come October? Are people going to be allowed to attend?
Going outside is a gamble these days. I say take all the very best players, however you can get them. Next year may very well be a lost season for everyone, come back the following year stocked and ready to go to war.

Agree completely. Get the best players possible and if the transfer doesn’t pass we will get some of the younger guys time and look towards 2021-2022rhodyfan3000 wrote: ↑4 years ago I would say at this point, everything is a gamble.

Re: ‘18 PA SG - Allen Betrand (Towson Transfer)
I think he is going A-10, and I hope it is URI that lands him.
Dayton is the Champ. Richmond might be closer (RI might be equidistant with VA to Philly?). Hopefully Cox has the best connections.

Re: ‘18 PA SG - Allen Betrand (Towson Transfer)
Well, Fatts and Dahmir Bishop were best of friends, and we still lost him to hometown St. Joes.
Whatever it takes I guess. We seem to get great results out of Philly guards, so here's hoping.

He also has a shout-out to Fatts in his IG story. I like our chances with this kid. Would be a huge get.

Sit 1 to play 2, correct?
2021-2022 could be a nice team. Never want to count our chickens but that could be a real nice team!

This would be a great get. I hope they land this guy number one over everyone else we have been recruiting. You have to love his size and three point ability

Did Cox really make that quote to SportsCenter ???

Pretty sure that is one of the recruiting tactics. Similar to the espn magazines that they put together for in house official recruiting visits. When they leave the magazine on the recruits bed in the hotel with the chocolates in an RI formation. But I could be wrong.

I'm hearing Dayton is all in on Elijah Weaver (USC). Is Butler our biggest competition for Betrand?

You can't really think that was a real quote right?
Come on man!
Colleges use photoshopped quotes and magazine covers all the time for these recruits.

I don't know, with how little material SportsCenter is working with right now, it is believable. So thirsty for ANY sports news!

On the Butler message board there are a couple of posts saying Betrand will announce his decision on his birthday, which is this Saturday, May 9th.

I am almost positive there will not be a college basketball season this year anyways.RamStock wrote: ↑4 years agoAgree completely. Re: ‘18 PA SG - Allen Betrand (Towson Transfer)
March 12 2020 cancelled and then there would be no games until November 2021? - that would be about 20 months of no College Basketball. That's a long time.TruePoint wrote: ↑4 years agoI am almost positive there will not be a college basketball season this year anyways.RamStock wrote: ↑4 years agoAgree completely. I'm thinking the NFL will be playing this September.

Re: ‘18 PA SG - Allen Betrand (Towson Transfer)
My understanding of a few points on the season:
If the student population isn’t on campus for the Fall semester there will not be Fall sports.
One academic option being considered is to start the Fall semester in Oct.
If on campus school doesn’t happen until the Spring semester, Fall sports could be played in the Spring.

Re: ‘18 PA SG - Allen Betrand (Towson Transfer)
Dooley in his letter to student and faculty this week heavily hinting they will be back on campus in the fall but leaving the door open if the summer doesn’t go well.
"Every season, college basketball has one or two teams that rise from dormancy to relevancy, squads that make long-awaited charges at the NCAA Tournament and become really fun storylines along the way."

Re: ‘18 PA SG - Allen Betrand (Towson Transfer)
This isn’t good news if Butler is targeting him this hard. We seem unlikely to get him unless he feels that being guaranteed the starting shooting guard position is more important than battling some of the returning players and freshman they have at Butler and getting the chance to play in the Big East

Butler also has a logjam at the position. We don’t.RamStock wrote: ↑4 years agoThis isn’t good news if Butler is targeting him this hard. Re: ‘18 PA SG - Allen Betrand (Towson Transfer)
This kid would be a huge get. He is just what we need.
Doesn't matter if he has to sit out or not.
Question I have, if the season is cancelled, will that count as his [and others] sit out year?
I would assume so, but this is the NCAA we're talking about.
And Fatts and Sheppard would still have a year left to play also.

If next year is cancelled I don't think fatt's is hanging around.
