Re: The 2020 Coaching Carousel
The carousel has slowed down in recent days. Have to think that the COVID-19 virus is having an impact. Most schools are shut down down and getting all the administrators that make decisions on board is probably a bit more difficult. Schools are also likely mindful of the bad PR that a firing during such a crisis might create.

I think Rick would love a trip back to Rhode Island.
I think it would be a good match up. Easy to travel from New Rochelle to Kingston for fans and for the team.
I'd be happy with a Home and Home

FWIW, hearing whispers that BC is going to retain Jim Christian as head coach. Which is a shocker to me.

With Pitino things always start fast....and end bad. That’s what happens when you’ll do anything..absolutely anything to win. Iona doing a new rendition of Faust.

He was likely on his way out but the AD kept him, but said he was keeping him partly because of the virus and it would be more difficult to find someone at this time. I thought it a strange thing to say but then I read a bunch of comments backing up what I was originally thinking. Funny Christian gets to keep his job because of the virus. Strange times we are living in

They landed Mo Bamba a couple years ago , Top 10 kid in the country and still weren’t any good.
I don’t see him lasting more than a year or two.

I think we all can agree if the A-10 reduced the teams in the conference by 2 it would be a good move and one team that everyone would would want out is Fordham. I can’t believe the A-10 hasn’t force them out yet. Make up an attendance mandate or something.

They'll keep him for next season. Been at the bottom this long, might as well wait another year; why rush to stay on the bottom again?

Usually taking the Fordham job means it's a career killer.
Although on rare occasions it's helped a coach when he has had at least some success there.
See Penders, Tom....but it's been a long time

Re: The 2020 Coaching Carousel
Tan-o-Rama Tom left in 1986. Nick Macarchuck followed, they won the MAAC once or twice, then he was hired away to launch Stony Brook's program. Anyone get hired as a head coach after that? Even after doing stints in assistant-coach purgatory.rambone 78 wrote: ↑4 years ago Usually taking the Fordham job means it's a career killer.

Ranking of all college basketball coaches. 351 to 1. This is going to burst some brain cells.

FWIW Cox isn’t in the lower half. I think he is 121 with only two years as a head coach. So 121 isn’t bad given the lack of data.NYGFan_Section208 wrote: ↑4 years ago Just think...we coulda had the 12th best coach in the country instead of a lower half guy...just sayin'....
Nate Oats ranked fairly high. I like him. Also Pikiell at Rutgers. Wasn’t he at Stoney Brook?

Piekell was at Stony Brook also played for UConn and Calhoun. His name was thrown around here when Dan was hired and some went ballistic even though he had moderate success at Stony Brook. He has done a very nice job at Rutgers.

What the heck are you talking about? No, I'm not. My views on the coaching sitch have been consistent...
From the day Hurls left, and continuing to today, I've wanted the same guy....
ETA: My bad on the math. At 129, our hc is in the top 37 percentile...

Targeting transfers seems to be the smart move, imo. Likelihood of them transferring again are slimmer.

Going forward, the quality of the transfers coming in, will largely determine our level of success, more so than the 4 year recruits.....since they aren't likely to stay for very long.
The script has flipped.

It's sad that this will pretty much be the end of the 4 year athlete. If they start here, they're unlikely to finish here and if they finish here, it's unlikely that they started here.rambone 78 wrote: ↑4 years ago Going forward, the quality of the transfers coming in, will largely determine our level of success, more so than the 4 year recruits.....since they aren't likely to stay for very long.

It's the fate of the mid and low majors.
Musselman had it right at Nevada a few years ago.
That's what we have to do.
