If the transfer rule passes, we are better than St. Louis, we are better than Richmond. PERIOD.

That handling of 1,000+ transfers is going to happen either this year or next. If it passes you have last year’s transfers becoming eligible and this year’s immediately eligible. It’s the reason this might get delayed because of the uncertainty of when all those involved in running college athletics will be back in a normal work situation.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
Wow Cox and Co. really lite it up this off season! Huge roster turnover with six new players (seven when/if a 13th player signs or do they keep that one open?) definitely will take some coaching talent to get everyone to gel, but lots of talent to work with especially if the new transfer rule passes and goes into effect for next season.
I'm I correct in saying based upon the ratings when the three transfers initially signed with their respective teams and the current recruiting ratings of our three incoming freshman that in all we got two 4* and four 3* players in one off-season?

I was pretty down on the program a few weeks ago, but now I'm definitely optimistic about a quick turnaround. If the rule passes, we could be really dangerous next year (assuming there's a season).

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
Tough to say that.
Richmond would have their starting 5 back, all seniors, multiple 1000 point scorers, with multiple all league players.
St Louis would have their top SEVEN scorers back, along with multiple all league guys.
We return a Top 30 player in the country / potential A10 POY, and but not much beyond that. Not nearly the type of proven players Richmond and St Louis do.
Those two teams have the chemistry and cohesion from playing together the last couple years. We wouldn’t have that at all.
No chance we’re picked ahead of them in the preseason polls.
We would have to gel VERY quickly to finish above them in the standings.

I have to agree. Even if the rule passes, I have a hard time picking Rhody higher than 3rd knowing what we know about Richmond and SLU. I haven't done enough research to know who's coming back for each school and it's too early to judge now. I'd say Richmond and SLU are 1/2 in some order, then Davidson/VCU/Dayton/Rhody in some order. Then UMass/St. Joe's/GW/GMU/SBU/LaSalle/Duq in some order, then Fordham (perennially last until they either prove commitment or leave the A10).Rhody15 wrote: ↑4 years agoTough to say that.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
I like the players we picked up, but no way can we say we are the team to beat in the A-10. These guys have never played together and for people to say we are the favorite with at least 7 new players in the mix that they have never seen play is blind faith. We could easily be in the top 3 or be in 6th or 7th. Tough to have a feel until we see them play together.steviep123 wrote: ↑4 years agoI have to agree. Losing to a Brown team that is not that bad at all had half the board on the Newport bridge. Not sure board would react to a Bryant loss.DC_Rams wrote: ↑4 years agoUntil we lose to them, and the fire “xyz” chants start.phipsiGD'11 wrote: ↑4 years ago Would love for Bryant to get competitive. I give a lot of credit to the coaches who go through this constant recruiting cycle. As a bystander, I’m absolutely exhausted trying to follow the non-stop barrage of information on potential recruits. I can’t imagine what these guys go through, especially with the rule changes. They earn every penny they make. I’m going to bed now.

So true if we get a player who blows up he will transfer to a P5
We will need to focus on the P5 players who fall out of the rotation

Anyone with some insight on what the focus is with the last 2 scholarships? It's quite a challenge not knowing what the transfer rule is going to be for sure as well as not knowing if Fatts will turn professional. I'd think that trying to retain Toppin could be the best option even if its a total longshot. Are we in on any good junior college transfers? I would love to bring in Odusipe if he is willing to work his way up the ladder in a battle for playing time.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
In today’s environment it’s an advantage to have a spot or two available to take advantage of opportunities
If the transfers are immediately available then teams with open roster spots can be buyers. Those without will sit and watch.
Gone are the days of recruiting for 4 year players. Dinosaur era.
Worst case you have an opening and go to the Mackal Field House. There are players as good as some of the roster filler we have selected in the past. The last 5 guys are not going to play meaningful minutes anyway.
Hold spots open for the opportunities that could likely come along. You can have the “help wanted” sign out instead of the “no vacancy” sign

I feel like one open scholarship is plenty considering how often they keep opening up. I would not want to just punt the upcoming season if the transfer rule is not changed as expected.ramster wrote: ↑4 years ago In today’s environment it’s an advantage to have a spot or two available to take advantage of opportunities

Keep 2, play the transfer route, then make another decision
Decision now isn’t binding for 6 months. Just play the game.
Need 2 if twins come along. But maybe more leave as you suggest. It’s very possible.

Beginning to look like things might be settling down for us until May 20th.
Then we could lose at least one more.
Cox probably knows by now which way Harris is leaning.

I think Evan Cole is a very hard sell here especially with everything up in the air with Jermaine Harris and the transfer ruling. Talented player non the less, would be a solid contributor in any role.

If the transfer a rule does not pass, as of right now we have Harris and Walker in the front court with DJ as back up? Love those guys, but it’s a thin front court. Lots of potential 3-4 guard line ups. Am I missing anyone?
Would be nice the the NCAA made their stupid decision so we know we’re up against.

I'm sure the staff is getting involved with a few that we don't know about yet.
When we add another, especially a grad transfer, the announcement will likely come without notice.
Btw, any LOI's announced yet?
Getting another good big in here could be tough, since I'm sure our competitors for recruits are telling them about the twins wanting to play together.
It's all about the opportunity for playing time. If they don't think it will be there, they won't come.
Cox might be backed into a corner....tough sell.

We have to be looking for a big man right? If we don't land one and the transfer rule doesn't pass what the hell are we going to do?? Everyone said Devele Johnson can't play at this level. Wasn't he known for blocking shots and having a great 3 PT shot? Can he defend at the 4??

Looks like it might be hard to get another big commit this year, but in following years as the current players advance down the chain, it may be easier to get another. If they are more staggered, I mean.
I guess Ousmane would have been staggered because he was an incoming freshman, but the wall in front of him was too much for him.
