Will be interesting to see if Fatts makes first team over Gilyard (Crutcher is a given.)

Re: A-10 All Conference Teams TBA
Will need to find room on the 3 teams for:
Tre Mitchell
Blake Francis
Tre Landers
Ryan Daly - although I’m not a big fan
Nathan Cayo?
Nick Sherod?
Javonte Perkins?
Marcus Weathers?
Kier and Jenkins come off

Re: A-10 All Conference Teams TBA
My guess for All Rookie
Jamison Battle-GW
Bones Hyland-VCU
Hyunjung Lee-Davidson
Tre Mitchell-UMASS
Joel Soriano-Fordham
If a 6th person then Jameer Nelson Jr

After Robinson got shafted on DPOY 2 years ago (and also Garrick from 1st team in 1988), I don't trust whoever votes in these post season awards.

Re: A-10 All Conference Teams TBA
In '88, Silk was first team and Garrick 2nd team in a bad snub. Mark Macon was chosen first team. Garrick responded by torching Rutgers for 50 in the first round, and basically averaged scoring in the mid 20s in the 6 games URI played after it, including, I think 28 vs. Syracuse.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑4 years agoGarrick wasnt first team in 88????steviep123 wrote: ↑4 years ago After Robinson got shafted on DPOY 2 years ago (and also Garrick from 1st team in 1988), I don't trust whoever votes in these post season awards.

Re: A-10 All Conference Teams TBA
It’s not the A10s fault that Fatts has fallen off and his shooting % dropped to below 40%, his scoring drastically dropped, and we shit the bed down the stretch.

URI forfeited all rights to whine about these awards this year with their play down the stretch. I don’t want to hear about anyone getting snubbed.

Re: A-10 All Conference Teams TBA
I would expect a 19 ppg scorer and one of the top leaders in steals in the country on a top 3 team in the conference to be no worse than 2nd team all conference, and likely first. If Fatts for example, is snubbed for someone like Ryan Daly, then yes, it's a snubb. But if the other guards are from top 4 teams, then it isn't as much as a snub. Still, I'd have a hard time believing there are two guards more deserving that Fatts for first team based on the stats.

Just saying I'm sure he wont get first team.
It is true that if he were on most any other team he would still be first team.

I am not sure it is because they hate us. They just don't give a thought about us and could care less about us and our role in the league. We are the far northeast outpost of an increasingly southern based league that's only purpose is for many to enjoy some seafood on occasions they are forced to visit.

Fatts also had 15 games scoring at least 20 points. The kid had a great season.

Re: A-10 All Conference Teams TBA
Fatts was the 2nd best player in the league for much of the conference schedule. 5 or 6 subpar games is not going to bump him down to 3rd team. Look at the entire 18 game schedule and he's a 1st teamer.

Re: A-10 All Conference Teams TBA
Just like the whole triple-double stat is kind of useless (would you rather have a 40 point/15 rebound/9 assist game or 15 point/10 rebound/10 assist game?), I think Cyril averaging a double-double will give him an edge to make the 3rd team even though the averages are 10.1 & 10.3. I would also give Jeff the edge only because he is actually someone I want to have the ball in the last few minutes of a game, where Cyril's sub 50% free throw shooting makes me want the ball far away from him unless there is a put-back tip off the rebound to be had.

I hope Jeff takes this and brings an attitude to Brooklyn similar to what we saw against VCU last year.
I honestly believe Jeff will end up on an NBA roster this time next year.

Killer Jeff is a good Jeff for Rhody in postseason time.
In regards to his NBA prospects, I think his funky mechanics on his jumpshot will be what keeps him from getting far in the NBA.

Re: A-10 All Conference Teams TBA
Bill,
Thanks for sharing your picks prior to the A-10 release
I like how Joel Soriano came on for Fordham the second half of the season. He will be a star in the A-10, I like your pick of Yuri Collins as PG on the Rookie Team
The A-10 released 6 players per team in preseason. I’d expect 6 per team in post season even though I prefer the traditional 5 per team. So you might add another player to your 3 teams, defensive and rookie teams.
I like Jeff Dowtin over Ryan Daly or Kyle Lofton. Dowtin played very tough defense and typically took on the opponents best player. His defense was suffocating especially during URI’s 10 game win streak. Fatts got the steals for sure but I was astounded at the defense from Jeff. It’s one of the parts of Jeff’s game that I think gets unnoticed and why I think Jeff could have a surprise shot at the NBA. Jeff is a superb passer too.
As for Soriano, he did not get in the starting line up until the 7th A10 game
He finished an amazing 5th in A10 in rebounds and 7th in blocked shots despite not starting til game 7
His last 5 games in A10 rebounds/points
Lost (49-57) UMASS (16/14)
Lost (75-76) URI (13/14)
Lost (69-73) @ St Joe (12/11)
Won (63-52) @ GW (15/14)
Lost (61-65) GMU (10/6)
So 66 rebounds and 59 points his last 5 games is 13.3 rpg and 11.8 ppg, a double-double for a freshman
He averaged 8.4 rpg behind only French, Langevine, Goodwin, Santos-Silva
He averaged 1.2 blocks/game behind only Hughes, French, Langevine, Wilson, Osunniyi, Santos-Silva.
Watch this kid if he stays the next 3 years. He lives close to Fordham. Family and friends support nearby. Very exciting player for the future.
Upcoming Games:
Fordham vs George Washington 3:30pm Wednesday. Fordham just won at GW with Soriano 15 rebounds, 14 points. Fordham beat GW twice: (59-54) and (63-52)
Winner plays Duquesne 8:30pm Thursday. Fordham lost to Duquesne (54-59) and (56-58)
Winner plays URI 8:30pm Friday. Fordham lost to URI (75-76)
My surprise A10 pick is Fordham beats GW and Duquesne and then plays URI Friday night. Watch this kid Soriano. And don’t think Fordham can’t beat URI. We snatched victory from defeat once already thanks to Jacob Toppin. Barclays is in Fordham’s backyard. Anything can happen.

Wonder why they make the 3 all conference teams 6 players each
But all academic, defensive and rookie are 5 players each?

A shame Cyril Langevine did not make any team.
Ryan Daly over Cyril Langevine? Not even worthy of a discussion.
Ask the players to vote. Ask them about Langevine.
Disgusting.
