I would bet most people don't realize that the post season history between the two schools over the last four decades was so similar. Many fans without much real knowledge would just assume PC has been far more successful in March given perception. That however is not the reality.
You would have to think if the roles were reversed we would have probably faired better than they have over the last 40 years.
The state university. Bigger school.
Better colors.
Easier for a Rhode Islander to identify with a school with the state name on the jersey.
RI might be the only state where the flagship university isn't the preferred team to root for.
We get great recruits. Imagine how much easier it would have been for us to sustain a high level since we dont have the private school snobby/stuffy religious school aspect.
Regardless we are a better program right now.
Hope to add some more NCAA wins!

Our game down there is going to be very difficult they are moving the ball well and making threes very worried about that game

It’s embarrassing for the Big East to:rjsuperfly66 wrote: ↑4 years agoFor the 9500th time, PC did not beat USC in a play-in game. In 2016, they played a Round of 64 game in Raleigh. They later played, and lost to, the #1 seed UNC in the Round of 32. It wasn't until 2017, one year later, that they played USC in a play-in game.ElmCityRhody wrote: ↑4 years agobigappleram wrote: ↑4 years ago Nice zinger from Donaldson on Twitter about PC having 1 NCAA win in last 23 years. and a "play in" game to boot was their only win
jerky boys: "i'm very proud of ya.."
My reading comprehension isn't exactly the best, but I'm pretty sure one fan complained about playing at Carnasecca, and received some of the following responses:bigappleram wrote: ↑4 years ago Their fans are also complaining that they had to play in a 6k on campus arena last night. "Excuses, excuses. That gym is as easy as it comes and it wasnt even full."
"Its not our home game! Why should SJU care about Friar fans? Comical."
"Typical Friars fan base...complaining that we didnt play in a big enough arena to let our fan base show up to a ROAD GAME. Ugh...the excuses around this program are unbearable. Brings back nightmares of Dayton in Ohio."
"They are what the number 3 tenant at msg assuming their isnt a billy joel concert or something. They can only use it if the Knicks and Rangers are not playing or a big concert is scheduled. Im guessing msg management could give a crap about st. johns. View them as filler for off nights"
"You do realize St. John's is in Queens right? I'm not really getting your beef with their gym. Are you some how trying to blame that on our pathetic performance tonight?"
"Please stop. we lost because we sucked. not because we played in a high school gym. If that gym was such an advantage to them they would play every home game there. If PC decided to play at Alumni our fan base would complain it didnt provide a good enough home court advantage. Its weak sauce."
"Ok. why dont they play every home game there then? get that huge home court advantage. Stop the excuses."
A lot of those were from the same guy, but no one else besides one guy complained about the location. My wife works for a glasses company. I can give you the hook-up.
- Schedule to play a St Johns vs PC game in New York City in mid February in an old on campus 5602 capacity arena when College Basketball should be at its peak for the Big East
- Carnesecca capacity is 5,602 seat capacity But PC vs St Johns only drew 4,083!! That’s only 73% capacity
- 19,812 capacity MSG would be a ghost town if they held this game there. Good move to have it on campus

But even the New Big East.....
Playing on campus and only getting 4000 for St Johns and PC?
URI is going to have close to 8000 for a Sy Joe team winless in A10 and 4-20 overall
You can’t make this up

St John’s is in rebuild mode, PC flopped big time this year. Nobody is shocked by the attendance of PC at St. John’s last night. I’d actually say 4K for two deadass teams isn’t that bad.
URI should draw big given they are on bubble.
What’s your point?

Re: Week #15 - Games of Interest
Davidson crushed the Bonnies with three pointers raining down with them putting in 13 on 52% accuracy and this stat was even more impressive earlier in game. The Wildcats showed good ball movement totally designed to get a man open to take an uncontested three. Also showed good ball control with only 7 turnovers and allowed only one SBU steal. Besides good beyond arc shooting, Davidson controlled the boards 42-25 leading to second chance points and efficient shooting at the rim. What happen to Osunniyi??
To beat these guys, the Rams will have to turn in a stellar defensive effort to thwart the threes, limit them on the glass and disrupt their passing lanes

Indeed.
However, Davidson looks like they've finally gotten a rhythm on offense.
Good thing we have a whole week to get ready for them.

Davidson wins by 29. Didn’t see that coming. Wow. While I thought Davidson could potentially win a close one I didn’t expect a 29 point blowout. They are going to be a problem next week.

You can go back even further to the last 40 years which roughly correlate to PC first joining the Big East (1979-80). Despite all the advantages that league membership gave PC over URI, the two schools have the EXACT SAME number of NCAA Tournament wins at eight. Furthermore, the Friars had just three tournaments where they recorded wins while Rhody did so in five different tournaments.
PC NCAA Wins
1987 4
1997 3
2016 1
URI NCAA Wins
1988 2
1993 1
1998 3
2017 1
2018 1
i would happily trade a few of our 1 win years for their trip to the final 4.

The Brown win over Penn improved their NET rating by 23 spots to #203. In contrast, Saint Joseph's NET is at #237 and Fordham is lodged at #276. Both now represent potential losses worse than the earlier one to Brown.

I don't say this often but that officiating down the stretch at UMass-Dayton is some of the most atrocious I've seen. Refs blatantly kept UMass in it. AG and players just shaking their heads and laughing in disbelief towards the end. Can't blame them.
