Yinka and Shawnta weren’t on the same GW teams, Yinka played till ‘93 and Shawnta came after him. We beat Shawnta in the A10 semis and Lamar hit ‘the shot’ the next game in ‘99bigappleram wrote: ↑4 years ago Google his son, forget his name but he’s 5’3 and playing low major D1 somewhere. Shawnta's son is Darnell Rogers. He plays for University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC).wpbrown8267 wrote: ↑4 years agoYinka and Shawnta weren’t on the same GW teams, Yinka played till ‘93 and Shawnta came after him. He is listed as 5'2" but I think is is 5'0" or less. I saw him play in EYBL AAU Ball and believe me he is very small. Dribbles the ball well, but amazingly low dribble to the ground, even low to the ground for a 5'0" player. He has been injured.

Re: 2/8 | George Washington | 12:00PM (CBSSN)
This GW fan and moderator of the board wrote what I think is a really thoughtful in depth analysis of the Rhody Rams strengths as well as weaknesses of the team - and each player, no less, in this post: https://gwhoops.boardhost.com/viewtopic ... 4107#p4107
He describes each challenge GW will need to overcome just to make it a close game. He REALLY seems to have done his homework on the Rams!
He finishes by saying," If URI is putting up points, I don't see how we keep up with them unless we are on our game from distance like the Davidson game. It does help that we have won three in a row at home, but it will be very tough to make it four in a row. UMass played them tough on the road, only losing by 6 (though the margin was probably closer to 10 all game), and since I'd consider we are probably on their level right now, I'm definitely not hoping we see another blowout. A single digit loss should be the minimum goal."

That is a really well put together post, I'd bet some fans couldn't put that together for their own team never mind an opponent

Re: 2/8 | George Washington | 12:00PM (CBSSN)
Shawnta "The Peanut" Rogers. I remember his final season well, when Penders was coach of GW.
His final season stats: "1998-99: 20.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 6.8 apg, 3.6 spg"
He was basically dominant. When we played him, his ppg was much closer to 24. The key to stopping GW that year was to stop the second highest scorer on the team, and try to make Rogers beat you all by himself.
All you need to know about the Peanut, was that he was listed at 5'4. And that's with some Hollywood height thrown in, I'm sure, and he dunked the ball that season.

Re: 2/8 | George Washington | 12:00PM (CBSSN)
Yeah, at the time, Mike King, was the second leading scorer at near 17 ppg himself. So, our best defender was T-Bell, Tavorris Bell. People were saying we should put our best defender on Shawnta Rogers.
But, no one was going to stop Shawnta Rogers except Rogers. So, the idea was put T-Bell on Mike King, stop King, eliminate a good chunk of points they were relying on to win.

I was there, in Philly. We watched the semi game the night before at Casey's and myself and three URI buddies said we'll drive down tomorrow if we win. Great road trip.wpbrown8267 wrote: ↑4 years agoYinka and Shawnta weren’t on the same GW teams, Yinka played till ‘93 and Shawnta came after him. Great write up. I bet that is the guy who calls their games. I remember our last game at their place and the announcer on the stream really knew his stuff but his play calling was repetitive and boring.RhodysRelevant wrote: ↑4 years ago That is a really well put together post, I'd bet some fans couldn't put that together for their own team never mind an opponent
Keeping things in perspective...
Hurley (12-18):
Y1 8-21 (T14th), Y2 14-18 (10th), Y3 23-10 (T2nd, NIT), Y4 17-15 (7th), Y5 25-10 (T3rd, NCAA), Y6 26-8 (1st, NCAA).
Miller (22-?):
Y1 9-22 (14th), Y2 12-20 (T10th).

Re: 2/8 | George Washington | 12:00PM (CBSSN)
Steve MacDonald just said on the pre-game show that their flight yesterday afternoon was cancelled due to high winds so they tried to leave later from Boston and then THAT flight was cancelled and so last night they were able to leave from Hartord and didnt get to D.C until late. Then they had to get a practice in before hitting the hay.
Sounds like a terrible travel day. I hope they are rested and raring to go now....

I’m glad you said that. I saw nothing Harris did wrong in setting that screen, both live and on the replay.

Defense has been subpar so far, too many times it looks like someone is getting caught out of position.
