Oh my, this is...not good. 17-27 this half. Has to start with defense, offense has had good looks but nothing falling this half.

Hate to say it, but Walker was the catalyst to this slide. Came out very lax and was shrugging his shoulders after each miscue.

They need to regroup because VCU has this down to 12 and they want it.

1 FG in 8 minutes. This was telegraphed about 90 seconds into this 8 minute stretch, you could just tell. It was the same look as earlier this week against George Mason when they didn’t step on their throats - just wasted possessions. Need to reengage here.

I believe the plays they have been running recently are known as Baronball (TM). A signature of those teams where they were just playing TOO well on a record basis as well as during individual games. "You know what, it's time to give the other defense possessions off, just dribble in place before forcing a shot with no time on the shot clock, preferably with only one or two passes the whole possession."

Honestly it really is hard to play from up 30 with 15 minutes left. It’s good when the other team lays down, which happens a lot, but as silly as it may sound it is hard. Hold on here and it’s a learning experience.

Easy to say from your couch

ETA: I hate to make excuses because I do agree that this should not have happened. But it’s not the most surprising thing I’ve ever seen. It is human nature to get comfortable and lose some intensity and focus in that situation. You have to learn how to not do that. I don’t think it was “running clock” but more just not treasuring possessions.

Just the law of averages say you won't shoot like 75% from 3-point range for the entire game like they were in the first half. The only way Rhody was going to keep that huge a lead was from great defense, and to be honest VCU missed a lot of makeable shots in the first half so they were bound to have shots start falling.

I would have been happy with a 1 pt win. I really don't care about the margin of victory. But the way this played out, there is still plenty to work on, so that's a win win in my book

BIG BIG WIN! The second half was weird, but certainly nothing to be concerned about. Total domination for about 28 minutes or so. We absolutely own these guys and I am loving every second of it! 30 for Fatts!

Agree. This team showed its potential in the first 25 minutes, its relative inexperience in the next 10, and its character in the last 5. You can say that Jeff, Fatts and Cyril have experience, and they do, but there are a bunch of guys that don’t and it’s been a while for even those three being in this situation. We will learn from the lapse and it didn’t cost us much. I’ll take the potential and the character and deal with the inexperience.

I think so. A lot of things in common with Cox as with Belichick. No complaints here.

A sign of Fatts' dominance of this game: 6-15 FG but still finished with 30 points. Just LIVED at the FT line and setting up others as well.

I was leaving the Waste Management Open as the game started and was only able to catch as much as I could via my phone, but from what I could tell, we jumped them from the start and could not be caught. Beating a VCU team that shot 56% from the field is as impressive a conference win as I can think of for a long time.
