Makes sense for both parties as a one-year thing - He's an experienced guy on the bench for Howard to consult with, and he gets a nice check for a year. Then, he can look for a head coaching position for 2020-21.

I think he could probably be good at it, If he really wants to do it, ego and all. I hope he succeeds.
If he and Michigan did well together, he could probably easily slide into another pretty decent HC gig the following year?

I'll have to alert all my in-laws (they're all Michigan alums) that Young Frankenstein will be on their sidelines next season.

Agree. It’s a win for Howard and a win for Martelli. Will be interesting to watch play out. I’m rooting for Martelli.

Holy Cross Coach Bill Carmody unexpectedly announced his retirement today. His wife had been battling cancer which made him miss many away games this past season. The school also just hired a new AD a four weeks ago.

I like these “My First Year” pieces from the Athletic. It would be nice to see one featuring Cox.

Based on his contract that I posted above, he likely made, with met incentives, in the low $700k range last season.

Bumping this from an ESPN front page story about 40 of the 50 states have a football or basketball coach making the top salary. Including David Cox in RI, whom they show at $700k. What surprised me is how much the UMass Chancellor makes, as he is the top earner in MA (not a coach). $1.1 million! I looked up Dooley's salary but just found a number of $320k from 2015.

Sad end to such a promising career for Preston. Head coaches with winning records are often forgiven, but not assistants.

Actually that makes some sense then, supply and demand vs what he could make in private practice.

Not sure this is the proper place to put this but ADR is currently earning $257K at Clemson.Tough to compete with. I thought of ADR while watching the UVA Clemson game and saw him on the Clemson bench. It’s nice that he got to go home and earn two or three times his salary at URI.

That was why Hurley made a point to increase our assistants pool.

If we dance this year, that better be first in a long line of things we offer in Dave’s extension.
