Re: Rhody Decade Best Moment
Definitely not making the NIT semis. No one cares about the NIT. I would say the back to back NCAA tournaments. Maybe the game against Oklahoma in the tourneysection(105) wrote: ↑4 years ago .....What is yours?......making the NIT semis?.......lots of changes over the last ten years......lots of ups and downs.....

Hands down it’s beating VCU in the A10 title game to go back to the NCAAs for first time in almost 20 years.

Re: Rhody Decade Best Moment
I kind of separate best "moment" i.e. one spot from one game moment. For "event" I agree with BAR above. For moment, I would say either the Terrell 3-pointer from the logo or the Fatts steal and 3-pointer in Trae Young's face during the OK game. Those were emblematic of how exhilarating Rhody basketball can be and what we lacked earlier in the decade. I suppose you could pick from a regular season buzzer-beater, but the magnitude of the NCAA Tourney stage puts these on top for me.

I agree with BAR about the '17 A10 Championship game. That was a special moment. Although news that CFL was let go was a pretty good moment.

Hearing Reggie Miller say.. “oh don’t do it to him like that Fatts!” after Fatts took Trae Young’s cookies and then dropped a 3 on him to extend the lead.

Re: Rhody Decade Best Moment
I’ve only been around for 80% of the decade, but I feel like I didn’t miss much in those first couple years.
Winning the A10 tournament-
The win against Creighton is a close second. But, that picture of Jarvis and Jared is forever perfect. I saw Jarvis’s twins on Sunday- they really are the cutest little kids. There are moments from games that I love- EC’s dunk against Davidson, for example, but getting back to the tournament meant so much to a lot of people here, so it’s definitely my favorite.

Best Basketball Program Moment
- Hiring of Dan Hurley
- Very much needed at URI to bring in a HC of his caliber, pedigree and potential
Best Game Moment
- Beating #21 Ranked Nebraska in OT for URIs 1st win over a Top 25 Opponent since December 21, 1998
- Ended a long dormant period of URI Basketball from Jim Harrick to Dan Hurley

For the OMG factor of the play itself, combined with the stakes, Stan’s coming out of nowhere to block that Davidson breakaway layup does it for me. We were about to lose that game and, most likely, our season but for Stan.
And, of course, our beatdown of the mental hospital this month.

Re: Rhody Decade Best Moment
I know I posted one already but another of my favorite in game moments this decade was the last regular season game in 2017 vs Davidson. Game went to OT and with about a minute left EC drove the lane, rose up and dunked it home. The Ryan Center roof nearly blew off and Rhody held on to win. I remember saying at the time I wasn’t sure if EC could still do that as he had returned from injury that year and I had not seen him attack the rim like that!

Re: Rhody Decade Best Moment
We are missing so many highlights!
The Nebraska game with JT's shot.
EC's three against Cinici.
How about the first time we beat VCU with Hurley? Where Jarvis hit 10-10 on free throws to ice that tough win in the beginning of that winning streak that saved the program.
That was a HUGE win. I dont think any of us thought we could pull that out and we did and from that moment on we couldn't be stopped. I have never seen highlights of that ever.
Then there's the Davidson OT game. No highlights of that.

I can still hear the sound that was made when he slammed that ball through the hoop. As the clock winds down in the NIT season tip off vs #20 Seton Hall ... with 5 seconds left Terrell drives to the hoop and kisses it off the glass with his right hand for the lead and the win! https://es.pn/2iLaRy8

If we had WON the NIT maybe it would have been a candidate.
We blew the semis to NC by going 2-6 from the line the last 2 minutes.
We owned Dayton at the time who we would have played in the final. We never got the chance.

Re: Rhody Decade Best Moment
For individual in game moments, I have the aforementioned passing clinic against Richmond:
As well as the EC Matthews 3 followed by the "Don't do it to him like that Fatts" steal and 3 against Oklahoma in the 2018 NCAA tourney
Also, Terrell's game winner vs. Seton Hall is up there.
But winning the A10 Tourney in 2017 to get to the tourney for the first time in 19 years was the biggest for me. Seeing Terrell and Garrett embrace (as posted by ace earlier) really encapsulates it the culmination of Hurley's rebuild over the previous several years.

Classic. Loved every minute of Fatts eating Trae Youngs lunch. He owned him that game.

This is it for me. The 2017 NCAA return -- and it created momentum that carried into the following year.
Winning a regular season title was likely a greater achievement. But the A10 tournament ended once and for all any URI frustrations that had built up over 18 years.
