Fatts is going to be a transcendent player in URI history...similar to Hassan in recent history with going beyond numbers to bring the "grit n balls" as KG would say.

Well - what can you say. The future looks bright - both this year, next year and beyond.
There’s no bigger moment or atmosphere these kids will play in short of a game in March.
Fatts is THE guy. He is going to be the cornerstone of some fun March basketball.
Cyril is a beast. Holy hell.
Mekhi and Toppin. OMG.
The defense looked like exactly what Cox recruits for: long guys who can disrupt passing lanes, block shots, and force transition play.
Masterpiece all around. Freshmen made freshmen mistakes but man oh man for a short bench these guys did a phenomenal job.
F*%K PC.

Great game. Cyril, effectively (for the most part) putting the ball on the floor and at least two GREAT bounce pass assists for easy layups...
Toppin, may be inexperienced, but fearless...loved it. Good times.

Re: 12/6 | Providence | 7:00PM (ESPN2)
haven't read thread but here are my thoughts:
Fatts the team MVP by a mile. Another superb effort.
Cyril was a beast. I was wrong in other threads we need to replace him for next year.
Jeff played very well in second half. That is who we need for A10 schedule.
Anyone doubting Mehki Long now? That kid can play.

The block at the rim that Toppin had in the first half was one of the best I have seen. He was like two feet above the rim, arms straight up. Kid can jump out of the gym. What a game, so glad we got to attend!
Mobley was fouled.

Awesome win and crowd! Hopefully get Tate back soon and Walker will be a big addition. Take care of business the next 3 games and we will be in decent shape. This team has IT just need to win some tough ones in conference.

Re: 12/6 | Providence | 7:00PM (ESPN2)
After PC cut the lead to 2 at 57-55, URI outscored them 18-6. Now that's a game closing run and something that they consistently did during Hurley's last two seasons. If Cox' teams can keep doing that, they'll be in the conversation every year! Fatts was ridiculous again and plenty of great steals and D all around.

Btw, this stat is insane. Fatts Russell has scored 20 or more in 7 straight games. In addition, he's had 18 or more in all games except only 5 at Maryland:
that 22 is before his 2 FTs made it 24.
that 22 is before his 2 FTs made it 24.

The craziest part about Fatts tonight is that he really struggled scoring in the first 10 minutes or so. But man it doesn't take much once he gets going he just puts up points in a hurry.

Re: 12/6 | Providence | 7:00PM (ESPN2)
Fatts' turnaround from last season really is pretty incredible. I'm guessing there was no other player in college basketball who led their team in shot attempts and shot as poorly as Fatts did. Then to come back this season and play the way he has is unreal.
Outstanding game from Long especially for not having played many important minutes. Toppin played well too, although had some bad forced shots in the first half but seemed to not force anything in the second half.
I was at the game so I'm not sure if I missed something but what happened with Tate? Was he injured or is the assumption Cox just decided not to play him?
Edit: Just saw the Tate thread.

The Frogman...very visible - easily from all the way at the other end where we are - and lots of big board time tonight at the arena. Kudos, well played.
Watson was a load. Not sure why he didn't get it more. Even when he wasn't right at the hoop, he had that line drive stroke going, too.
Pipkens came into the game late and, no kidding, I had to ask the guy next to me, "oh yeah, that's right, they have Pipkens, has he even played yet?" And the guy said, yeah he started. So, that's the impression he left on me...(I mean, I thought I was paying attention...)

......it seems he picks up lots of fouls setting screens, moving into position to set screens, wonder how that, if true, is being tracked by staff and corrective actions being taught......?

I am glad there is a two week break so Fatts can rest whatever pain he feels tomorrow.
Thank you to the half dozen people who invaded my place to watch the Pac-12 football championship who ended up being introduced to the best rivalry in college basketball (apologies to Duke/NC fans). After seeing me tonight, there are now a few more people on left side of the country who understand why my passion for Rhody hoops supersedes all others.

Toppin and Long are the players of the game to me.
We know our big 3 can do what they do.
But those guys stepped up.
Helped take us to another level.
Long has made me eat my words.
Toppin. All the talent in the world and plays his face off.
These are happy times right after our backs were against the wall.

This is fact especially Long playing Dana's minutes. We need dana back with a good head but what long showed tonight is that he can be a contributor all year. Which we need with a short bench

Re: 12/6 | Providence | 7:00PM (ESPN2)
Fatts and Cyril were awesome. Great supporting efforts by Long, Toppin and Martin early when we needed it. There are going to be big games where we will need the Dowtin of the past to be the hero-think he will get going at some point. Also we will need Tate and Harris to contribute as it had looked as if both were ready to make a jump coming into this year. Great win and all around effort on creating turnovers. Give Cox credit for sticking by Fatts, I know most of us including me were really down on him last year. Playing with great confidence.
On the PC side, their fans have to be sick by the effort they give on loose balls and the lackluster attitude on passes. They have no life to them and have the look of a 14-17 team that is ready to put away the basketball for the year rather than one in early December.
Get the rest of the non conference games especially the next one which will be real tough and we are in decent shape besides the fact that we don’t have any quality wins.
