Bunky semiretiring
Well, he’s been mailing it in for years. Now it’s official:
He’ll only do his FWIW Saturday column.

This explains a lot.
Bunky wrote:And even though I had freelanced for The Journal’s Sunday magazine for eight or nine years, along with some other freelance gigs, I had never worked on a newspaper before, nor had I ever taken a journalism course in college or written a hard-news story.
In fact, the only journalism course I ever took was at the URI Extension School in downtown Providence about 1980 or so, lured there by my younger sister Polly.

.......will he be missed??........yeah maybe a little......I have to say, regarding hoops, I did like his commentary on how the game has evolved over time......and perhaps add Barrington to the repetitive list......

Start your Bill Reynolds column with a sentence.
Start your Bill Reynolds column with a sentence. Then write another.

Not only have you started your Bill Reynolds column. You're almost halfway done.

And, if you actually talk to someone, use quotes that reflect the hard-hitting questions you ask, like, "how's it goin'?"

Camera.
Action.
Vinny Paz is still around. Does he sit at the bar at Twin Oaks with a martini and garlic bread? Probably so, Bunky.

Tough crowd. Doesn’t sound like there will be many KB’ers at his retirement event
PC Fans with some similar comments but overall more appreciative of the guy
I liked Reynolds. He came up through RI HS Basketball, played at Brown. I’ll miss his writing and glad he is continuing his Saturday column. I like his opinions on movies and books - often have bought books based on his recommendations in his Saturday column.
Doubt he gets replaced for his weekly work.
Newspaper industry continues to cut back with steadily declining circulation.

His articles during the week had decreased in frequency over the last few years.
I enjoy the Saturday column the most anyway so glad he is continuing it - even though it sounds like I might be the only one here that likes Bill Reynolds.

"Raise your hand if you ever thought you’d see Lamar Odom on “Dancing With The Stars.”
Todays paper got both a "raise your hand" and Lamar Odom reference in same sentence.
Wasn't he harping on the Kardashians for a while?

Re: Bunky semiretiring
I’ve always liked Bunky, but like many people as they age, he’s lost a few miles off his fastball. I laughed when I read his Independent Man reference in today’s column, since it was included earlier in this thread. That’s probably one of his top three repeated references and if he ever asked me for any specific column advice, I would tell him to lose that one.

Now we'll never know what players come from the "mean streets."
I think his best post in this column was several years ago when he said not to spend too much time reading this, because he didn't spend too much time writing this.

Rhody74,no need to apologize.
Bunky used to be at very least a good writer. Good features on players and coaches.
There is a huge sports world with RI people in it.
He never scratched the surface on it at the end. Every one says he is a great guy also.
The FWIW column and mini columns got ridiculous over the last decade.

Just finished reading today’s For What It’s Worth column. As I got towards the end, I was worried that there would be no Independent Man reference this week. He snuck it in just under the wire, in the last bullet. He indicated that the Independent Man is looking for a pair of tickets to Friday night’s game.
Good job Bunky!
