Re: Week #2- Games of Interest
I wonder how many articles UConn’s beat writers will write about their fair weather fan base and how that’s not how to build a winning program...?

Typical VCU team, suffocating defense and scrappy offense that lives at the free throw line.

Suffocating defense that allowed 84 points? I beg to differ.
I wanted both teams to lose.

They forced 26 turnovers to the #23 team in the country, not too shabby.

Danny has to be happy losing to Joes in an empty home court. You wanted it, you got it. Boneyard should be lively tonight.

96-87 St. joes. Brendan Adams fouls out with 3 points. I often wonder if we dodged a bullet with him going to UConn with Hurley. His Mommy Dearest would have been a bit much.

I also thought it was a funny situation. Losing to joes in a middle of the week game with less than 50% attendance. I thought that was what he didn’t like!
Wish that was a better win for the league. The VCU win was a good one tonight.

UConn, behind the entire game, falls to St. Joe's, 96-87 despite UConn having a 10 pt edge at the FT line and great 3 point shooting, 14-29, 48+%. What happened to Hurley's vaunted defense intensity??

They could use a new mascot, too. All I saw was the husky sitting behind the bench. Looked like a cheerleader for a funeral.

Nichols defeats someone named Paul Quinn 81-66 .... don’t know what to make of that. They shot about 41% from the field and about 27% from three.

Re: Week #2- Games of Interest
Paul Quinn is a black school affiliated with the Methodist Church and is located In Dallas. School has less than 1000 students their athletics compete in the NAIA. Obviously Nicholls had difficulty in putting a schedule together otherwise they would not have played in regular season such a lower level opponent.
More important is Nicholls' next opponent which is LSU followed by their game against URI. They have played two road contest of worth - taking Illinois to OT before losing and beating Pitt.

That hot bed of college basketball, Storrs, CT, had a huge crowd of 4,081 tonight.

Hard to imagine a better night than one in which the mental hospital and the Storrs Leg-humpers both lost to what their fans would describe as lower-quality opponents.
Proudly supplying the Internet with online wisecracks, impertinent comments and loathing of all things mental hospital since 1996.

Re: Week #2- Games of Interest
I enjoyed the PC loss as well Red.
10 point favorites and they lost to Northwestern who got beat by 1st year D1 Merrimack.
Pipkins was coming home to Chicago for this game but was a bad 3-15 shooting
Night with many shots clanging off the front of the rim
Young and Reeves both started and went scoreless with 15 minutes of play. Cooley benched Reeves 2nd half because his defense was so bad
Gannt, the freshman big looked good and should have played more. Duke played well also. White good off the bench
Cooley went to the full court press too late, should have pressed sooner to wake his guys up.
Northwestern 1-3-1 zone hurt the Fryuzzz offense.

Re: Week #2- Games of Interest
People talk about attendance, or lack thereof, a lot, but I think we too often glorify some of our A10 opponents like people should be lining up to watch St. Joseph's. The reality is if we played Villanova, Georgetown, St. Johns, annually we'd see a lot of full houses. St. Joseph's just doesn't excite anyone.
I also think Hurley is getting a little bit of a pass with his "lack of talent" or "not his players". The reality is St. Joseph's roster has no where near the talent of UConn and Hurley recruited the vast majority of that roster...they just picked UConn over URI.
I have no doubt Hurley will turn it around, but stop pretending Christian Vital, Alterique GIlbert, etc. shouldn't blow the doors of St. Joes.

Re: Week #2- Games of Interest
The VCU win over LSU was big on many levels. VCU, even with two wins in week 1, had just fallen out of the top 25. LSU was ranked #23. The coach of the tigers is none other than Will Wade whose very short stint at VCU left its fans with a bad taste. The H&H series only came about because VCU has had a clause in the contracts of its head coaches that they have to consent to a series if they leave. That is why Oklahoma, Texas, and now LSU have played at VCU.
VCU fans were very revved up for this game and made a big deal of Wade's legal issues with the NCAA in Baton Rouge. The crowd really trolled him with numerous signs. The funniest bit was the group sitting at court side wearing sunglasses and matching jackets with FBI caps.

Ryan Daly has 30 points, 8 rebounds and (6-12) on 3Ps. Daly was (0-11) on 3Ps in the first 2 gamesLoveThoseRams wrote: ↑4 years ago 96-87 St. joes. Brendan Adams fouls out with 3 points. Daly sat out last season after transferring from U of Delaware having played 2 years there. Daly is scored and rebounded well so far.

Re: Week #2- Games of Interest
Maybe Joes. Their best players last night were all new - two transfers and a freshman, and as someone pointed out elsewhere in this thread, they’re playing an unorthodox style. So maybe their new guys will make them better than we expected, or maybe by the time we get to the league part of the schedule teams will have figured them out.section(105) wrote: ↑4 years ago .......hhhhuuummm...are U Mass and Joe’s gonna be better than previously thought?
UMass I’m pretty sure is terrible. They’ve played pretty lousy teams so far but if they’re going to play a bad schedule at least they are winning which is good for the league. That roster is bad. Tre Mitchell is going to be a legit guy but not sure I see many other A10 players there right now.

Only 5,204 at Northwestern for the PC game. Lot of excitement for the Gavitt Games Big 10 - Big East matchups

Haha Richmond guy bricked a dunk (?) at the buzzer to win it for Richmond. Going to 2OT. That guy is going to be sick if they lose this game.
