I doubt the A10 goes 10-0.
As long as we're not one of the losers.
A10 really needs to perform OOC.

The A10 is 7-2 thus far tonight.
Bonnies and GW go down. GM survives in OT.
One left....if Fordham does what Fordham does, my prediction will be spot on.

Nothing good comes from this. Takes a lot of the excitement out of next Friday. It also probably has them more focused. Oats is a very good coach

Bama is still going to be a very tough out. Because they lost to Penn means very little right now.

A-10 was 8-2 on the night - losses were GW (no surprise) and Bonnies (somewhat surprising).

Too early to know if Penn’s win says more about Penn or more about Alabama. I seem to recall reading about two Alabama injuries a few weeks ago and they did have some roster turnover to go along with the coaching change. Still, I expect a good challenge on the 15th.

Re: Week #1 - Games of Interest
The nine A-10 home openers drew these crowds.
VCU 7,367
Saint Louis 6,321
George Mason 5,620
St. Bonaventure 4,305
URI 4,258
Fordham 3,200
UMass 2,563
Duquesne 2,213
St. Joseph's 2,068
The URI crowd was not only disappointing, it was the fourth smallest home opener in the 18 year history of the Ryan Center. Not great for a school that wants to be consistently in the upper echelon of the conference. The buzz around this team, maybe this coach, doesn't appear to be evident right now.

Re: Week #1 - Games of Interest
There are no A-10 games on Tuesday nor any games involving URI OOC opponents.
Ten A-10 schools opened last night and here is a look at the situation with the remaining four conference teams.
Davidson opens on Friday versus Auburn in the Veterans Classic in Annapolis.
Richmond holds its home opener versus St. Francis (PA) on Friday.
Dayton faces Indiana State in its home opener on Saturday.
La Salle opens its season at home versus Iona on Saturday.

Can we add anytime Georgetown is playing. Their opponent any night is my other favorite team.
Tonight Mount St Marys (on CBS Sports at 7:00). Georgetown is losing 18-14.

I was thinking the same thing...there is very little buzz for this team. I noticed that we were left out a a couple of ESPN.com articles that in the Hurley era we would have been in...one of them was about what to expect from second year coaches and it featured Dan and it also featured the The Xavier coach that left (Mack) and the one who replaced him at X (Steele). https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... stagnatingObadiah wrote: ↑4 years ago The nine A-10 home openers drew these crowds.

We also do very little marketing beyond digital/social ticket promos. Been saying this since forever, many missed opportunities to win over hearts and minds of casual fans, alumni, etc. Build the brand, etc. Agree 4,200 for a team that should have some buzz and excitement around it is disappointing.Obadiah wrote: ↑4 years ago The nine A-10 home openers drew these crowds.

Re: Week #1 - Games of Interest
In a closely contested game this evening, Hofstra lost its home opener to San Jose State, 79-71. Former URI player, Omar Silverio, saw limited action - 5 minutes - didn't take a shot and had two assists. Silverio was able to play immediately for Hofstra since he was granted a waiver of the one year residency rule in early August.
The press release on the waiver:
"Hofstra University sophomore men's basketball student-athlete Omar Silverio has been granted immediate eligibility after applying to have his required transfer year of residency waived by the NCAA. The waiver was submitted to the NCAA Division I Committee for Legislative Relief. "We appreciate the NCAA's understanding of Omar's case and are thankful to both the NCAA and Rhode Island for their support of this waiver," commented Hofstra Head Men's Basketball Coach Joe Mihalich".
Too bad Georgetown wasn't as gracious.

Saw that Christion Thompson had ten points and a whopping 14 rebounds for Tulane .... a double double machine. How come we can’t get players like that?

What was our record last year? What kind of record was 18-15? Mediocre records draw mediocre crowds -- especially against no-name opponents.bigappleram wrote: ↑4 years agoWe also do very little marketing beyond digital/social ticket promos. They sold more season tickets and more 5 game plans this year than last year.

Re: Week #1 - Games of Interest
The crowd on opening night was disappointing but there were some clear issues that negatively impacted the crowd. The weather sucked (and yes people decide not to go out if it is raining and crappy out), the opponent had almost no name recognition, the game was on TV, and PC and the Celtics were both playing at the same time. I work outside of Boston, but am able to work at home whenever I want which is much closer to Kingston and I had no interest in trying to make it down to that game due to the weather, and I wanted to watch the Celtics as well who I find quite entertaining to watch this year and a breath of fresh air compared to last years team. I will be down to like 10 games this year, but Tuesday was not one of them. I am sure there are others in the same boat. I expect a big crowd next Friday night. If it is not, then let the griping begin.

Re: Week #1 - Games of Interest
Same weather
Same night
Same PC Game was on TV
Same Celtics Game was on TV
Sacred Heart the PC Opponent picked #2 in the NEC - URI Opponent LIU was picked #1 in the NEC
PC Attendance = 8,103
URI Attendance = 4,258
PC wins 106-60 vs #2 Preseason NEC Team
URI wins 76-65 vs #1 Preseason NEC Team with their best player (and projected NEC League best player) sitting out a 1-game suspension
Winning and how big you win (or lose) impacts attendance. Winning and National Ranking are huge draws for attendance - as the Hurley era demonstrated.

URI womens team outscored the mens this week. We need BUCKETS. The PC game was aired live while URI was replayed after. The 8K for PC is actually quite low seeing that a sellout in near 13K? URI needs momentum for sure because it felt like a dud in week 1.

It was still double our attendance
We get bad attendance and we feel the need to justify why is was bad. Attendance simply is what it is.
It’s surprising to me that 4,258 feels ok to any URI fan.
All good seats in the Ryan Center
In the Dunk those seats above 8,103 are bad. The Dunk was built for Basketball and Hockey. Might as well bring binoculars if your seats are in the end zones or upper levels.
