Reef,
You could say that for any of the Top 6, no?
If any of these Top 6 lose they could miss the playoff, not just Clemson. The total votes are very close between them.
Big game upcoming will be #2 LSU at #1 Alabama on Nov 9
Also big game is #6 Penn State at #3 Ohio State Nov 23
Even the 1st place votes are unusually close with no clear cut, unanimous #1 team. Alabama with 24, LSU with 16, Ohio State with 13 and Clemson with 9
AP
1 Alabama (24) (7-0)
2 LSU (16) (7-0)
3 Ohio State (13) (7-0)
4 Clemson (9) (7-0)
5 Oklahoma (7-0)
6 Penn State (7-0)
Coaches
1 Alabama (44)

3 LSU (3)
4 Ohio State (8)
5 Oklahoma
6 Penn State

Re: College Football
no the SEC teams get a pass on a loss due to strength of conference. Clemson could get in with a loss depending on circumstances. Name recognition still counts like it or not.
what we really need is an 8 team playoff: the 5 conference champs, best champion of the rest, and two at large; which has been discussed here in the past.

Sure, if everyone remains undefeated, that is probably true.
However, I think if you have 2 1-loss teams for the last spot, and 1 of them is LSU with a loss at #1 Alabama, and the other is Clemson, I think that spot deserves to go to LSU 100 out of 100 times.

Re: College Football
I think it's setting up for:
1) SEC winner - Alabama/LSU/Georgia/Florida wins SEC even with 1 loss
2) Clemson - Goes undefeated and wins ACC
2) Big Ten winner - 1-loss Ohio St/Penn St or undefeated Minnesota (their schedule is about to get tough though)
4) Alabama/LSU loser (if winner wins SEC Championship) otherwise Alabama/LSU winner (if winner loses in SEC Championship) *Assumes both 1-loss
------------------------------------------------------------
5) Ohio St./Penn St loser if win out and #4 does not play out
6) Clemson loses game but wins ACC Championship and there is not a one-loss Alabama/LSU/Ohio St./Penn St non-conference winner in their way
7) Pac-12 winner - if team wins out, and big mess happens in front of them

So long Willie Taggart...we hardly knew ya...
https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... ie-taggart
FSU raised about $20 million in private donations to buy out what was left of Taggart's contract, sources told ESPN's Mark Schlabach. However, an FSU official denied that the money was raised for Taggart's buyout.
I don't know if they raised $20M to can him or not...but if they did, many would not be surprised. That's a whole 'nother level of footballin' right there fer sure....

I believe that the money was raised privately. Anyways, Miami is a private school so if it came out of the state university system it wouldn’t impact them.
I think Taggert got what he deserves. Somewhat poetic that is departure is as weird and dumb as his arrival.

I mentioned Miami 'cuz my friend's a FL resident (taxpayer) and a 'canes fan (the olive on top of the sundae). He's less than psyched at the idea of funding the FSU coach buyout with his tax $$. You'd think it would have to be booster cash to happen that quickly, so I agree it was likely private. And totally...his departure is every bit as dumb as his arrival. Not sure that's all that's behind their suckitry this year...maybe FLA HS foo'ball ain't what it used to be?

Clemson fans are pissed that their team was left out of the top 4 last night.....doesn't matter at this point anyway....
As long as they don't lose, they will be there, since Ohio St. will probably knock Penn St. out when they play in a couple weeks.
I think Ohio St. is the likely national champ. No weaknesses.

Re: College Football
College football playoff picture just isn't really that exciting until the end of the season.
Let's be honest, it's shaping up like this (not seeded in order)...
1) SEC Winner - LSU, Alabama, or Georgia
2) Big Ten Winner - Ohio St., Penn St., or undefeated Minnesota
3) Undefeated Clemson
4) LSU/Alabama 1-loss loser if winner wins SEC; LSU/Alabama winner if loser of SEC Championship
5) Penn St/Ohio St loser if 1-loss and winner is B1G Champion
There could be other variables down the line, but I think that is most likely.

Re: College Football
I can't imagine so. The only scenario I can think that gets them there is:
LSU beats Alabama and wins the SEC Championship. Alabama also loses to Auburn to pick up a 2nd loss to eliminate them from CFP.
Penn St. loses at Minnesota and to Ohio St., who beats Minnesota in the Big 10 Championship game. Penn St. eliminated from CFP.
4 teams in are Ohio St., LSU, Clemson, and Oregon.
I think as long as there are 1-loss LSU, Alabama, Penn St., Ohio St., or even Clemson, any of those teams will be taken before Oregon.

This Saturday we have two great games involving undefeated teams.
LSU at Alabama
- 2 undefeated SEC Teams, long time geographical rivals, ranked 1 and 2. Doesn’t get any better
- Cheapest ticket on stubhub is $275
Penn State at Minnesota
- 2 undefeated Big 10 teams
- Huge opportunity for The Golden Gophers
These are two college football games I’ll be glued to the TV for

More likely than not at the end of this week, the playoff standings will look like:
1) Ohio St.
2) Alabama/LSU winner
3) Penn St. (assumes win)
4) Clemson
-------------------------
5) Alabama/LSU loser
6) Georgia
7) Oregon
Assuming these teams aren't upset along the way, in two week Ohio St./Penn St. play, and one of two variations will happen ...
1) Ohio St.
2) Alabama/LSU winner
3) Clemson
4) Alabama/LSU loser
--------------------------------
5) Penn St.
6) Georgia
7) Oregon
Or...
1) Alabama/LSU winner
2) Penn St
3) Clemson
4) Ohio St.
-------------------------
5) Alabama/LSU loser
6) Georgia
7) Oregon
I suppose in the latter scenario, you can get into the argument of who is the better 1-loss loser, whoever loses Bama/LSU or whoever loses Penn St/Ohio St., but realistically for the better part of the last month and for the better part of the next month, we'll be arguing about 5 teams for 4 spots. I don't find it super compelling. The only real excitement real shakeup can only really happen during conference championship week, if Georgia beats the Bama/LSU winner, or if Minnesota ran the table and beat Ohio St. I think until them, just have to pray for unlikely upsets.

Re: College Football
I know it's late and the games are today, but who do ya got in the playoff?
I think LSU will roll against Oklahoma with or without their top running back. When the line opened at LSU -10 I should have jumped at that. It's now -13.5 I think.
Burrow has been lights out and I doubt that will change.
Hurts will do OK but he doesn't have enough help.
The second game should be a classic.
I want Ohio State to win but I'm not sure they will.
A lot of points in this one.
I think LSU ends up winning the whole thing. If it's against Clemson whose defense has been great all season, we will see if they hold up since they really didn't play anybody that good.
Against Ohio State whose defense is good but not great [except for Young of course] that will be a shootout.

Re: College Football
LSU opened -6 points and soon after dropped to -5 points vs Clemson
Good for LSU that the National Championship is played in New Orleans this year - should be a high LSU percentage of fans
No need for the argument of 8 team playoff. Clearly the Top 3 teams were LSU, Clemson and Ohio State. Oklahoma was a drop off as the 4th seed
Clemson could win their 3rd National Championship in last 4 years
The 67 yard TD run by Trevor Lawrence in the first half was huge.
Clemson holding Ohio State to 3 field goals when they might have gotten TD’s was great defense especially when twice OSU was first down inside the 10 yard line
Max Venables defensive schemes kept OSU offense confused especially in the 2nd half as the put pressure on the QB

Interesting QB decisions coming up in the draft, especially if Lawrence ever decided to come out. I happen to think Lawrence is the best of the bunch but there good be a few good pro QB's in the group. If Lawrence stays at Clemson then Burrow will probably go first. Wonder how far Tua will drop?

It's weird - Todd McShay was on the Ryen Russillo pod last week, and he said he can't remember a situation like this where a guy from a major program went from a fourth or fifth round grade, to almost a consensus #1 pick. Guys from non-major conferences, or guys who transferred into a program and excelled, yes. From junior year to senior year, Burrow is 20 percent more accurate, and he's almost doubled his yardage, in only one more game. He threw five interceptions last year - this year, six in 100 more attempts. The one year improvement is crazy.UCH21377 wrote: ↑4 years ago Interesting QB decisions coming up in the draft, especially if Lawrence ever decided to come out. I happen to think Lawrence is the best of the bunch but there good be a few good pro QB's in the group. If Lawrence stays at Clemson then Burrow will probably go first. Wonder how far Tua will drop?
