Athletic but raw, unpolished. Seems to be the scouting report. Not unlike several of the big men we have gotten in the last two decades.
I'm guessing Ogundele is the bigger prize, much more Div 1 ready game, student of the game, constantly evolving, but can't run the floor like a gazelle for 30 minutes like our standard backcourt player. Would have to be subbed in and out in shorter increments to be effective. Situational basketball, would have bigger games against teams with bigger players. Might disappear in games where both Rhody and the other team are hosting a track meet.

Adam Zagoria predicted Penn State before his tweet about him postponing. Why postpone if it's already Penn State? Let's get a visit.

Which is why I believe either WVU or URI is making one final push.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑4 years ago Adam Zagoria predicted Penn State before his tweet about him postponing. Why postpone if it's already Penn State? Let's get a visit.

Re: '20 JUCO PF - Valdir Manuel (Offer)
This is where recruiting gets complicated. You're recruiting multiple players for one scholarship. You hope that choice 2 or 3 doesn't want to commit before choice 1 decides. You stall 2 and 3, but you worry you might end up with nothing in the end. This is why coaches don't sleep at night.

If we are making a final push, then maybe Cox knows something we don't...as in Josh not coming?

Maybe Cox has given Josh a date he needs a decision by or he has to move on.rambone 78 wrote: ↑4 years ago If we are making a final push, then maybe Cox knows something we don't...as in Josh not coming?
As Iggy mentioned, recruiting is a major juggling game. Turning it on again/off again with recruits slotted for the same position.

Any idea why the 3 day delay? Think this helps us?

No, it doesn’t help. He didn’t visit. I am guessing URI pulled back.
Would expect a Penn State commitment.

Re: '20 JUCO PF - Valdir Manuel (Offer)
Fans think recruiting is a one-way street. A team offers and the player decides yes or no. In this case, I think URI decided no. We'll see how that works out over the next few years.

I hope this doesn’t become another Obi Toppin situation.

Re: '20 JUCO PF - Valdir Manuel (Offer)
FWIW, I asked locally about him, to people who’ve seen him play a bit or scouted him, mainly because he’s been connected in some capacity to four different programs I like or at least follow. The consensus seems to be that he’s a guy whose parts seem better than the whole. He has some really good skills but can be thoroughly outplayed by lesser competition. They didn’t have concerns about character and think he would do ok with the academic supports of a D1 program.

Remember Obi prepped a year and then redshirted a year.
Manuel is already in his second year of college.
We got the next Obi. His name is Jacob.

Re: '20 JUCO PF - Valdir Manuel (Penn State)
He has decommitted from Seton Hall, St. Joes, St. Johns, and now Penn State (he may clearly have some issues). He was an elite prospect coming out of high school in New Jersey and ended up going the juco route. We were in his top 3 finalists along with West Virginia and then decided on Penn State. He does have the talent and we do need the front court depth this season but not sure about his mental stability.

Valdir Manuel just signed with New Mexico and former 4* PG recruit Jeremiah Francis who transferred there from UNC was granted his waiver. Good news for New Mexico this week, after the horrific tragedy of their top recruit J B White's murder 2 weeks ago.

Re: '20 JUCO PF - Valdir Manuel (New Mexico)
Wow, hard to keep up with this kid, some major issues with him.
He originally committed to Seton Hall then flipped to St. Joe's due to academic difficulties. Left St. Joe's prior to the season and went the juco route (Harcum College).
Then committed to St. Johns but backed out after Mullin's left. Then signed with Penn State but was released from his LOI.
Ended up at New Mexico and now indefinitely suspended.

Seems likely that he's doing pro ball, somewhere, if he has something to 'announce' in the coming days.
