Re: 2019-20 A-10 Predictions
Seems like a pretty fair prediction at this point of the offseason. Those top 4 are all probably in a position where any of them could finish 1-4.

My guess is we end up 4th in the preseason poll behind VCU Dayton Davidson. Bonnie’s lost two key guys.

Love the guy that replied to the effect of yeah but Fordham beat you guys once!!1! Great, how about you talk with the team and ask why the hell these guys can't match the effort somehow produced while playing us in order to get more than 3-4 conference wins a season?!steviep123 wrote: ↑5 years ago I'm going to post one of my favorite twitter posts regarding this from SmartyBarrett's twitter account (Sorry SB if I'm stealing your thunder):

Re: 2019-20 A-10 Predictions
College Sports Madness is back with their Top 144 countdown of teams for 2019-20. It apparently does not think too much of the A-10 as it has just six of its fourteen members in its top 144. St Louis comes in at #143 and is predicted as the sixth place team in the A-10. This is the worst showing for the league in this ranking as in the last 5 years, starting with last year, there have been 8, 9, 8, 8, and 11 A-10 teams in this top 144.
#143 St Louis / #6 Atlantic 10 https://www.collegesportsmadness.com/article/17581

I'm thinking Saint Louis may be worse than that. They have lost a lot from a team that was barely good at all.

The top of the A10 should be very good.
That's the first 5 teams or so.
The rest? Dreck.

Re: 2019-20 A-10 Predictions
There isn’t going to be a lot of variance in who these experts pick as the top 4 teams, but I think you could legitimately put those four teams in basically any order and it would be hard to really argue it.
It’s clear there are going to be some horrendous teams in this league next year, but if UMass finishes 8th then the middle of the league will have been much much worse than I’m expecting. As a point of reference, URI was 8th this past season, and even though it wasnt a great year it was a much more talented team than what UMass will put on the floor this season.

Re: 2019-20 A-10 Predictions
Everyone will have VCU 1st preseason. They are a clear preseason Top 25 team. I also don’t think any of the experts will have URI ahead of any of the top 3 preseason. Rhody needs to have a solid year and outperform one of these teams. A10 has a good chance at three bids if three of the top four play up to expectations.

Re: 2019-20 A-10 Predictions
Maybe everybody will have VCU first and URI fourth. There is a lot of group-think with these things. I don’t see much difference between the four teams. Maybe what I should have said is that you could tell me those four teams will finish in any order and it wouldn’t shock me. If one of these teams isn’t in the top four, I will be surprised.

Re: 2019-20 A-10 Predictions
Definitely agree TP . and less is known about URI's 6 new players around the A 10 than the other three. I don't think it
would be out there to expect the URI Rams to have added the most new talent to their roster . And the addition of two
already post high school bigs plus an anticipated much healthier Harris should significantly improve performance. Additionally,
who knows how healthy VCU's Evans will be ? Look how some of URI's injuries affected players like EC and maybe CT and
others .BTW does anyone have any info on Evans health ?

Re: 2019-20 A-10 Predictions
In order to finish near the top of the A-10, URI has to better its record against lesser teams. As noted above, URI fared ok versus the top five NET teams in the league (4-5). It was against the lower ranked teams where URI failed going only 5-4 (started out 2-4) versus the bottom 8 teams - losing to the likes of UMass and Duquesne on the road and at home to GMU and Fordham. The wins against the top teams showed Rhody had the talent to compete. The losses to lower level teams however exhibited the mark of a team that had wholesale changes from the previous year. The loss of a head coach and five key players along with a first year inexperienced head coach had an effect. It seemed like things were finally getting figured out toward the end of the season.

I'm sure he's going to be fine, he played in the NCAA tournament game against UCF.

Re: 2019-20 A-10 Predictions
A lot of that was timing - it’s not like we just decided to go hard against good teams and mailed it against lesser teams. During the swoon where we dropped a lot of those games against weaker teams we also got destroyed by VCU and by Dayton at our place. If the schedule had been structured a different way, we could have gone 0-9 or 1-8 against good teams and won all of the other games by wide margins. I think the key for next year is more being consistent and not losing focus for a 3-4 week stretch.RF1 wrote: ↑5 years ago In order to finish near the top of the A-10, URI has to better its record against lesser teams. Do we think TJ being on the bench for games at the end of the year may have helped with that growth as well?TruePoint wrote: ↑5 years agoA lot of that was timing - it’s not like we just decided to go hard against good teams and mailed it against lesser teams. The first game Carroll missed was the Davidson game at the Ryan, I believe. That was the game I’ve fingered as the turning point, even though we didn’t win. Was the first game in a month that they played with noticeable focus, energy and effort.

You wonder with the timing with that.
Hopefully it wasn't because of problems with Carroll...or it could have been a spark supplied by TJ.

Or it could have been game plan. Remember during DH the ups and downs until Cox took over the game plan for each game? We started winning big time. Maybe Cox game planned after Carroll.rambone 78 wrote: ↑5 years ago You wonder with the timing with that.

I've said all along that TJ was a big reason they turned it around late in the season.
Coincidence? I think not.
Promote him, and it increases our chances of having a good season.
If Carroll comes back and TJ isn't made an assistant, don't say I didn't tell you so if the team flops.

I think we need to maintain an in season thread of who is scouting each game. This has come up time after time. We should keep a running tally of asst coaches and their scout W/L.

Re: 2019-20 A-10 Predictions
The top projected teams have a lot of starters returning
URI has the entire starting 5 returning, however, only went (9-9) with the last 4 games as Wins to finish .500
Dowtin and Langevine are very solid and either one could have have a phenomenal season and take 1st team A10 honors, or even POY
Harris and Martin are capable and will be Sophomores
Need Russell to greatly improve his shooting for URI to challenge for the Top 4 Tournament Bye Positions
Will be an interesting Obadiah Prediction Contest this year

That guy likes Grant Golden about 3000X more than I do. I don’t think you should be eligible to be paid for your basketball opinions if one of them is that soft-ass Grant Golden is a better player than Cyril Langevine.

Re: 2019-20 A-10 Predictions
There's no way Richmond will be the most I'll interesting team in the league.
They bring everyone back, but they really aren't that talented.
I'm sure they will have their good nights, but I'd be surprised if this isn't Chris Mooney's last year.
It also had a lazy write up of us.
They didn't mention any of our transfers, how the top freshmen class in the league is getting a year older, and how we are bringing in the second best class in the league to back all that up.

Very lazy. You don't bring up Jeremy Sheppard or Antwan Walker? How about the potential of a healthy Jermaine Harris? Tyrese Martin and Dana Tate a year older? I'm fine with finishing 4th but we have the potential to win the league. He makes Richmond out to be that team.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑4 years ago There's no way Richmond will be the most I'll interesting team in the league.

They didn't mention any of our transfers, how the top freshmen class in the league is getting a year older, and how we are bringing in the second best class in the league to back all that up.
ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

I'm fine with finishing 4th but we have the potential to win the league. He makes Richmond out to be that team.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑4 years ago There's no way Richmond will be the most I'll interesting team in the league.
They bring everyone back, but they really aren't that talented.

No way Richmond has enough to challenge any of the top tier teams.
They're excited because they have Nick Sherod back.... I mean so what?
They still lost to Longwood last year WITH Nick Sherod.
They have everyone back from a 20 loss team with no additions except Sherod who missed most of last year.
We have our best players back from a winning team and made upgrades with our replacements.
Yeah they really didn't mention anyone on our team at all.

And also forgot to mention that URI's returning team took 2 of 3 from VCU and split with Dayton last season, but sure, Richmond is the one who will grab that 4th place spot. Did their editors really allow the writer to mention Richmond and the NCAA Tournament in the same sentence?PeterRamTime wrote: ↑4 years agosteveystuds06 wrote: ↑4 years agoVery lazy. Pretty sure this is the fifth or sixth consecutive "This is the year!" for Richmond.
