Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
If true this seems like a good thing for the A10. The conference can move forward knowing that the NBE will not poach any A10 schools (St. Louis or Dayton) at least in the near future. Would the AAC look to UMass to fill its open spot? Not a good move for UMass...

Good point. I hadn’t thought of that. It is good for the A10.R.Kelly150 wrote: ↑5 years ago If true this seems like a good thing for the A10. It’s taken the NBE forever to expand to 11 teams. They can now copy the P5’s trend and go to 20 games
Will be interesting to see who looks to grab UConn’s spot.

Yeah tons of other outlets jumping on now to. Sure seems like a done deal. Overall I think its a good thing for college basketball so I am excited about it.

Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
Full list of penalties:
- Two years of probation.
- A three-year show-cause order for the former head coach. During that period, any NCAA member school employing him must restrict him from any athletically related duties unless it shows cause why the restrictions should not apply.
- A vacation of records in which men’s basketball student-athletes competed while ineligible. The university must provide a written report containing the contests impacted to the NCAA media coordination and statistics staff within 45 days of the public decision release.
- A limit of 12 men’s basketball scholarships during the 2019-20 academic year, a reduction by one from the allowable 13 scholarships (self-imposed by the university).
- Recruiting restrictions, including:
- A one-week ban on men’s basketball unofficial visits during the 2018-19 academic year (self-imposed by the university)
and a two-week ban during the 2019-20 academic year.
- A one-week ban on recruiting communications in men’s basketball during the 2018-19 academic year (self-imposed by
the university).
- A reduction of four men’s basketball recruiting-person days during the 2018-19 (self-imposed by the university) and 2019-
20 academic years.
- A one-visit reduction from the permissible number of official visits in men’s basketball during the rolling 2018-19 and
2019-20 two-year period.
- A $5,000 fine (self-imposed by the university).

Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
Two straight head coaches have gotten UConn's program sanctioned by the NCAA with penalties. Seems to be a strong culture of cheating in Storrs. Will Hurley make it three?

Didn't we have two straight coaches that got our program sanctioned with penalties (Harrick and Jerry D)? Kind of a weird thing to bring up in this case.

Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
I know Steve Kerr has also dealt with many back problems and surgical procedures, and some speculated a few years back it may lead him to retire as HC of the Warriors. A lot of people assume that only the taller/heavier college and pro players can get future leg and back issues, but when you think about it impact from small players moving around or hitting screens as a shooter and defender or a driving guard jumping into the trees can really add up.

Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
The K-Cup incident alone is Calhoun acting like a toddler - well that is disrespecting a toddler - my 4 year old wouldn't even do that. If he purposely knocked over a bunch of K-cups and stepped on them to make grounds go all over at home, I'm willing to bet Calhoun's wife would not do a damn thing to clean it. If I did that when I was a kid, my mother would have made me clean it. So would my wife if I did it now and they'd both be right.SmartyBarrett wrote: ↑4 years ago I hope you're sitting down for this one. It turns out Jim Calhoun is kind of an asshole. And that seems to be the lesser of the incidents. It's the institution. What an ass hole. Him and the whole department.

Not sure how I missed that story about coach Hurley having surgery. Many similarities with my situation. Same exact timing with the MRI and the surgery
His diagnosis was the one I wished I had
I’m so happy for Dan Andrea Daniel and Andrew

Javonte Brown-Ferguson, a highly touted 6-foot-11 center from Ontario, Canada, announced Wednesday that he would attend UConn next year. Brown-Ferguson, who is just 17, picked the Huskies over Texas A&M and Kansas.

Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
This UConn team reminds me a little bit of Dan’s early teams here. Can kind of see that the program is going in the right direction but it won’t be linear because he doesn’t have the roster he needs yet. Losing games in a way that feels kind of familiar.

Yeah that Akok shows really good potential
The backcourt of Vital and Gilbert needs to play better
The refs were terrible
I am a little salty I had UConn +2

Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
Dan's best players are his youngest...never the best formula. They need Bouknight and Akok to contribute in a big way now to win games against good teams. Just don't get enough out of Gilbert, Polley and Vital to beat the stronger teams on their schedule. But its definitely trending in right direction, and my guess is when all of those parts click this year at times they will look very good and will beat some good teams. I would also guess they are ranked or very close to being ranked next preseason.

Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
Their main problem is their senior guards (Vital and Gilbert) play like sophomore year Fatts- they might take over and win a game for you, but they’ll trash a lot, too. And, same as for URI last year, the guard depth isn’t there to sit guys. Sit Gilbert for the freshman Gaffney? No way he’s ready. I do think Adams would have been good as a Ram.
When a new coach takes over for a fired coach and makes the choice to not bring anyone with him and to not kick off anyone he inherits, the roster can be rough for a couple years. I still thinks that’s the right way to do it... but Whaley, Polley, Wilson plus the veteran guards, who all lost years of development? They’re decidedly meh. I forgot how painful and sometimes boring these transition years are. Even last year when URI was struggling, it still had elements that felt like Rhody basketball of the last few years. That’s the positive the continuity in coaches gets you.
Akok Akok is fun as hell to watch, Bouknight’s good. Carlton is ok but not a center Hurley would necessarily recruit. Springs, Jackson, Cole, and Brown-Ferguson should be good additions. With this being their AAC purgatory year, I’m probably going to enjoy A10 play way more.
