Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
Bensley Joseph is ranked 5th in NERR while Reyes is ranked 7th. Joseph starts for 17u Expressions along with Clarke and Cisse all 3 are Class of 2021 playing with majority Class of 2020 players, while Reyes starts for Expressions 16u.
My guess is rankings are not fully considering AAU ball performance this season. Joseph should be in the Top 100.

Ohio U, VCU, DePaul also offer Bufkin

Following recruiting action this summer is a different kind of challenge with the new rules. There will be a lot of camps like this...

I'm happy that URI doesn't have a coach like Jim Crews to follow up a run of success. Cox is young and works hard enough to parlay the success of the past few years into a team/teams worth watching.

Actually Dominguez is no longer playing at New Hampton, he is moving to play at Woodstock Academy, making home a more likely candidate for UMASS.
Will be interesting to see how Dominguez, Joseph, Clarke and Cisse play for Expressions in July. URI without Boswell provides UMASS with one less obstacle in recruiting Expressions and New England talent.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
With DJ Johnson committing today Rhody is done recruiting for the 19-20 season. They will play the season with 12 scholarship players.
That gives them three scholarships for next year. Expect those to be filled by Elijah Wood, Leggett, Miles or SG and a big man.
I think they would take a big man as a mid year transfer if they can get someone who could start next year. Otherwise they sign a ‘20 big man (probably in the Spring).

So, all in all, how is everyone feeling generally about our recruiting effort? I know there was much discussion about too many guards, positionless basketball, need for a 4 or 5, etc. But let’s talk BIG Picture here??

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
Seems solid to me on paper, but I don't think we'll know how the fit is and the potential of the team until they play the games. (I'm very good at typing obvious things lately.) Obviously, a bit more shooting or a few more big man options would be better, but I like the depth on the wings and the competition and options it provides.LoveThoseRams wrote: ↑5 years ago So, all in all, how is everyone feeling generally about our recruiting effort? A 6-10 4-star center would’ve put it over the top but I’m pretty happy. Fatts aside I like having size in the backcourt.

I like that Cox got a transfer and two jucos. They will play a key role in making this team better. The freshmen are more of a long-term investment.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
A big man for 20 is a must.
I can see us struggle against some power 5 teams this year who have multiple bigs, especially if we still dont shoot well again. Cyril cant do it alone, so hopefully Jermaine and Walker can help him out.
I think we did a good job of addressing the shooting issue.
Sheppard and Devale are both 40 plus percent shooters. Just that should help a tremendous amount.
I dont think the guys on the team from last year are actually as bad as they were last year. If we have better inside out action we should see better shot selection so a higher shooting percentage across the board.
We literally couldn't be worse! So some improvement in any sense is almost inevitable.
We will be older, more experienced and more talented.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
I think in the big picture the best news is that this year we may very well not have to rely upon any significant minutes from the freshman. Last year 33% of the time went to freshmen. The year before that 9% (Fatts). The year before that 17.7% (Dowtin and Langevine).
For our non freshman players in terms of experience based upon years of playing college basketball (including JUCO years and excluding red shirt years) at the beginning of this year we have collectively 16 years of experience. Last year we had 10. The year before that we had 21 and the year before that we had 17.
This tells me we are trending in the right direction given our success in the recent past has largely been based on maturity (if we include red shirt years) and our experience.

That happens when you graduate 5 seniors that were part of the rotation. And you bring in your best rated recruiting class ever.KevanBoyles wrote: ↑5 years ago I think in the big picture the best news is that this year we may very well not have to rely upon any significant minutes from the freshman. Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
Obviously we would love to land a talented 6'10 center. More often than not guys that size that come here are projects. Give me undersized, strong, and skilled bigs that play bigger than they are. I guess I'm alone here, but I expect Jermaine Harris to be able to play with any big man in the country by his junior year. He's my starting center after Cyril graduates.

He’s going to have to bulk up. He has the skills but not the strength at present. I’m anxious to see if he’s been working the weights this off season.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑5 years ago Obviously we would love to land a talented 6'10 center. Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
The open ‘19 spot and one of the open ‘20 spots are the same spot. Only Jeff and Cyril graduate.
I believe they are done for the 19-20 team.
For 20-21 season:
They will add a big man (either mid season transfer or ‘20 recruit).
They will add a SG - hopefully Leggett or Miles.

Total scholarships by year are correct but there is an error in the third year. It shows 2 open 2019s (there is only 1 open 2019s) and 2 open 2021s (there are 3 open 2021s).

Kid plays for DeMatha. He’s developmental but is getting better. Plays behind Hunter Dickinson right now.

I believe it's Paul Smith, a 6-9 power forward, class of '20 who plays for DeMatha High. His stock is on the rise.

Smith knows Leggett and Jermaine Harris. Leggett could help recruit a DMV big man.

6’9” 205 lbs. In the highlights from this weekend’s games he looks like he will need to add some weight - which makes sense for a 17 year old.
