That would have been a potential disaster for St Joe’s - it is tough to coach your kid, even tougher if you have zero head coaching experience.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
My point was that it was well known that Jameer Nelson Jr not going to St Joseph’s was it was a lock when Sr did not get the job that there was no way Jr was going there. So should be no surprise that he didn’t pick St Joe.
Will be interesting when GW plays at St Joe. I hope Jameer Jr touches his Dads former school. Don’t like the new President or the new AD.
As for now HC experience, it’s interesting how many Head Coaches are getting their jobs worth no experience directly related to College, and at higher level programs too.....

Former players don't often succeed as head coaches, GM's, or owners.
For evidence of that, just look at MJ, Bird, or Magic.

Almost every head coach was a former player at some point. Maybe you mean to say many elite players have failed at coaching.

Bird? He's the only person in NBA History to win MVP, Coach of the year and Executive of the year. When he was made coach he said he was only doing it for 3 years. In the 3 years, he had a .687 winning percentage. Made the conference finals the first 2 years and then lost to the Lakers in the finals in his last year. He then stepped down as promised. He later went to the front office and won Executive of the year. He stepped down after having health issues.

Staff is onto recruiting the ‘20 class. Don’t expect another add to the roster for the Fall. Scholarship available for a mid year transfer.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
Maybe it is just because I don't know what I'm talking about, but I feel like this is a mature move from our staff. They're not just settling for a question mark player to take the last spot on the bench. I know people have questioned Cox ability to recruit without DH running the program, but if Walker is able to contribute it gives more hope that Coach Cox's patient style to recruiting is working. We've had some great transfers in recent history, so if they're not feeling that they can get their player right now let's wait and see who's going to be available mid year.
But like I said, I'm certainly no basketball whiz.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
It sounds like you are dead on. Great move to leave the scholarship open and not to settle on a junior college player with no offensive game that we are hoping for a ceiling of 10 minutes a game. If someone who was a high end player became available next week Cox would use his final scholarship right away, but will not go looking to take anyone that isn't a certain to play big time minutes in the next couple of years.phipsiGD'11 wrote: ↑5 years agoMaybe it is just because I don't know what I'm talking about, but I feel like this is a mature move from our staff. UMASS is the only A-10 School with a top 100 recruit. Unless I missed something.
Not a great look. VCU has a shot before next year, they are on a few of the undecided
prospect lists. But it's not looking good.

Go look at the top players in the A10 and how many were ranked in the Top 100. Just easy no - Dowtin, Cyril, Topin.

Ty’s IG story today has him landing in Wichita. Must be an open gym and/or in-home visit.
Today and tomorrow are in the Recruiting Period (in person and off campus visits, no AAU events)
Thursday is a Quiet Period (only on college campus visits)
Friday - Sunday is an Evaluation Period (sanctioned AAU events)

Possibly someone from Hutchinson CC. High rated JUCO program. Not far from Wichita.

Could be looking at two players on that roster. DJ seems like a logical choice and was 2nd leading scorer at 13.8 ppg, 37.5% 3PT and 83% FT.

If we're talking about Hutchinson CC, let's hope we're talking about James Rojas, a JC All American, ranked the #5 Juco in the country. Rojas is a 6-8 PF from Jamestown, NY and recently got his release from Buffalo and is uncommitted. He was Hutchinson's leading scorer, averaging 18.8 points per game on 55% shooting (33% on threes) and averaged 5.8 rebounds per game.

The only way I would take another juco guard is if they have 3 years to play.

Buffalo is now left with no recruits for this years incoming class with Nate Oates having left for Alabama. If we are to see Rojas on the floor in a URI Game this year chances are it will be with Rojas in a Alabama uniform, not in a Keaney Blue uniform. Rojas will likely follow Oates to Tuscaloosa.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
You may be right, but Rojas asked for his release from Buffalo 3 weeks ago and he received it 2 weeks ago, but he's uncommitted since his release. Meanwhile, it seems that Alabama only has 1 open scholarship remaining and they are working several different options to fill it and Rojas doesn't appear to be their top choice according a couple different sources.
Sadly, it's probably very unlikely we're in the mix for Rojas although I wish we were. As our schedule gets more difficult we could use a game proven big in addition to Langevine.

Wow.
At least they'll get a good idea on how they stack up.
A good number of those drafted will be from overseas as well, so itll really be around 45 drafted and about 2 two ways per team picked up, plus the summer leaguers. I doubt anyone would forgo another year in college to be a summer leaguer.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
Interesting details on the NBA Draft:
The underclassmen who have declared have two options to return to college. They can withdraw by June 10th or can return if they aren’t drafted. So if a player stays in the draft and is picked late in the 2nd round (no guaranteed contract) they would be stuck.
I think you will see a lot of players withdraw shortly after getting feedback from the NBA Combine (May 14-19).
Last year 69 players were invited to the Combine. So a lot of underclassmen will get their feedback when they don’t get invited.
175 college underclassmen declared and 58 international players declared. The Mock Drafts show a lite year for international players with 4-5 being selected. They also show 8 Sr being drafted. That would have 47-48 underclassmen out if the 175 being drafted.
