Re: 2018 - 2019 Women's Basketball Season
I agree on Gromacki and Ralph, but I’d put them way ahead of the second group, in which I’d have McCombs and probably Baxter. Beyond that, not much there IMO. I’d really hope the next coach is one of the first two.

My only problem with Gromacki is he only has two years D1 experience as an assistant at Temple. But he is intriguing. I’d be happy with him or Shea Ralph.

Re: 2018 - 2019 Women's Basketball Season
I think as it's been mentioned above, you want a young, hungry recruiter with some player development experience. Ferrara and Ralph fit that mold, but I think either of those two and McCombs/Baxter would be a welcome departure from the past two hires. Inglese had a record of success but couldn't hold onto staff once she got here (plus other issues creating a culture), and LaForce is still a head-scratcher in so many ways before she even got here (ONE winning season in a lesser conference). Gromacki would be very interesting too.
Good list overall, but obviously it's all hearsay until there's an announcement.

If they go the retread route again we are doomed! If they are smart and go with a young vibrant coach who is hungry , can relate, and can change the culture, that is what this program needs.

Ramulous-Andy is the all time leader in wins in D3.
Great recruiter. All YC tennis player at Rhody. Hall of famer.
Popular. How would he not be ideal candidate?

Do you want to say who your sources told you? It would be interesting to know who the finalists where. On paper it seems like a good hire. Hopefully it turns into reality.Seawrightspostgame wrote: ↑5 years ago My sources told me something completely different! I need new sources!

7 of the players on the Syracuse roster are international players. Will be interesting to see if she goes that route at URI.

Contract Info per the Projo:
Reiss was hired to a five-year contract with a starting salary of $185,000 per year, which grows to $200,000 in the fourth and fifth years of the deal. The contract also affords her an annual motor vehicle stipend ($5,000) as well as several incentive bonuses for such things as winning 20 regular-season games in a year, the Atlantic 10 championship, and other accomplishments.

If she meets those incentives they should immediately put in her in the URI Hall of Fame.

Re: 2018 - 2019 Women's Basketball Season
I went to the presser.
She is a very personable and impressive.
I road the elevator up to the third level with many members of the team.
They had met with the new coach earlier today as a team and individually. They seem to like the hire.
Andy Yosimoff was there to show his support for her.
I think this is a good hire.
I was one of four people at the presser who were high school classmates from an acclaimed Providence High School in the same graduating year. I think we broke the previous record for high school classmates at an announcement for a women's team coach.

Re: 2018 - 2019 Women's Basketball Season
Now that we look like we got a winner as head coach, here are 5 key areas that need addressing:
1. Turnovers, guards force too many bad shots and forced penetrations . Ball needs to move better, more screens
2. Perimeter defense, guards allow too many made 3’s and get beat off the dribble too easy and need to box out.
3. Better and more running , transition offense and defense was terrible. Team conditioning last year was terrible
4. Rebounding and interior defense was actually a strength. Forwards need to close out better
5. Selfishness and overall attitude. Players only care about how many points they score and not how the team does. If they don’t do good they sulk. No one should sulk and walk off the court when they are being subbed out. Reflects poorly on the team. My general impression was a lack of unselfishness.

Her name doesn't have the same sizzle in this area, but her resume is every bit as good as Shea Ralph's so this is an exciting hire. I also liked what I heard in the press conference about focusing more on the basics then the wins and losses, though I suppose that's an easy thing to say when you're taking over a program in the shape ours is in. Hopefully this is truly a new era for the program and I'm definitely going to make a point of going to more games this season

I watched the presser last night. I not only liked what Thorr said about her, but her remarks about building the culture, and thanking the players that are staying, etc. This is very promising.

Re: 2018 - 2019 Women's Basketball Season
I’m on record as saying this is a great hire. She says all the right things. But don’t sell the Rhody team short. They were at worst a .500 ball club and with the right coaching could have been at least middle of the pack to overachieving in our conference. The previous coach did not have a clue. Ran the same stuff for 5 years and the culture just went into the sewer. Felt bad for the good kids who wanted to win. Losing colome may be a blessing in disguise as she did not mesh well with Davida and tended to monopolize the ball. Offense should run through the 6’5 post and everybody eats. Tammy will have this team in tip top shape, ramp up the intensity and defense push the ball in transition and stamp the team as selfless. That alone will get this team to .500, throw in a little sacrifice, discipline, and confidence we could be breathing on the necks of the top dogs. The talent is there. Unleash the kraken!

Re: 2018 - 2019 Women's Basketball Season
A couple more thoughts.....Coach went through a thank you list of coaches who helped mentor and shape her during her life from the 6th grade on...when addressing the players she had hopes that someday in the future one or two of them would be at a podium being announced as a head coach and that they would thank her...it shows she knows she is doing more than teaching basketball to these young women...
...also heard that while the search was going on a few of our better players were getting the bum's rush from other school's coaches to try to get them to leave here for there....so there is talent here....

This was going on even before the search went on. When coaching changes occur there is a higher probability that the year to sit out can be waived by the NCAA.Ramulous wrote: ↑5 years ago A couple more thoughts.....Coach went through a thank you list of coaches who helped mentor and shape her during her life from the 6th grade on...when addressing the players she had hopes that someday in the future one or two of them would be at a podium being announced as a head coach and that they would thank her...it shows she knows she is doing more than teaching basketball to these young women...

Highest Immediate priority forReiss will be to assess the current individual players and try to keep the best players who are considering leaving to stay with the program.

Reiss will need to contact the 4 incoming recruits who committed in November signing period.
Unfortunately Taniyah Thompson, reopened her recruiting and sighed with East Carolina last week.
