Re: '19 JUCO PG - Jeremy Sheppard (Offer)
Sheppard's FT percentage of 82.8% ranks 285th in the JUCO ranks. Are the baskets bigger? 284 better than that?
On URI, if he comes here and shoots that percentage, there will be a parade down Upper College road in his honor...….

My biggest worry would be that someone promises him he'll start.

Re: '19 JUCO PG - Jeremy Sheppard (Offer)
So he doesn't have to sit a year right? We'll still need a point guard for after Fatts graduates, preferably one who comes in Jeff's senior year, who'll be a junior when Fatts graduates....keep the point guards coming!

His 77-93 raw number of FTs made ranked 285. His 82.8% ranked 66th.rambone 78 wrote: ↑5 years ago Sheppard's FT percentage of 82.8% ranks 285th in the JUCO ranks. Are the baskets bigger? 284 better than that?

But yeah, the numbers look real good. Obviously a tad undersized, but if he was 6'4" he'd be going to Kentucky. I say go for it!

Pretty sure Sheppard will come in as a junior, so he won’t be here after Fatts graduates.steviep123 wrote: ↑5 years ago So he doesn't have to sit a year right? Junior College players do not sit out. They are eligible immediately unless some question or issue on academicssteviep123 wrote: ↑5 years ago So he doesn't have to sit a year right? Re: '19 JUCO PG - Jeremy Sheppard (Offer)
Yes, I know. Fatts and Sheppard would be seniors together. Which is why they need another PG for at least that year so he'll have some backup experience once Fatts and Sheppard (if he comes) graduate.Rhody15 wrote: ↑5 years agoPretty sure Sheppard will come in as a junior, so he won’t be here after Fatts graduates.steviep123 wrote: ↑5 years ago So he doesn't have to sit a year right? Fatts and Shepard could be similar to Jordan Bone and lamonte Turner of Tennessee. Two high level smaller guards.

The nice thing is Sheppard is a legit 6’1” which could make him a better defender than Fatts (who is probably 5’9”-5’10”).

Go see Transfer thread under NCAA or Bust.
He was suspended/thrown off ECU for breaking team rules.

Re: '19 JUCO PG - Jeremy Sheppard (Offer)
if Sheppard's got his act together and he's a good teammate, no disrespect to Omar, but I'd take two years of Sheppard over three years of Silverio. Sorry to read about Omar losing his Gram, it's always terrible losing a loved one. Even though he transferred out he's part of Rhody mbb. Hope he knows we will always pull for him.
Go Rhody!!!

I think you have to trust Cox and the staff on this one. I don't see Cox bringing in anyone who is not all in based on where the team is at this point in time.

Re: '19 JUCO PG - Jeremy Sheppard (Offer)
There are going to be minutes available. Like 35 of them, just from Jeff leaving, plus Thompson’s minutes. The type of impact guy we want won’t be scared off by Fatts, Shepard and Hammond. He will see the opening created by the departure of our the guy leading the team in minutes as a chance to get on the floor right away and then a chance to play as much as he can handle for another three years.rambone 78 wrote: ↑5 years agoA huge priority. Whoever we get likely won't play much behind Fatts and Sheppard [again if he comes] his freshman year....sometimes that impacts who we will get but hopefully it will work out.

I love the idea of having an established PG with Fatts in 20. Bring in a freshmen to back these two guys up and get up to speed for 21.

Re: '19 JUCO PG - Jeremy Sheppard (Offer)
Sheppard's Stats for 31 games:
90-203 on 3FGs for 44.3%
77-93 on FTs for 82.8%
3.4 rebounds per game
4.7 assists per game
2.4 steals per game
1.5 assist/turnover ratio
What keeps this kid from challenging for the starting PG position? Just asking for a friend.

Don't get caught up in positions, it's positionless basketball. Need more than 1-2 guys that can handle the ball, facilitate for others, and score on their own. This kid seems to fit that.

Need more guys who can shoot 3 pointers too
Watching the NCAA and NIT games shooting the 3 ball with proficiency is critical.
And not from just one player

Re: '19 JUCO PG - Jeremy Sheppard (Offer)
I know you're not a big Fatts fan. I've never seen Sheppard play, so I have no idea. I know his shooting stats at ECU weren't good, but were very good last year. It seems not a lot of defense is played at the JUCO level, but it also would be expected that he's improved quite a bit since he played D1 three seasons ago. I would expect his numbers to be somewhere in between. But 38-40 % from three would still be nice.ramster wrote: ↑5 years agoNot Jeff, of course not. 40% from 3 is as efficient as 60% from 2 so I welcome those numbers.

Re: '19 JUCO PG - Jeremy Sheppard (Offer)
Exactly
90-203 on 3FGs for 44.3%
77-93 on FTs for 82.8%
To put in perspective only one of the Top 50 Three Point shooters in the A10 hit over 40%. Laurent hit 35-75 for 46.7%
Most attempts in A10 were the freshman, Frampton from Davidson with 100-266 for 37.6%
203 Attempts would put Sheppard with the highest of the A10
Pierre took 215, Gilyard 204, Bess 203
Love Sheppard with 44.3% on 203 attempts, a big number PLUS he shows his shooting prowness by hitting 77-93 FTs for 82.8%
Excellent prospect for us.

Re: '19 JUCO PG - Jeremy Sheppard (Offer)
I'm actually impressed by his freshman stats. He had some big games against tough competition and improved his scoring and 3 pt shooting in conference play. As we saw this year it's very hard for freshman to make an immediate impact.
All year long we were stuck with whatever Fatts showed up. Sometimes he was the best player on the floor and sometimes he shot more threes than Antwan Walker in the 2001-02 NBA season (645). Cox will now have the luxury of sitting Fatts if he's in foul trouble and more importantly ice cold. I expect a more consistent Fatts next year, but knowing that he has competition for his spot will hopefully make him a more complete efficient player.
We need this kid for a variety of reasons! Get this done Cox!!!
Sheppard and Terrell had very similar freshman seasons. If he ends up being half the player Terrell is I'll be happy.

I hope it doesn’t come down to the “surroundings” bc Dallas and the SMU coeds will crush us if that’s what matters. Luckily it almost never does, the next guy that says he came to Rhody for the beaches or the weather will be the first.

Back when I went to URI the coeds there were VERY highly ranked lol.
As a party school we were number 2 in the country one year.....don't remember who votes on those sort of things.
I majored in business admin with a minor in partying....maybe that's why I don't remember?
