Unless Minnesota makes a huge comeback, it's all favorites all the time.
Maybe Auburn can beat Kansas. I've got the Tigers winning this game.
Yeah it's boring!
Bunch of blowouts and no upsets.

Re: Games of Interest - Post Season Play
Certainly not a banner year for the conference. Unlike prior years where there were some mediocre records because everyone beat each other up, this year there were a lot of similar records because no one was really any good.
The conference’s two best teams.. Nova was the worst they’ve been since the realignment. Marquette was a complete fraud all year long. Saw that Murray St beatdown coming a mile away.
Outside of those two, the other 8 teams were mediocre at best and the difference between all 8 was razor thin.

Re: Games of Interest - Post Season Play
Apparently the tournament did not go smoothly at the XL Center in Hartford. The game times assigned by the NCAA and tv did not help matters. There was little time between the two sessions to clear out the building, clean it up, and restock concessions.
There were additionally many other complaints by fans not addressed in the stories below. Fans had issues navigating the very narrow single concourse for the 14k seat 1970's era arena. Lines were very long for concessions and bathrooms. Concession stands ran out of many items as they did not have adequate inventory. Even UConn legend Rebecca Lobo commented that she couldn't get hot dogs or chicken fingers for her kids at halftime of the 2nd game of the first session Thursday because they had already run out.
At March Madness in Hartford, frustrated fans were stuck at entrances to the XL Center and missed part of Villanova-St. Mary’s game

Well actually it did. Against Dayton a few weeks ago. I have no idea how that tip didn't drop against us.
But when it comes to the NCAA tourney, Duke has a golden horseshoe up their ass.
We should know. 1978 and 1988 come to mind.

Three referees just lost their jobs. The Dookies shot 12 free throws and U of Central Falls shot 20.

We got lucky but not THAT lucky
There was a missed alley oop to go up six
Missed shot by Duke.
Offensive rebound.
Zion drive, gets away with the shoulder.
Tacko fouls, makes the lay up.
MISSES free throw.
Bounces RIGHT to barrett!
Layup.
Missed lay up by UCF
Wide open tip rolls ridiculously off the rim, one centimeter from rolling in.
It was UNREAL.

Because UVA is too good and there is no such thing as an upset in this tournament.

UVA has been the 1 seed how many times lately and has pretty much bounced relatively early.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑5 years ago

Tournaments in Bennett's time:
2012 10 Seed (first round loss)
2014 1 seed (sweet 16 loss)
2015 2 seed (round of 32 loss)
2016 1 seed (elite eight loss)
2017 5 seed (round of 32 loss)
2018 1 seed only 1 seed to lose to a 16 (destroyed by UMBC)
2019 1 seed (sweet 16)
So far, they've only made the elite 8. While I'd love to have their success, UVA under Bennett has been the 1 seed 4 times and the 2 another time, and so far they've not reached the final four. Until they can get there, I will continue to pick against them, though I do hope they beat Oregon.

I agree. That shot clock violation was pretty clear and should have been reversed. Then there was the Cam Reddish blocked three that was called a foul and the 17 fouls that Tacko committed.Rhodymob05 wrote: ↑5 years ago That’s Duke game was absurd. I hope the NCAA reviews that officiating.

Duke committed an uncalled offensive foul right before the 5th foul on Tacko.

Does anyone think that if the roles were reversed, that an offensive foul would have been called on UCF?steviep123 wrote: ↑5 years ago Duke committed an uncalled offensive foul right before the 5th foul on Tacko.
If you guessed YES, you're a winner!
Whether the whistle blows or not, Duke gets the calls in crunch time. Will never change.

Re: Games of Interest - Post Season Play
Did we already forget the Wendal Carter block call that should have been a charge in the Elite 8 game vs Kansas that decided the game last year? That was widely talked about the next day as being a blown call but nobody said it's because Kansas gets all the calls. LSU traveled on their game winner on Saturday. Do the Tigers get all the calls? I'm not a Patriots fan but when people say they get calls it drives me nuts too. Refs have been blowing calls forever and they have also swallowed their whistles at the end of games forever. It helped Duke yesterday (That Barrett play painfully reminded me of Bentil' s put back against us in 2015) but hurt them in years prior. 2002 carlos boozer got fouled on a put back at the buzzer that didn't get called in the sweet 16 vs Indiana and JJ Redick was fouled on his drive down 1 to UCONN in 04 final four that wasn't called. This stuff evens out but unfortunately people only remember the instances that help their own agenda. If Duke had thrown up that airball and putback instead of UCF and the call wasn't overturned on replay then people would be going nuts. Instead nobody is talking about itrambone 78 wrote: ↑5 years agoDoes anyone think that if the roles were reversed, that an offensive foul would have been called on UCF?steviep123 wrote: ↑5 years ago Duke committed an uncalled offensive foul right before the 5th foul on Tacko.

Re: Games of Interest - Post Season Play
The biggest thing with these Duke/blue blood games is the fact that teams CHOKE and the ball just bounces their way more often than not. (Like the Dawkins tip)
That just happens when you're a winner.
By the way, I was incredibly impressed with UCF.
I think it be wise, as a team in a similar disposition as them to try and emulate the type of team they have.
Now they do have more resources than us over all, but they're practically a mid major like us.
They had the perfect formula for taking on big time teams like Duke.
Size and shooting.
Yes they had an anomaly in Tacko Fall, but they had multiple guys 6'8-6'9 and above who were serviceable.
Their shooters were on point as well.
If we are going to do the things we want to do like make deep tournament runs, we have to be able to knock down threes and not get bullied down low.
Against Duke last year, we were embarrassingly over matched.
Our shooters werent good enough to make up for our lack of size and we had a way over matched timid Berry and Cyril.
We have to be able to get guys who can shoot. We need guys who can hold their own down low.
Seems obvious, but just something I was thinking about during the game.
Also, UCF was full of redshirt seniors and juniors. Lots of experience helped them.

I hope this isn't a trend, but this tournament is a chalkfest.
Lots of good close games especially the first round, but not many upsets.
The seedings for the most part were on point.
No mid majors to be seen in the final 16. Unless you count Gonzaga...but I don't.

Re: Games of Interest - Post Season Play
I don’t think the Zion potential offensive foul or the Barrett push in the back were blatant bad calls
Could they have been called yes but refs do tend to swallow their whistle late in games
And yes it does seem Duke usually gets the calls at the end

Best game I’ve seen in the post season just ended, or at least ties the Duke - UCF game
Lipscomb beat NC State 94-93 at NCState
Garrison Mathews was great for Lipscomb with career high 44 points with NC State fans screaming
Most amazing was with a couple minutes to go Mathews hits a 3 with 2 NC State guys running at him to block it! Crazy thing was he hit the shot and refs had to stop the game immediately because there was blood pouring down his right arm. But no foul was called
Winner goes to NY so it was a crazy game. Fans were wild. Game got physical. Technical fouls, warnings to coaches.

St John's flamed out on a neutral court in the First Four Play In game.
Meanwhile Lipscomb has won THREE road games in the NIT winning at its regional's #4 Davidson, #1 UNCG, and #2 NCSU. Now on to MSG.
Also of note - Lipscomb won early OOC games at both SMU and TCU.

I live about a quarter mile from the Lipscomb campus in Nashville and went to the Atlantic Sun final between Lipscomb and Liberty. It was a great game against two pretty evenly matched teams. Lipscomb had a bunch of chances to win it and couldn't hit a shot when it came down to crunch time.RF1 wrote: ↑5 years agoSt John's flamed out on a neutral court in the First Four Play In game.

Going 0-2 against Belmont this year was likely the nail in the coffin. That said, if they split the series it's very likely both Lipscomb and Belmont would have been heading for the NIT...just not enough chances to snag meaningful wins for mid-majors.

Mathew Garrison was very impressive against NC State with his 44 points. I was also impressed by the Head Coach for Lipscomb. He had some very good plays called coming out of time outs. Very well coached team.
St Johns flamed out the last 3 weeks of the season, never deserved an NCAA invite.
