The 2019 Coaching Carousel
It is that time of the year where many D1 college coaches get fired or move onto new jobs.
These sites keep tabs on the coaching changes:
https://www.coachesdatabase.com/basketb ... usel-2019/
https://watchstadium.com/news/up-to-dat ... 3-11-2019/
Some URI associated people have already been affected - Al Skinner resigning at Kennesaw State and Tyson Wheeler may need a new job with Syndey Johnson being fired at Fairfield.

Speaking of guys with URI connections, my guess is Jim Christian will be out at BC after they bow out of the ACC Tournament.

If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

Hmm interesting. I wonder if our guy in Missouri could be in trouble?? Can’t imagine UMass is in a position to move on from McCall at this point.

Re: 2019 Coaching Carousel
In my opinion, here are the A-10 coaches that are absolutely safe, barring either retirement, a move to another school, or some sort of not-yet-reported scandal:
McKillop, Davidson
Grant, Dayton
Dambrot, Duquesne
Howard, La Salle
Cox, Rhode Island
Schmidt, St. Bonaventure
Rhoades, VCU
That's only half the league, so a lot of question marks. Anyone else could be on the hot seat (some more likely than others, obviously).

Curious why we have a new thread?
Normally I’m not a fan of zombie threads but the Ramster thread has been continuously active and is one of the most viewed/ responded to threads in forum history. Further, I find it awesome to flip through and find our posters takes, flips and flops over multiple seasons. Ramster The Coaching Carousel is one of my all time favorite Internet forum threads.
I just noticed this one and I call bad take. Why mess with a legend?
IMHO only of course....but I don’t want to see it stop. Keep the original rolling I say!

Re: 2019 Coaching Carousel
The A10 has to have the least experience in Head Coaches in D1. Which is why this conference is so down. We have 2 coaches in their 1st year, 4 in their 2nd, 2 in their 3rd and 2 in their 4th. That's 10 out of the 14 Head Coaches in the league. The outliers are Mooney, McKillop, Schmidt and Martelli.

The original has 104 pages and a lot of history posts.
Depends on If we want annual threads to start over each year.
I like the “where are they now” to be ongoing and not start over each year.

Re: 2019 Coaching Carousel
I’m agnostic on the coaching carousel threads. As long as we have at least one, people can post where they want, and I’m fine to let the market decide here.

Stepping stone league unfortunately.
Have a few good years and boom, off to the P5 schools.

I can appreciate annual carousel threads. Easier to go back and read year-specific info. I’d vote for moving on to this one.

Did you intend to create a new Coaching Carousel Thread after we have kept the same one going for a couple years now with over 5000 posts?
Or did you just forget we had an ongoing thread?
It’s easy to forget a thread already exists when they get stale after all the Coaching changes happen.
But the original Coaching Carousel was again active again when you decided to create a new one for some reason.
Either way seems foolish to have two....so your call.
I prefer the original but if you and the mods want annual Coaching Carousel threads then I’d suggest locking the original to avoid confusion, duplicate posting and what looks like now a weird competition.
I disagree with TP saying “let the market decide”. Just make a decision that’s all and move on.

The Tweet of the Image of the Tweet has been deleted now. The tweet was from A10 Talk saying, "Hmmm this tweet was posted and deleted 43 seconds later" with the image of another tweet from (I can't remember whom) saying, that Fordham fired their coach.

Re: 2019 Coaching Carousel
If Richmond fires Mooney they will owe him 3.6 million, per the A10 board.
He signed one of those CFL deals a few year ago, with a few more years left as of now.
Some are saying he'll get one more year...they expect to be better next season...we'll see.

Re: 2019 Coaching Carousel
The stupidest thing Fordham ever did was leave the Patriot League. Their administration expects them to recruit Ivy-caliber students who can play Atlantic-10 basketball but without the cachet and facilities of an Ivy League school. And there will always be some coach with a big enough ego to think he can win there, even though he'll have one had tied behind his back.

The other thread has 192K views! There can be zero question it has driven tons of traffic to the forums. Just seemed obvious to me that it was a good thing. Oh well nobody hit like on my comment so I guess I'm the only one who likes the zombie Coaching Carousel thread vs a new one.

Maybe Oats has found his happy place and intends to stay forever...like McKillop?
If Cox does here what Oats has done there, it would be nice if he does the same thing.
Some guys might not want the big stage...for whatever reasons. One thing's for sure, moving up to the big time has it's perks, but it doesn't always work out. Ask Shaka Smart. Texas didn't hire him to be a bubble team every year.
