Walking around at half time... not a single concession stand had food ready. How is that possible?

With popcorn, pretzels, and 4 people?
You couldn't pay me to eat the concession food at the RC. The food in the Alumni Lounge that I've had is a step up, but guess I'd rather see the money go to the program rather than a better selection of chicken salad for a wheat wrap.

Northeastern, which plays both basketball and hockey at the 100+ year old Matthews Arena has wanted a new center video scoreboard upgrade for several years. It however could not do so until technology was able to decrease the weight of such a device allowing for an acceptable amount of stress on the ceiling/roof structure. They recently installed a new 50 foot long center video Daktronics scoreboard at a cost of over 3M.

What we have looks so much better. Having a big behemoth like that in the RC would be an eyesore.

Something between that and what we have now would be nice. Separately, I think we miss out on so much opportunity by not having replay.

An over-the-court scoreboard is not per se bad, but the thing should fit the building you’re playing in. The Northeastern thing looks out of place, both in terms of size and busy-ness for the arena that it’s in.

An over the court scoreboard was in the original plans but with cost cutting plans they lowered the roof some 10-15 feet which did away with the plans for an over the court scoreboard.

I like the current set up, but would still like to see replays. The right replay during a timeout can get a crowd wound.
Nother first world problem is that one of the few times I'd look up to try to see some stats is during free throws and all of the display boards have an ad.

I sit in section 211. I love it but the one negative is that I can't see the big scoreboard. That shows current stats like points and fouls. The smaller one doesn't have the stats.

The smaller scoreboard isn’t visible from the upper sections. Can’t stand that.

I agree with the comment on the board ads during free throws. That is the time I look at the stats as well. Check on player fouls, points etc. I find myself looking all over the RC every free throw for the stats. That needs to change back. Unless the sponsor is paying LARGE sums of donor cash. Then I can live with it.

Re: Ryan Center In-Game Experience - Issues and Upgrades
With video aspect ratios changing since the original Ryan Center construction, I bet you could fit a nice landscape style board at a high enough elevation now. Replays should be a given at any venue now. Fans can stream almost any game fairly easily. By perceiving they are actually missing out on basic parts of the game by attending in person, fans (non-diehard/non-ST holders) are bound to just watch from the comfort of their own home instead.
Professional leagues have been bandying about unique in-person features to motivate fans to attend and pull them away from TV given the saturation of coverage. One idea in the NFL was to have special frequencies where fans could opt to tune in to live coach and player audio during game play. Gone are the days where teams can be satisfied with rolling out some timeout contests and leaving it at that...

Re: Ryan Center In-Game Experience - Issues and Upgrades
As good as the rest of our arena is, our scoreboard game is very weak between too many seats not being able to see the board and it being underutilized. Supposedly we have the same technology as the TD Garden and the NCAA doesn't ban replays (not sure about an A10 rule), so no idea why we don't have replays

It’s the latter. They sell that advertising space and companies specifically request all of that signage.theblueram wrote: ↑5 years ago I agree with the comment on the board ads during free throws. What would be great is if they actually had suitable, working, 21st century WiFi in the arena so we could check the stats on our phones.

Re: Ryan Center In-Game Experience - Issues and Upgrades
We talk about this every game, too. It makes it seem like whoever is managing this doesn’t understand the game. Put the ads somewhere else - there is a lot of digital real estate in the building, don’t hide the stats during the break in the action when people can actually look without missing something on the court.theblueram wrote: ↑5 years ago I agree with the comment on the board ads during free throws. LOL the ID checkers love having that bit of authority to demand that the wristband goes on your left wrist. Since both of the pubs have been opened I've never once seen someone act out of line or ridiculous.
Also, do not get me started on the WiFi issue. I am rarely on LTE inside there, nothing on text, Twitter, Snap, or IG goes through until after I leave the RC.

Changing the subject, I noticed that the "Ryan Center DJ" took over some of what Nikki was handling the past few games. Has she been benched?

Interesting... I haven't heard anything on social media on what's going on with that, but I noticed it too. Maybe it's because it's winter break? But I did see her post-game report on Twitter.

Re: Ryan Center In-Game Experience - Issues and Upgrades
I just remembered something. Due to the students being on break they had some band alums playing (from what I could see) last Sunday. They played some pretty lame songs, such as Yankee Doodle during a timeout. I think you could only get lamer by playing Old McDonald or Ring Around the Rosie. The actual current student pep band sincerely needs to upgrade their playlist — I know I’ve said it before, but Game of Thrones theme song? Not basketball game music IMO.

I don't mind the Game of Thrones music as it's dramatic and at least relatively current. I may not be the primary target demographic, however.

I agree with you on that; the song is at least from this millennium. However, I know I am in the minority when I say I’ve never once been able to get into that show.ATPTourFan wrote: ↑5 years ago I don't mind the Game of Thrones music as it's dramatic and at least relatively current. I'm still waiting for the announcer upgrade, but have a feeling it might be a while. My ear drums have never been abused as bad as they have the last few years with York at the helm.

For the band them (and really most other bands in the country) need to take cues and lessons from the VCU and George Mason's bands, arguably the best around.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before ... but what's up with the rap music they sometimes play during pregame and the multiple F-bombs? I'm no prude, but I don't think it's appropriate for children or grandparents.
