Re: 11/6 | Bryant Bulldogs | 7:00PM
For those statistical mavens, here is a summary of opening game attendance, opponent, game score and final season record for each year since the Ryan center opened. URI has lost only one opener and that was to Norfolk State in Hurley's first season. The smallest opening crowd was for Hofstra in 2011, Baron's disastrous final season. Ex the D2 Pace opener in 2014, the last six home openers have all exceeded 5000.
2018 Nov. 6 Bryant 2017 Nov. 10 UNC Asheville 6,357 W, 84-60 26-8 2016 Nov. 11 Dartmouth 6,052 W, 84-61 24-9 2015 Nov. 13 American 5,089 W, 65-42 17-15 2014 Nov. 14 Pace 4,210 W, 94-54 23-10 2013 Nov. 8 Maine 5,410 W, 92-77 14-18 2012 Nov. 9 Norfolk State 5,045 L, 55-67 8-21 2011 Nov. 25 Hofstra 3,220 W, 85-73 7-23 2010 Nov. 16 Brown 4,711 W, 92-67 20-14 2009 Nov. 22 Holy Cross 4,080 W, 78-57 26-10 2008 Nov. 14 Brown 5,859 W, 76-74 22-9 2007 Nov. 9 FL. I think the original post was a comic reference as the person that was charged with throwing a full beer can at Alex Cora at the Red Sox parade on Wednesday was a Bryant student.Taylor Swift wrote: ↑5 years agoLOL! Interesting- the numbers are a little higher than I would have guessed. I dug a little deeper and saw that the last 3 openers were on a Friday night- that doesn’t hurt at all.Obadiah wrote: ↑5 years ago For those statistical mavens, here is a summary of opening game attendance, opponent, game score and final season record for each year since the Ryan center opened. This is probably the earliest start to the season ever.
I'm not complaining at all.
You'd hope the team has gained enough casual fans to draw a crowd close to 6k after the last two seasons.

Add onto last year the celebration of the first NCAA appearance in 18 years.
I don’t see 6,000 for Tuesday night. My guess is 5,200.
I hope the students show up in big numbers.
I don’t understand why we can’t get 1,500 students for every weekday game. Just walk down the hill.
There are 14,700 ungrads in Kingston with 7,000 living on campus (dorms & greek life).
And a large population living down the line.

Bases on the stats above, the trend is our friend. Hopefully the numbers continue to trend higher. I was at URI in the first years of the Ryan center (caught a few at Keaney too). I remember catching a few games in the upper deck after class and seeing ~500 people there. Remember watching fans cheer for Woodward and Robinson and heckle Dustin Helegna. We’ve come a long way since then.

Lmao I had classes with Hellenga! He sunk that nice trey at the buzzer against USC at the first game at the Ryan Center. By far his URI legacy.SandorClegane wrote: ↑5 years ago Bases on the stats above, the trend is our friend. Hopefully the numbers continue to trend higher. Back then the guys could live off campus after freshman year and I remember he had a Bull Mastiff sophomore year before he transferred.

I remember him constantly shooting fade-away threes. Baron would look at him like he had three heads.
I forgot Hellegna left early.. did he play anywhere after Rhody?
Sorry to divert the topic.

He was let go by Baron due to his lack of academic achievement the end of the 04 season if I recall. He went back to VA but doubt he played anywhere after that. Did a quick Google search and couldn’t find anything.

I think people will be pleasantly surprised with tomorrow’s attendance. There were around 4000 for Pace for an exhibition. People are still on the band wagon. I’m guessing over six.

I'm bummed that this game is on election day. I'm going for the first half but have friends running for some local seats and will take off early to (hopefully) celebrate their victories.

Re: 11/6 | Bryant Bulldogs | 7:00PM
Where did you get the attendance number for the Pace game? No way there were 4,000 people there.
I am guessing that every season ticket holder and every 5 game plan (they gave 2 free vouchers) were counted. There were a lot of no shows.

Re: 11/6 | Bryant Bulldogs | 7:00PM
I couldn't believe that number, so I looked at the box score, and sure enough they have 4058 listed as the attendance, though obviously not nearly that many people were there. Really speaks to the improved season ticket base, because there weren't a lot of students at that one. We shouldn't have a game below 4500 all year based on that Pace number, and with any kind of student support we shouldn't be below 5000 when they're on campus.
Edited to add that I didn't know they gave out free vouchers to that one for mini plan holders. Changes my thinking quite a bit

That number was mentioned in the Coach's Show on Tuesday by Steve when asking questions from Coach Cox. He said that was the listed attendance number and said that is a good number for an exhibition game. Coach cox followed it up by agreeing.

Here's a link to Bryant's notes for tomorrow's game:

Stone Freeman has the call for ESPN+ and CoxYurView. Jon Wallach, of the Toucher and Rich show has the radio call for Bryant. We've never played them when they were the Bryant University Bulldogs, back in the 80's they were known as the Bryant College Indians.

Unfortunately I am not a beer drinker, but this is a fantastic move. I saw on Shaidzon's IG that you can get Tilly's delivered there, too. Another place I haven't checked out yet.

My bookie has it at Rhody -24. KenPoms model shows it as Rhody winning by 17. I think i'll be betting Bryant +24, that is a very big number to cover with all the roster turnover and is probably based on last years abysmal Bryant team and a great rhody team.

There will be bigger tests. If we’re going to rely on them, Bryant is as good of a time to get their feet wet as any.

Blurb on ticket sales:
Tickets are moving at the Ryan Center as well. URI season tickets are up 16 percent over last year. That’s the second straight season of at least a 15-percent jump. URI averaged 6,217 fans in its 7,600-seat building, good for a 1,500-seat spike from just two years earlier.
Even if the season average goes up this season, total overall attendance is almost certainly destined to decrease with two less Ryan Center home games (versus last season).

ESPN+ is online only paying $5 monthly. You can only get it by paying ESPN for it.
ESPN3 comes with you cable subscription. Both stream from WatchESPN

Also the A10 board is saying that ESPN+ is blacking out locally for Dayton games because they are on TV too.
Does yurview even count as being on TV since only Cox has it? Curious if we ever have a blackout.

I signed up for the free 7 day trial earlier for ESPN+, I'm watching the Wisconsin GB vs Wisconsin Lutheran game now on my lunch break and got to say, the streaming quality is pretty good. It def the local W-GB announcers, but everything else is ESPN, event the score of the fame at the bottom is the ESPN template you would see on games on cable.

I just signed up for ESPN+. I’m glad I didn’t wait to the last minute. At first I didn’t remember my pin and then my credit card information needed to be updated online. It took about 10 minutes.
