Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
It will be interesting to see how their 2019 class affects Cole Swider's playing time next year.
Between the 2018 and 2019 classes, there are eight Top 100 guys - and four of them are SG/SF types.
They also have 3 former Top 100 guys as sophomores, too.
This last player is more of a low block guy, but there are only 200 minutes to share.

Cole was top 50 himself. Range to 25 feet or so. He'll play plenty.rhodyblue12 wrote: ↑5 years ago It will be interesting to see how their 2019 class affects Cole Swider's playing time next year.

Harvard is doing an unbelievable job with recruiting. URI should be scheduling them every year on a home and home. They had some injuries the last couple of years, but are getting top 200 players regularly and many times top 100. They also have a 6-5 small forward ranked 131 in this class. This would be the number one class in the A-10

Some kids see a life after basketball. A Harvard degree will take them a bit farther.

Damn, i just looked at their 2018 & 2019 commits on 247...I guess I was sleeping a bit. I knew they were talented, had the injury bug the past few seasons, but what Amaker has and is compiling there is really impressive, quite a few 4* and 3*RamStock wrote: ↑5 years ago Harvard is doing an unbelievable job with recruiting. The Ivies have appeal to some kids and more should take advantage. If you’re in the 100-200 range the Ivies are a better bet than most other schools long term. We should definitely play Harvard every year it’s a good match

Ledlum is a very nice player, and was a late bloomer. I remember being at Gauntlet in June and the Ark Little Rock staff was all over him and felt they had a good chance bc they were the first ones giving him attention, sound familiar. Later that weekend he was already getting looks from Georgetown and Illinois and it blew up from there. Smart player, great build, can shoot it and go to the hole. Gonna be a big impact guy in the Ivy.

Yeah but I wonder his head is at. Four high schools and now wants to transfer after his first college game? Doesn’t sound like he’d be happy anywhere.Rhody83 wrote: ↑5 years ago Interesting transfer prospect.

I think the coach is encouraging a transfer. May have recruited over him for next year. I agree about all the schools in 4 years.

Watching Villanova’s PG Collin Gillespie who was a 3* PG with a weak list of offers (Maine, Fairleigh Dickinson, Albany) proves rankings mean diddly squat. If you can play, you play.

1:45 Scotland vs MacDuffie. Scotland has Coulibaly and MacDuffie has ‘20 recruit Richie Springs.
3:15 Woodstock vs Massanutten. Woodstock is loaded w D1 prospects and Rhody has a pipeline to Massanutten (Martin & Long). They have a really good ‘20. I am guessing Rhody coaches will be there

http://www.providencejournal.com/sports ... -sign-nlisHammond and Mading are each two-star options while Long is rated a three-star recruit according to composite rankings compiled by Verbal Commits.
Verbal Commits Composite Ranking? Even if someone stumbled on this without knowing any better, you would only have to read the footnote to see that it is not updated along with the fact that 1/3 of the composite is Scout which doesn't even exist anymore. Anyway, both Hammond and Mading are 3 stars on both Rivals and 247 Sports (the only 2 ratings which are usable at this point). In fact, Hammond is higher on 247 and in Rivals position rankings than Long.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
The projo is a joke. Literally no effort is put into any of the work that they do on that sports page. No research, editing, fact checking or insightful information we already do not know. If you read the projo once a day you would find serious errors in every article and every sports page. These errors show up on a daily basis, from grammatical errors to improper spacing. Or even proper scores being listed or accurate game times. It comes across as half a** material but yet continue to raise prices. I liked Koch initially but seems like the projo ways have gotten to him. How long does it take to correctly list a players ratings and high school they will attend for their senior year? Especially seeing how this is their livelihood. No insightful opinions about the games. Used to read the paper once a day. Now it has become like pulling teeth to read through one article due to grammatical or factual errors consistently making it an unreliable source of information. Especially, with Will G and Chris d as stiff competition and a great alternative.

This year will tell a lot. Swider is not off to a great start and there is a lot of competition currently but then next year the class is loadedBillyboy78 wrote: ↑5 years agoCole was top 50 himself. Game 1: Morgan State: 13 min, 1-6 FG, 0-4 on 3FG, 1-2 FT
Game 2: Quinnipiac: 11 min, 0-5 FG, 0-2 on 3FG, fouled out in 11 minutes
Game 3: Michigan: 15 min, 2-3 FG, 0-1 on 3FG, 1-3 FT
Game 4: Furman: 7 min, 1-2 FG, 1-2 on 3FG
So a combined: 4-16 FG for 25%, 1-9 on 3 FG for 11%, 2-5 on FT for 40%
It's early but a shooter like Swider needs to shoot it. Lot's of players current and future who will be fighting for playing time

Can we sit on this last opening and wait for a high level transfer mid-season or even after the season. We’ll have more opportunities at high major talent at that point in time.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
Just thinking about recruiting as I drive (actually ride, no worries) north for Thanksgiving. There’s something fun and energizing about beating out an ACC or BE team for a player, but it obviously doesn’t really matter as long as the guys a team gets are good.
What we have to look at is rankings and other offers a player gets. There are always examples of under-recruited guys who end up as stars and guys who out perform or under perform relevant to their rankings. The three guys they signed have decent enough rankings but not many other great offers. I think this staff overall is good and qualified, and so are many other staffs. The nature of recruiting talk is we’re making judgements on something that we won’t have enough information to talk about in an informed manner for a couple years. And yet, we persist!

This kid just had a great game against Virginia as a Fr. He had no offers his Sr year of high school and did a year of prep. He grew 4 inches in high school to 6’9”. The point is kids can develop all different times and ratings mean nothing. This kid will be A10 first team all Freshmen.

That was in 2017. He sat out last year at Dayton as an academic redshirt. He is a redshirt Freshmen this year.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑5 years ago I thought we didn't take him because he was an academic risk. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember.
He graduated HS in 2016. He had only played one year of varsity basketball. He was 6’2” as a Jr and 6’5” as a Sr.
He did a year of prep at Mt Zion in MD. Finished there at 6’8. Had academic problems but Dayton took him.
He is a 20 year old Freshmen and now 6’9”. He will be 21 years old in March.

We didn't take him because he wasn't going to be ready to contribute that year. There were mixed emotions on the staff with him but everyone thought the skill set was there he was just a few years out. By all accounts he wanted to be a Rhode Island Ram. We instead took Ryan Preston.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑5 years ago I thought we didn't take him because he was an academic risk. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember.
