URI should be reaching out to Pawsox Corporate Sponsors
Now that the Pawsox have decided to abandon the state and its longtime fans, many of its local corporate sponsorships will be ending. I would think many local sponsors would wisely decide to terminate their relationships with the team after this season to avoid being associated with the fallout from its departure and bad feelings of the local population to it. URI Athletics and Learfield should immediately begin reaching out to Pawsox sponsors about corporate partnerships with a sports team that will forever be committed to the state and its residents. Local corporate sponsorship money may become available in weeks and URI should move on it.

As terrible as this situation is, this would ease the pain to an extent if possible.

absolutely.
Also, the state should just give URI the $$ to complete the athletics infrastructure after this debacle.
Just give,no vote.

Don’t we wish it would be that easy! Certainly not a bad idea to contact the “former” Pawsox sponsors. Increased revenue is what URI need for all its sports programs. I bet that many would-be sponsors already have deals with URI.

The politicians "talk" about education. But they say nothing about the 8% they contribute to the flagship University. All talk, no action. How about the state contribute 30% of the URI budget? Crickets.

With URI's new LED ribbon board, it is easy to get those names added. Sign them up if they are not already partners.

AMICA makes a ton of sense. RI based, national insurance company.

U.R.I. would need to try to copy the Pawsox programs. My company had 4 season tickets and as a low end sponsor you got 2 Luxury box events per year. The luxury box sponsors get the barbecue tent for their guests for several events plus, plus, plus. Does The Ryan center even have those capabilities? Not trying to be a jerk I honestly don't know?

The Pawsox played 70 home games making something like that more doable. URI basketball plays just 15-16 home games per year. It should however try to leverage the luxury box and alumni lounge more for sponsors. There are many early season URI games where many of the boxes are empty so there may possibly be some opportunity there.

Who sells these sponsorships for us? The athletic department? The Ryan Center? A third party?

Don't forget Benny's, Fleet and Almac's. They were all big Pawsox sponsors back in the day. This thread is beyond moronic. I'm sure Learfield is continually canvasing for sponsorships on a daily basis for all of their sports properties and Daryl Jasper who works for Learfield previously worked for the Pawsox. My guess is that they have it covered.

It is not moronic. URI may always be doing general canvassing but probably never before specifically targeted a list of the sponsors of the Pawsox.

Re: URI should be reaching out to Pawsox Corporate Sponsors
So what you are saying is that based on this thread, they will reach out to Pawsox sponsors. First of all, the team is there for at least 2 more years and secondly the assumption that Learfield has never had contact with any of the Pawsox sponsors is absurd. Learfield also handles PC Sports properties so from purely a geographic perspective, they have probably had contact with these companies already. Additionally, PC is back on a local station with new opportunities, so I'm sure they are actively pursuing new sponsorships. I believe our athletic department has really stepped up their game the past few years in attracting more statewide and national sponsors and have moved on from many South County businesses. Because of our location, there will always alot of local business activity, but that appears to be heavier with in game promotions.

It is going to be a rather ugly existence for the Pawsox at McCoy in the next two years. I would think many corporate sponsors will not want to be associated with the taint of their moving and drop their partnership at the end of this season. With there sure to be a big drop in attendance and all the bad feelings, sponsorships with the Pawsox will not be what they once were worth in both cost and benefit.

Re: URI should be reaching out to Pawsox Corporate Sponsors
Agreed, but is a thread necessary to state the obvious? Advertising sales are full of vultures and I'm sure most of the Pawsox sponsors have been contacted prior to Friday's announcement. Very similar to Hurley's deal. An agreement was in place long before it was announced.

Pretty sure the Learfield team who handles sponsorships is completely competent in who is the correct fit. I can tell you I would not want Twin River or the foolish Heavy Hitter (Rob Levine) associated with URI.
