Game write-up says that Wes Clark left the game with a knee injury. It would be a shame if either team wasn't at full strength for Tuesday.

Romulus leads Pershing 43-41 at the half. EC has 18. So far, this game is as advertised.

Now in the 4th quarter with Romulus up 78-73
EC Mathews had 11 in the 1st quarter, 7 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd and I think 6 so far in the 4th
Very fast paced game and Mathews excels in this type of game

90-88 Romulus with the lead and the ball with 11 seconds to go - Romulus can't get the ball inbounds so they call timeout

Pershing steals the ball on the inbounds pass, Romulus fouls. Darsean Woodson hits the first, missed the second so 90-89 Romulus now. Pershing fouls. EC Mathews to the line. EC Hits both FTs to go up 92-89 with 4 seonds to go.
Pershing hits, EC fouled again. EC Missed the first, hits the second now 93-91.
Pershing misses a 3 for the win that hits the Rim.

EC Mathews leads Romulus to a 93-91 victory over previoously undefeated Detroit Pershing (25-0) and currently 14th Nationally in the USA Today High School Rankings.
What a game and what a player we are getting in EC Mathews.

Romulus now plays the winner of Grand Rapids Christian Boys and Muskegon on Friday, March 22 at 1pm in the Breslin Center

This win will put Romulus into the USA Top 25 in the nation. Romulus' only loss was early in December to the same team - Detroit Pershing. They should win on Friday afternoon and get to the State Class A Championship Game. Pershing was the top team in the State - was.

I think he'll be starting by league play, if not earlier. The Italy trip is so huge, figuring practice probably starts in July. So by league play, these kids will be playing together for 6 months with coaching allowed to be present, about 3 months earlier than usual. He's too good to be sitting for long.

If any other of Dan's 4 year recruits going forward, are as good as these first 2 look like they'll be, watch out.

Grand Rapids Christian boys beat Muskegon tonight so they will play Romulus at 1pm Friday in the semi finals.
Grand Rapids is led by a phenomenal junior 6'4" drake Harris. Harris can score and Romulus will have to slow him down. Harris just recently decommitted from Michigan state for football. He is an all American wide receiver in the class of 2014. Ohio state, Florida and Alabama all want him for football among other schools.

I drove over a hundred miles to Detroit to watch this game and it was well worth it. I have watched EC five times this year and it appears that he can't be stopped. EC can change directions on a dime and that keeps the defenders on their heels. Can't wait until friday's game!

Miramfan,
I saw EC play this past summer against strong AAU competition and would agree with several assessments that he plays well in the vow of he games, but the past month orzo he seems to be taking the team on his back more. I like EC better than Wes Clark. His AAU coach liked to play a lot of guys. What do you think?
What college coaches and assistants did you see at tonight's games? Are outgoing to the game on Friday? How full was the building? Thank you

I also like EC's game better than West's game. I like EC's game more than any other guard in the state and I have seen all of the top guards..
There were a lot of people in the arena so I did not observe any coaches. I would guess that there was approximately 6,000 people there. I will be at the game on Firday also.

from the article:

But E.C. Matthews scored 37 points for Romulus, including six straight points in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter to ice the game.

“We listened to coach Oats, he was leading us and kept telling us all the right things,” Matthews said. “So we just worked extra hard to stay focused.”

“He (Matthews) had probably the most efficient 37 points I have ever seen,” Majerle said. “Tough matchup, (he’s) just very athletic.”
