Talent wise I don't think we're last.
Shows what the others think of the coaching though, imo.

URI will likely have to prove that they are not the worst team in the conference every season before anyone picks them to finish anywhere other than last.

Can Fleming complete his journey with a perfect record ... 5 preseason polls as the last place team and 5 actual seasons in last place? I bet he can get it done!

Re: Football media day Tuesday 7/24
We weren't in last place last year, William & Mary went winless.
I think the tough thing is, if Fleming is going to have a winning season here, it's this year. It's his 5th year, it's hard to see recruiting getting better if there are no results on the field. He's got his guys in place with experience. I think this is the only year of his tenure where we've been set at quarterback going into the year. After this year Lawson and Harris are gone and you're starting from essentially scratch with guys who have never played or trying to get an FBS transfer. Plus you can't discount the possibility that Fleming is gone after this year with a losing record. They fired Trainor with one year left on his deal after a 3-9 season.
Realistically, if we don't have our first winning season since 2001 this year we probably won't have one until 2020 or 2021 at the absolute earliest

Heard Rhody had top recruit from SC on campus yesterday?
Heard he liked it?
I don't get the "nobody wants to go to school there"?
The "talent" is not there.
Game day coaching in FB and BB (2 of last 3 coaches) has been flat out terrible.

Re: Football media day Tuesday 7/24
Does “SC” mean South County? Or South Carolina?
With all due respect it sucks to see Rhody picked last or second to last all the dam time. No way can this team even compare to James Madison or William & Mary. Those schools actually spend money on football.
There is not a coach or players that will change this.
Rhody football is maybe 15 years behind all the top schools in the CAA. I blame the administration for not having a plan and not even putting a dime into the football program.
There is no way Rhody is the 1st choice for any recruit. Rhody is the school they come to after there first 3 choices fall through.
Once again it’s not on the coaches or players even the die hard fans that show up no matter what for the 5-6 Saturday’s in the fall. It’s on the administration. Would they ever let there basketball program be run like this? Don’t think so.

Rhodysk-The SK means South Kingstown-I assume?
So you know Freselli who just committed. He is as legit an FCS prospect on the east coast as there is.

One significant project the admin. got involved in was the Ryan Center. What could did it do so long as Baron was there at $700K per year??
The program actually got worse until Hurley came along. Look at the west side stands and then Stowers and Trainer.
No wonder people are skeptical about giving. Stop making excuses. Too many enablers.

Rhodysk, I agree.
Yes, facilities are not everything, but football facilities are below what most Div II schools have, below the facilities of all the schools in the Northeast Conference, worst facilities in CAA, and worse than most high schools in RI, except for maybe North Providence High School.

OBram-yes,it is important. I donate and fund raise. There has been a dramatic increase in talent since the new SADC.
But,where has significant improvements helped winning at Rhody??
Start with the Ryan Ctr.?
The team was better in Keaney !!!

I think if URI basketball did not have the Ryan Center and still played in Keaney, URI would not have been in NCAA tournament. Facilities are not everything, but it is an arms race and you need to compete in the arms race. It has to be a lot easier recruiting someone who comes to the Ryan Center and sees 7,000 people cheering. URI has an arms race with Towson, UAlbany, Stony Brook all have much much better stadiums. How do we get the New Jersey and New York recruits?

Re: Football media day Tuesday 7/24
Nowadays facilities ARE just about everything.
Kids want to go where they can be seen nationally and programs that have nice facilities and rabid fan bases.....
They also want to be pampered with nice things like their own practice facilities.
URI football occasionally gets a diamond in the rough....but most better recruits go elsewhere. URI is a place to get playing time if they are 2nd or 3rd tier types....and if they turn out to be good players, they end up wanting to leave and play at a bigger and better program.

Rambone-occasionally? ? Catalina,Steinmetz,Boyd? They are not even 1st team all league.
Parker,Beauvais-(Might be NFL'er)??
Ginnetti?? Andrew Bose??
That's a lot of talent over what 6 or 7 years?
Have you seen them play?
Some of these guys are among best ever at school.
Best in the country and league. That's like saying X.Munford and Brian Woodward did not have talent.

difference is the basketball team earned the facilities by winning.OBRAM wrote:I think if URI basketball did not have the Ryan Center and still played in Keaney, URI would not have been in NCAA tournament. Non-bowl level football will never make money to the level to build or rehab large stadia.....but we should make the facilities close to what our competitors have....

A 10-14,000 seat stadium is good for us and it's good for the state for us to have if used properly
