Re: '19 MD PF Karim Coulibaly
After watching that video had to look up the abbreviation "MLI" - apparently he is from Mali!
Looks like he can shoot it pretty well for a 6'9" kid.

Yeah, from what I've read, he's originally from Mali, lives in Maryland and goes to school in Pennsylvania.

Iggy is right- when I asked about him a few months ago, he was considered to be leaning towards St. Johns. Hope we can change that.

It can't be said enough about the job Cox and staff are doing to keep us in the mix with high level recruits. Making the cut line is the first hurdle. This kid, Walker, Bishop all have us in their final consideration set. Remarkable early returns on Coach Cox and staff.

Re: '19 MD PF Karim Coulibaly
I don’t think any of the three players you mentioned have made any cuts yet. It is still early. Also, if Rhody comes in 2nd that is really no different than not making the player’s cut.

Yes coming close doesn't get us anywhere, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take so even being in the mix is an accomplishment in and of itself. Throw our hat in the ring on enough 4-star kids and we are bound to land 1-2 a year. Which for an A10 program is about as good as it will get.

Re: '19 MD PF Karim Coulibaly
https://www.prephoops.com/2018/06/woods ... is-summer/Scotland Campus Sports’ Class of 2019 forward Karim Coulibaly was leaving Walmart in Chambersburg, Pa. when he stumbled upon a text message he won’t forget anytime soon. It was Rhode Island head coach David Cox, who offered him a scholarship and also said he anticipates watching the Mali, Africa native throughout his senior year.
Coulibaly, a hybrid forward with offers from Pitt, Providence, St. John’s, St. Joe’s Rutgers, South Florida, Virginia, Maryland, and countless others, embodies the multi-positional role. He’s 6-foot-9 with a smooth left-handed 3-point stroke.
He’s capable of guarding the 1-4. Now, working diligently under player development ace Sullivan Brown at Scotland Campus Sports, he’s developed a tight handle. The idea of him playing some point forward next season is not far-fetched one single iota.
Legendary prep coach Chris Chaney helped create a niche for Coulibaly where he utilized his face-up game and created mismatch issues.
Not bad for a kid who, just six years ago, was more focused on pursuing a soccer career.
“My older brothers and sister, they both played for the national team in basketball,” said Coulibaly, who recalls his friends constantly telling him his height is best suited for basketball and not soccer.
“They were doing things I never could have imagined. Traveling on airplanes and playing in tournaments in different countries.”

Coaches are two deep watching Coulibaly. Carroll is here. His team is down 14 ten minutes in. His only points are on a breakaway dunk. Looks like a good rebounder. Definitely a post/back to the basket player. College body already.

Comments from Zags article
UConn and Pitt are among a buffet line of coaches slated to see him next week.
“Right now it is St. Joe’s, Tulane, and Providence,” said Coulibaly of the programs he is hearing from the most. “It is really those three. I’d like to visit them soon and get a decision made before the season starts. That way I’ll have the decision out of the way and be able to focus solely on basketball throughout the season.”

Re: '19 MD PF Karim Coulibaly
But then the article ends with this?
“While St. Joe’s, Tulane, and Providence are jockeying for the position of front runner in his recruitment, Coulibaly said he’s wide open. While he ideally would like to make a decision before Nov.15, he said he’s weighing all options and potential Division-I destinations.”

Ace, I am guessing your quotes are for quoting Zags?
Zags headline for the article is “2019 foward Karim Coulibaly focusing on three schools”

I hear St. Joes is favorite to land him but URI in final 4.

Did he visit? If so, must have been a stealth visit...
Imagine if we land him....stranger things have happened.

Watching Coulibaly’s team against MacDuffie. I don’t think he would make it into URI’s rotation. I would pass on him.

UConn and Pitt chasing him hard, he must be a D1 player if Corey Evans is correct about that.

Re: '19 MD PF Karim Coulibaly
He clearly had a better game vs NMH the day before. What I noticed that I think would show up in any game. He is slow, wasn’t in good shape, didn’t rebound well, didn’t grasp staying away from fouls (he had two fouls in 3 minutes both he was trying to steal the ball from a Guard).
In the game against MacDufgie he went head-to-head against Richie Springs (‘20) who had 18 points & 13 rebounds and Tuscan Onuoha ‘22!). Onuoha did I good job covering Coulibaly and was 3-3 FG. Coulibaly had 5 points & 4 rebounds. He seems soft.

Certainly not doubting your assessment but if Pitt and UConn want him he sure seems worth a look.Rhody83 wrote: ↑5 years ago He clearly had a better game vs NMH the day before. Re: '19 MD PF Karim Coulibaly
UCONN has made offers to 41 players in the class of 2019. Karim Coulibaly is not one of them. Showing interest means nothing.
Pitt has made offers to 45 players including Coulibaly. He has not visited. Pitt has no commitments.
If he makes an official visit, I would say that is serious.

Re: '19 MD PF Karim Coulibaly
Not a lot of strong comments here. He reminded me of a lefty Andre Berry without the nice mid range shot.
He isn’t from the US. I don’t think he understands recruiting contacts very well. Schools text 50 players in a class each day.

I think he understands recruiting just fine. His gurdian runs a super successful AAU program and his prep school coach has sent over 120 players to the division 1 level. I remember watching his Laurinberg team play in keaney gym that featured 4 kids committed to Memphis and 16 D1 players. He has the right people in his corner, it’s not like he is navigating this process alone.
