He said it was sarcasm in the post. Didn’t even think he needed to include that, but since he did it is even crazier that it somehow got missed (or ignored?).MrRamsDen76 wrote:[I don't like recruiting kids who de-committed from other schools....]

The kid has what we used to call, back in the day, a "Big East" body. He looks the part.

Sad to see Adams change his mind, but I would be very happy with Omar as a replacement if we can get him. Especially this late in the year. Maybe he re opened his recruitment because he really liked URI but there believed there was a log jam at guard but when Adams decided to leave it opened up a spot again.

I consider his first signing keeping Harris. Many UConn fans were slobbering to get him.jcru wrote:I think this would be an impressive first signing of the David Cox era

Re: '18 NY G - Omar Silverio
This guy appears from his vid to be able to shoot the ball pretty well. What we
really need is a pure shooter to open up zone defenses so our slasher's can slash.
Any stats available on this guy? CT is fair and Fatts is streaky and Dowtin is inconsistent.
I thought martin was a good shooter but the only stats I can find says he shoots the
3 at around 25%. ( those stats are incomplete though) Like Rod said if you recruit your
guards for defense you don't usually get good shooters.

Re: '18 NY G - Omar Silverio
Rod's wisdom is missed.
If you picked players strictly on their ability to play Defense, which was incorporated here at the start of the Jim Baron era, and then continued with Dan Hurley, then:
No Cat
No Tyson
No Lamar
And Jim Baron couldn't even recruit his own son, Jim Jr.
So, kind of like the Buddy Ryan Chicago Bears, and the Rex Ryan NY Jets: it's great to have dominating Defense, but you still need to put points on the board.
This is why you need a couple of shoot-the-lights-out pure shooters, to keep the *other team's* Defense honest.
The best defense is a good offense... yada, yada, yada, and all of those fancy cliches, you know

I think we will see Cox recruit players who can do both......maybe not as good defensively but be better offensive threats....need that balance....and btw also be able to play a zone on defense and be better against a zone.
May not be a huge difference from DH's philosophy, but there definitely will be some.
And no more 4 guard offense either.

Re: '18 NY G - Omar Silverio
I agree with you, of course.
However, being a sixth man or seventh man isn't such a bad thing. This past year, we ran about 5 guards:
Mathews
Garrett
Terrell
Dowtin
Russell
We lost three of them. We have one coming in so far. Now, if we don't get one more, we are going to be very short in the depth department.
We could use Omar. We need to beat out the Bonnies for this guard.
That's why I was saying give the other schollie to the transfer, because it won't eat up their playing time in the short term, and it will strengthen the team. If not Beatty, then Mosley

lol, that's what I was saying. Having that much talent in this league is going to give Coach Cox a lot of room for error early on in his career. Go for it.

Uh, yeah.
This kid is from the Dominican. Kingston is practically Florida, compared to Olean.
Well, you know, not literally, but way better.

The most underrated thing about getting Silverio to URI would be four years of Omar Little memes.

It’s called good faith. I think he will be fine. He closed the deal with the ones remaining on the roster, they could’ve easily bolted and played immediately next year. Helluva closer in my book. I’ll accept the minor losses.Iggy1979 wrote:Actually we have no idea how good Cox is at closing.DC_Rams wrote:Knowing Cox, he’s likely going to have him in the bag this week.

Re: '18 NY G - Omar Silverio
We have a really good shot at Omar imo.
Then we need a grad transfer who can light it up from deep.
If not, then a high quality 2 year [or even 3] year transfer.

Gotta agree with DC_Rams, we know Cox closed on Fatts a week ago. And that was (supposedly) against Hurley, so he seems to be at least decent. Though admittedly it is different when the player isn't already on the roster.Iggy1979 wrote:Actually we have no idea how good Cox is at closing.DC_Rams wrote:Knowing Cox, he’s likely going to have him in the bag this week.

Yeah what DC does filling those last 2 spots will tell us something....and what he does this fall with at least 2-3 more openings for 2019.....

Re: '18 NY G - Omar Silverio
I actually think this 2019 class will be difficult to recruit for, mostly because on paper we don't have any starting positions open for the 2019-2020 season. That's a hard sell to a lot of recruits, could be a class very similar to the Thompson/Akele class, where we get role players.rambone 78 wrote:Yeah what DC does filling those last 2 spots will tell us something....and what he does this fall with at least 2-3 more openings for 2019.....

I feel like that would be an even tougher sell. If the issue is cracking the rotation in yr 1 or yr 2, then you'd think you'd have a much tougher time getting a 1 or 2 year player than a 4 year player.

Re: '18 NY G - Omar Silverio
Well probably, balancing out the classes could be an issue.
We should be loaded for bear in the 2019-20 season.
Ha ha the one and dones don't have to worry about this....there's always room for more 5 stars.....
Duke just lost Carter to the draft....that's their entire starting 5 from this season....and yet they will still be very good next season.
That continuing lack of experience is hurting them in the NCAA tourney though.....I likey that.....

Seriously, DH now has Smith from Duquesne and Adams to add to their guards from last year.....I think they have enough for now....they need bigs but it's a little late in the game to get anybody really good for next season that's a 4 year player....I think they only have one opening left anyway.
They will be like us last season, except less talented.

Re: '18 NY G - Omar Silverio
Admittedly different? It's massively, completely different. One guy has already played here a year, would have to sit out a year, and has a relationship with Cox and one guy hasn't been here, wouldn't have to sit out a year, and has the faintest of relationships with Cox. You absolutely can't conclude anything positive for Cox' closing skills based on the Fatts situation.Dre3000 wrote:Gotta agree with DC_Rams, we know Cox closed on Fatts a week ago.
