Every year I get excited that Rhody football is about to turn the corner. Every year I get sad because it doesn't happen. I just want to be happy.

Re: Rhody football talent
Just need 50 million or so.....hell just a new East Stands would be fine with me.
As for expectations....this is the year we need to be .500 or better....Fleming's job rides on it I think.
Should be no excuses....better talent, especially at QB....the key will be winning a few close games.

If I win the lottery, I'm donating for that stadium. With my name for the stadium of course.

That stadium coupled with RC would be big time as far as New England schools go. What an atmosphere you can imagine...it's within reach, just requires money and creativity.

Re: Rhody football talent
That Stadium design is now maybe 14 years old. I think Meade field is too small.
You need to have a place you can play football and soccer, so Meade if too small, and it has flooded twice big time in last 12 years.
No track, NCAA does not want a soccer/football and track together.
RICollege will have separate facilities in their long-term plan.

Nothing is wrong with the soccer field, but if you build a new stadium, you build it to be able to handle soccer and football.

Re: Rhody football talent
Surf-agreed. Rhody wants to mirror Nova,UNH and Maine in FB.
But wants to take a fine soccer complex and combine with a new FB field?
Imagine trying to raise $$ for that!

Re: Rhody football talent
We need a new stadium, until that happens we'll never compete in the CAA. Knockdown existing stands and replace with30 rows versus the 50 today and add end zone stands to total 10,000 seats. Add turf, lights, lacrosse would play there and host RI high school championship games to generate money.

Its going to be tough raising $$ for this.
I will be surprised to see support from soccer donor advocates give, after funding a nice facility.
Bet they don't give=wasteful.

Re: Rhody football talent
It doesn't make any sense to combine soccer and football in the same facility. First, trying to schedule three teams games and practices in the fall would be difficult. Second, everyone wants field turf for the football facility and it would be necessary if you combine soccer and football, but soccer is better on grass. They already have a grass surface, why would soccer want to downgrade? Third, they already have stands that can accommodate their fan base and a new football facility should seat in the neighborhood of 8-12 thousand people. Why would they want to play in an empty facility?OBRAM wrote:Nothing is wrong with the soccer field, but if you build a new stadium, you build it to be able to handle soccer and football.
Combining soccer and football in one facility is a "solution" to a problem that doesn't exist. The solution actively harms soccer and there has never been a stated benefit to anyone when this has been brought up in the past.

Re: Rhody football talent
We currently have a club team that uses a back field in the spring. Frankly I'm kind of surprised they don't already use Meade, but I imagine they can't play there in an effort to save the field. If Meade ever received lights and field turf I'd definitely think they would use it.Hal Kopp wrote:RhodyAlum-what lacrosse team?

Re: Rhody football talent
Yea the only way I could see football and soccer being played on the same field is if URI eventually decides to build a standalone basketball facility and it goes in that space. That seems like it would be a long way away given the work that would need to be done to Meade as well as the cost of a standalone facility. Like you said, going from grass to turf would be an obvious downgrade. Plus the current field is a nice bonus for recruiting purposes that we'd lose.RhowdyRam02 wrote:It doesn't make any sense to combine soccer and football in the same facility. Particularly passing game. Which is what they need to break through.

Lawson or Harris? (Or both?) Running back by committee this year? Should have some talent at wide out and with 2 RS senior transfer QBs, need to be able to move the ball in the air this year. OLine has to give them time.Hal Kopp wrote:Bos-good,offense looked strong.

Re: Rhody football talent
Fleming is gambling that his son doesn't screw it all up.
Somehow he convinced Thorr to keep him on last year as OC after Thorr expressed a desire to hire an outside OC.
This is the make or break season for the staff.
.500 or better, or see ya. Of course, with an 11 game schedule it has to be 6-5 or better.

Re: Rhody football talent
Lawson is the QB. Big mistake by Fleming last year when he named Harris the starter. They're hoping the juco can start at RB. Not much other talent at RB. OLine now has some experience. Fleming has been playing them since they were FR and SOPHS. Should be a team strength.Bos8 wrote:Lawson or Harris? (Or both?) Running back by committee this year?
