I would say you cant argue with national titles. But of course people here are doing just that.
I don't think anyone on this board is arguing with national titles.
People are saying that national title UConn is a thing of the past.
The 2014 title was won with Calhoun/Old Big East recruited, Calhoun coached players. That's a long time ago.
By bids per year and the highest seed:
2018: A10 - 3 (7) AAC - 3 (2)
2017: A10 - 3 (7) AAC - 2 (6)
2016: A10 - 3 (7) AAC - 4 (8)
2015: A10 - 3 (7) AAC - 2 (6)
2014: A10 - 6 (5) AAC - 4 (4)
In overall conference bids? The AAC has 198 to the A10's 151. However of the 33 from Temple, 30 came from the A10. Every school in that had success in a different conference, and the change has cost those schools a lot of that cache.
Why does this matter? Because Dan Hurley cares about winning and going to the NCAAT. He won 25 with Wagner and didn't even get a NIT invite. That's the only reason he left - and it was HARD for him. Look at those NCAA births and tell me which conference is plainly better?
You can't. So to act like UConn is such a massive step up just because they can throw more cash at the coach is folly.
They also have standards so out of whack that if you miss the NCAA tournament after winning a national championship within 4 years - they'll fire you and call the cops on themselves so they don't have to pay you. Does that sound like a dream job? Hmmmmmm job security and built up program vs unrealistic high standards and a rebuild...
If this were 2012, a lot more people would be worried about the UConn job. Now it's a rebuild at a football school.
