Not for nothing, Ryan Center > Siegal Center. If we had their band it wouldn't even be close, the arena is nice but kinda small-ish.

I had thought "airplane hangar" during the game. One tier of seating is pretty weak.Rhode_Island_Red wrote:That's obvious on television. The VCU gym looks like a warehouse with bleachers against the walls.bigappleram wrote:Oh I made it out just fine...Tyrese Martin was in attendance.

No question. Their fans are great in terms of showing up, traveling, etc. Just the building itself makes me appreciate the Ryan even more. And to be fair, most buildings do.

New Rhody fans in the making...from one end of the country to the other...
Spent Thanksgiving with the family in Maine. My 9 year old nephew likes college hoops and we all watched Rhody/Seton Hall together. Didn't think that much of it, until my sister started texting me during the Duquesne game, when they were down by a lot (and I told her it would be fine) She said that, since Thanksgiving, he's been a URI follower...watches them whenever he can...records the games. He watched last night and was all excited about it. Funny how things get started sometimes...maybe his fandom carries through and he ends up going to URI...who knows... in any event, there is a clan of Rhody hoops followers up in Maine
Also have a friend in St. Pete, FL, where we used to live...that I have pulled onto the bandwagon over the last couple years. His kids went to FGCU and he was actually in town, made it to that game with us and I hear from him now during Rhody games as well....

The guys must be feeling pretty good today. Back on campus for awhile after that two week stretch. Can't imagine how many students are yelling out at them.

In a true sign of the times there is a thread on the PC board about our teams performance that is 100% positive. Well Darth prob hasn’t been on their board today but even so not something you thought you would see. Speaks to the likability of this team and these kids. They still hate us (the fans)! Rightly so.

BAR, is this the free scout forum? I do occasionally lurk there, though probably not more than once a month. I certainly am not going to pay to see their forum.bigappleram wrote:In a true sign of the times there is a thread on the PC board about our teams performance that is 100% positive. Re: These are the good times.
Rhode Island is a deep and dangerous team. I sincerely believe there are less than a half dozen teams we don’t match up with.....
But we can wear those teams down with speed, athleticism and most important depth. I also believe our staff is firing on all cylinders as well, which will be needed to beat those half dozen teams.
I have expectations beyond the second weekend for this club. Let’s enjoy tonight and get back to work tomorrow. Need to drop the hammer on the final games of the season and crush St Bona in the A10 tourney.
secure a 3 or 4 seed and then shoot for the moon!
Go Rhody!

There are some plays that you never forget. I like to reminisce about old Rhody teams, players and plays, because I've seen a lot of them. Fatts stealing the ball from Young and then nailing a three over him is now one of those plays. EC with the dagger three is another. Yes, these are the good times.

Yeah, the EC 3 followed by Fatts stealing the ball from Young and nailing a 3 in his face is probably the highlight.Billyboy78 wrote:There are some plays that you never forget. Cue my music.
This could end tomorrow, I fully realize that. But I’m feeling so much better about the state of our program than I was just a couple weeks ago. This team is rolling right now. Maybe VCU is too tall of task to keep it going, but for now this is fun. The good times are coming back to Kingston.

This is a stress-free team to follow right now. We've been clunker-free thru about 2/3 of the season, and while it's unlikely that we get thru the entire season without one it is not absurd to think we'd run the A10 table if we do. We will be in the top-25 on Monday, 0.007 RPI points from being in the top-10. Veteran, talented, deep team.
Soak it in.

Remember all those games we scored in the 50s (5 times) and even in the 40s (twice)? In the last 5 games, all wins, we have averaged 81.6 points per game. Quite a turnaround. Good times indeed.

Yup. Put the conference on notice over the last few weeks. No shame in using up all your gas trying to win the race. Good learning experience for the guys to take into next season.

Re: These are the good times.
Just something to point out as it showed up in my memories. Exactly one year ago today Dan Hurley coached his last game for the Rhode Island Rams. No one really knew what kind of state the program would be in a year later. But I think most are in agreement that URI basketball is not only in good shape now, but also trending in the right direction. Go Rhody.

Re: These are the good times.
I though of this year as a rebuilding year because of what we lost in personnel from last year so I sat back and watched the year as a whole. I didn't live or die with each win or loss like many here (I was disappointed at times in February) but watched individual play. This year wasn't about accomplishments as a team but with each player. Jeff was great and will be even better next year when he won't have to worry so much about scoring the ball and can direct the team more (and play less minutes). Cyril was a force and with better FT shooting could be A10 player of the year next year (he left 2-3 more pts per game on the table if he just shot @ 70%). Fatts was disappointing but he knows that so I think he works very hard this summer and gets his shooting touch back. Cutting down on his mins I think would help also.
Martin hit the wall and was injured but we saw a real potential double digit score next year (12-14). Tate had games where you said he is going to be good but there were many games we he didn't do much at all. I think next year he will be more comfortable, aggressive (and healthy) he could be much more consistent and take a good size leap. Harris is the question mark but he shoots the ball very well so I think next year is better and then his last 2 years he could really be the player everyone thought he would be.
Silverio, Hammond and Long should give us at worst some quality mins off the bench to spell the guards and hopefully 1-2 of them can hit the 3 at @ 35-40% (Mading might be able to help with that problem also). Walker should team up nicely with Cyril/Harris to give a real nice frontcourt.
Overall I think next year is a very nice year with the depth we will have and if everyone is/stays healthy I see a 20+ win season and a very decent shot at going back to the dance. Losing Jeff and Cyril after that...???
