URI scheduling question
Trying to get the temperature of the fan base on what they think of this scheduling situation with West Virginia.

Re: URI scheduling question
If those are the only two options, then yes, obviously we should play West Virginia even if our home game is at Mohegan. If we could get an actual home and home with a team similar to Alabama then I'd possibly go with that over West Virginia.

Re: URI scheduling question
I'd go with this year's schedule, which isn't one of the options listed. Top 10 OOC RPI and nothing there is unrepeatable, they should be able to build a comparable schedule every year without giving away home games.

Re: URI scheduling question
I would select yes, except it's a home and neutral. Maybe it is that hard to get games. We left 1 on the table this year. The A10 isn't helping us this year that's for sure. But if we start scheduling Temple, or Xavier or Penn State at Mohegan then we are being taken.

Re: URI scheduling question
Yeah, we need to stop calling this a home and home. Words have meanings. We have a home arena and it's not located at a casino in CT.

......coming off a single Dance appearance in 19 years get us limited(zero) “program capital” to expect anything more than what we are building.......get games against the big boys, no matter when, where....the WVU game at Mohegan is a great thing.....

I like the idea of playing at Mohegan. Sometimes people have opinions I don't agree with but I at least understand them. In this case, I don't even get the beef.
I'm not answering the poll question because it isn't even a question and doesn't merit a response.

The poll is just reinforcing the idea that the vast majority of the fan base loves this scheduling move and news. Sometimes the loud and vocal minority can skew perspective on how the fan base is reacting to the news. The poll is pretty clear on how the fan base is reacting to the news without one persons opinion taking on a great proportion than it should.TruePoint wrote:I like the idea of playing at Mohegan. No, for two reasons.theblueram wrote:If West Virginia refuses to play us at home, don't you think we should not be playing Brown at home?
1) Tradition - I don’t feel the need to stick it to Brown.
2) I think we should always play several OOC away games each year, and Brown is a fairly non-threatening way for our guys to get experience playing on the road.

The Brown game is $$$ related. People say It every year. I would prefer to get a team at the Ryan center before students go home but we take what we can get. Mick Cronin said playing us at Mohegan was a home game for us.

Re: URI scheduling question
Quite the false equivalency to say that we have the same amount of shared history with WVU that we do with Brown. Before this thread, I barely remembered that WVU even used to be in the same conference. 30 years is a long time ago, and should not factor into current scheduling decisions whatsoever.theblueram wrote:Brown sucks. We have played Brown 103 times. We have played West Virginia 32 times. If we followed your scheduling philosophy we literally wouldn't play any out of conference games at this point.theblueram wrote:Brown sucks. Always has. They are an Ivy League school. The games suck. Re: URI scheduling question
I like the neutral and away deal with WVU much better than the TWO 2for1 deals Rhody made with BC a few years ago. It will be in URI's best interest to schedule the Mohegan Sun game on a weekend. A weeknight game there will not draw well and would neutralize the advantage of the site being much closer to URI. A saturday afternoon game will draw a good sized Keaney Blue crowd.

Re: URI scheduling question
This is an instate opponent so not apples and apples comparison. We could buy them out but that would cost us money and until we increase the revenue we generate on game day, the cost benefit analysis doesn’t appear to show that it’s worth it yet.theblueram wrote:If West Virginia refuses to play us at home, don't you think we should not be playing Brown at home?

Does anybody know if the weekend date was part of the agreement? Completely agree with RF1 point with this, a Sat afternoon or night game would be significantly better for our program then a weekday game.RF1 wrote:I like the neutral and away deal with WVU much better than the TWO 2for1 deals Rhody made with BC a few years ago. My guess is that the game will get some national TV interest and likely will be played whenever ESPN wants it to be played.
I want to go HAM at our fans for crazy ass takes like "if WVU won't play us on our campus we should stop playing at Brown," but I have to keep telling myself it isn't "our fans" it's just blueram, and blueram means we'll but he's got a little of the crazy like if Ted Nugent was a college hoops fan. Ditto on what Rhodyrudder said above. Remember we were also two games short of the max allotment of games. Which means we gave two home games away too.. NOBODY! There are thousands and thousands of URI alumni in Connecticut. If the athletic department marketing people and the alumni office put together an alumni event and pushed it hard, we could make it a home game.
And maybe it'll be 85 and sunny today.

I just don't like being disrespected , WVU doesn't want to play at the Ryan because were not "proven" enough? That sounds like a big baby to me and reminds me of Ed Cooley wanting every PC match-up at the dunk. Its college basketball for god sakes, is there really a huge difference playing at a casino anyways? Its not Madison Square Garden. I think we proved ourselves enough. I also hope the old conference arguments are fake too because thats laughable. Its just annoying. As the late great Rodney Dangerfield would say "I get no respect!" GO RHODY

We can make Mohegan a bigger version of the RC if everyone pulls together to make it so.....maybe without as many students, but a plenty good enough home court advantage.

So take away the most passionate fans, have us play on a floor that's not ours, shooting on a backdrop we're not familiar with. That's not a home court advantage in any respect. Re: URI scheduling question
I recall the rhody section at the Cincy game being completely full. Mohegan specific, we fans "travel" well. In that Cincy game, URI shot 45% from the field and they shot 46% at the Ryan Center all of last season. It all just sounds like whining in the form of facts. The market has spoken - to get a series with a team of WVU's caliber, it takes a neutral site game as our home game...let's just be happy with the scheduling. I am stoked with where Hurley has gotten the program while acknowledging that there is still a lot of work to be done.RhowdyRam02 wrote:So take away the most passionate fans, have us play on a floor that's not ours, shooting on a backdrop we're not familiar with. What about those comparisons makes you feel that they should have more respect for what we have done? What have we proven?

Why is everyone argueing with the one or two fans that think this game is a bad idea? As the poll proves above, over 97% of the fans think this game is a solid agreement. Let the couple of unrealistic fans banter by themselves.

Alabama is a P5 team and is playing us in Kingston. It’s not necessarily a P5 issue, it’s a top tier P5 issue for the most part.
