Anybody else in Bama for tonight?
I know I’ll be there, as will RR96. Anybody else?
Hopefully no one cares about basketball down there because if this was football I’d actually feel in danger.

If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

Re: Anybody else in Bama for tonight?
There were actually 5 rhody fans in the building, so that was cool.
I will say, the Alabama fans are the nicest, most welcoming people I've ever come across. Literally just coming up to us to say hi, ask if we really came all the way down from RI, welcome us, ask how everything was...a total and complete 180 of our friends up 95.*
Tuscaloosa is worth the trip. I'm lucky to know a kid who is a thrower at UofA and he gave us a tour of their facilities, and actually his throwing coach used to coach at URI 10 years ago. It's...um...impressive. To say the least. When I say impressive I mean that the Patriots would be lucky to practice and train in a facility like that.
For anyone who ever doubts what a successful, flagship sports program can do to benefit your athletic department, as well as all of your students and athletes, check out any major program. It's obviously apples and oranges, but we could have a similar-type (scaled down) thing at URI if we continue to win and invest in our program.
Next road game I'll make sure to pack our shooting in my carry-on so that we don't leave it behind in Kingston.
*I have a feeling if I said War Eagle and it was a football game all of that treatment goes out the window and I wouldn't be typing this today.

Re: Anybody else in Bama for tonight?
A crazy happenstance of that game last night was the SEC+ sideline reporter, Ms Oppenheimer. Only the older fans will remember Josh Oppenheimer, who played on Tom Penders Runnin Rams team of the late 80s. Always loved him and Steve Lane though neither saw much time behind Silk and Tommy. Josh was actually my camp counselor at those URI basketball camps i went to as a kid and was a great dude. Was funny to see his daughter doing our game, strange coincidence...i thought he was a California kid? Maybe that is bad memory.

He's coaching in the D league in L.I..
Played in Israel for six years.

Re: Anybody else in Bama for tonight?
I always wondered if Josh Oppenheimer was related to Jess Oppenheimer. Jess was a Hollywood producer with his biggest claim to fame being the brains and the producer of the "I Love Lucy" show. Yes, Josh was from L.A... Jess died in 1988 in, yes, L.A. I'm guessing they were related, grandfather, possibly? Oppenheimer isn't a very common name, I wouldn't think. So, just a bit of (potential) trivia there.

Re: Anybody else in Bama for tonight?
That was great seeing that cover photo of the 88 team
I was a sophomore during that season and went to all the home games
One time I didn't have a ticket and Mergin Sina let me in the backdoor of Keaney
I used to watch Jimmy Christian shoot jumpers in warmups he could flat out shoot but he had Tommy G and Silk ahead of him on the depth chart and could never get in

That 88 game against #1 Temple in Keaney Gym is still the most hyped URI game experience ever. The #1 team in the country, playing in a glorified high school gym. The noise was deafening. Section 8.

Re: Anybody else in Bama for tonight?
Mark Macon
Howard Evans
Tim Perry
Mike Vreeswyk
And wait for it....
Ramon Rivas!
They beat us 3 times that year and finished 32-2 including 18-0 in a very tough A10.

Ref Higgins took Tommy Garrick out of the game in less than a minute and a half.

Re: Anybody else in Bama for tonight?
Rivas fight was season of 86-87. Temple and Mark Macon ranked #1 and coming to Keaney was 87-88, later that day Doug Williams became the first black QB to win a Super Bowl (beating Denver).

Blueman, saw you on TV a few times. The SEC TV coverage panned to you at least 3 times.
