16/17 at the line tonight!
Along with JT and Berry and Stan getting game balls, shooting 16/17 at the line with the struggles we’ve had is amazing!

We had some family members visit this year that have never seen me or my brother watch a URI game before. More than one of them are now convinced that I'm insane and I'm going to die early due to a heart attack. They may be right on both accounts but GODAMN DOES THAT WIN FEEL GOOD!!!! What a monster OOC win, minus our marquee player (love EC but JT is the best player on the team and should be the one with the ball in his hands during crunch time) and also minus our best big man. INCREDIBLE.urirx wrote:First half was great second half had my family laughing at me. Great to be the board not in meltdown! Winning cures all ills!
Hitting the road bright and early cannot wait for the game tomorrow!!! LET'S GO RHODY

I was there and with the SH crowd getting as loud as they were all game JT said goodnight to them. I see a C Mobley senior year for him this year and carrying this team. JD has to get his confidence down with his shot though.

You know, if anyone from URI is drafted,
my money is on Jared Terrell.
He is our best player, period.
He plays both ends of the floor, and he plays with
attitude.
Super win, especially without our center, and
at was was practically a home game for Seton Hall.

JT will be the man without EC....dare I say he really steps it up when he doesn't have to defer.....
Been waiting for someone to win us big games at the end....maybe this will be the start of something big....
We also clicked in the running game first half.....second half the half court game was a struggle.
But a win is a win is a win.....we will be the only A10 team with any kind of an at large resume.

Just looked at box score
Jarvis no FG attempts in 26 minutes
Only 11 turnovers nice job
Won this game at the line 16-17 and made 9 treys

No Langevine and Berry in foul trouble the whole game against a team with a good big man. Shows we can win against tournament caliber teams with 4 guards.

Jarvis didn't press his offense but played steady and solid while he was out there. No mistakes, deferred to others on offense. I think JT has to be the go-to guy the rest of the year, even when EC returns. Think we will have to force pace tomorrow so that VA can't set up their D.

Andy maybe so but we were getting killed on the boards down the stretch. Berry hanging in there and finishing the game without fouling out was critical. Without him we were dead; who would have thought that before the season started.URI2006_Andy wrote:No Langevine and Berry in foul trouble the whole game against a team with a good big man. Yeah true even though Jarvis didn't take a shot at least he didn't force anything and moved the ball well. His time will come
Of concern is Dowtins outside shot, not good at all and he made a couple bad turnovers
Also Preston forced into playing the 5 he is out of position. Cyril needs to get back soon

Three thoughts:
-- Words I never thought I'd say: We survived playing without Andre Berry for most of the first half.
--- Jared Terrell for president!
-- In terms of RPI BPI etc., that was a huge win. But unless we beat Them next Saturday, it won't be much of a marketing bounce.

Cavs are #25 in the USA Today Coaches poll. Upcoming opponent Alabama is #25 in the AP. Our other upcoming opponent next Saturday, Providence, si receiving votes in both polls (as is URI).

Re: 11/23 | #20 Seton Hall Pirates | 6:00PM (ESPNU)
My three keys to the game from the preview:
1. Minimize rebounding differential
2. Turnover Battle
3. Terrell winning matchup with Desi Rodriguez
The rebounding differential was in favor of Seton Hall (41-31), as expected (especially without Cyril), and they doubled us up on the offensive glass. I thought I saw that they had 16 second chance points to our zero. So, we didn't win the rebounding battle, but we did at least make it somewhat competitive. There were a couple of instances where Seton Hall grabbed a multiple offensive rebounds on the same possession, which are killers when they happen but also end up throwing the rebounding stats out of whack since they can only get one basket at the end of those possessions. Take those away and the rebounding margin isn't quite as wide. Certain particular instances aside, I thought we battled respectably on the boards considering what we were playing with and against from a personnel standpoint.
The turnover battle, and the assist:turnover battle, don't necessarily look pretty just looking at our stats. But we did win both, turning it over 12 times to SHU's 15, and assisting on 11 baskets to SHU's 9. A 3:5 assist to turnover ratio is a good mark for the defense. We had 8 steals and 4 blocks, compared to 6 and 3 for Seton Hall.
And Jared Terrell, who came in as our best player and played probably his best game as a Ram, absolutely won his matchup with Desi Rodriguez, going for 32/4/1/1 in 38 minutes, 10-10 from the FT line, compared to Rodriguez getting 12/2/0/2 with four turnovers in 32 minutes. Plus he blew by Rodriguez on his way to kissing the game winner off the glass from the right side of the lane with 5.7 seconds left.
A couple other keys that I didn't identify before the game but ended up making a difference:
- URI managed to not give up twice as many FT attempts as it took, actually out-attempting the Pirates 17 to 16. And not only that, we hit 16-17 compared to 9-16 for Seton Hall. Those 7 points obviously made a huge difference.
- Relatedly, we committed 20 fouls compared to 16 by Seton Hall. Against Nevada we committed 28. That makes a big difference both in terms of FT attempts for the other side (Nevada took 44!) and in terms of dealing with foul trouble. Only Berry really had his minutes limited by foul trouble.
- Fatts was not perfect and missed a couple of shots pretty badly and had some others rim out, but he got us a couple of huge hoops and it is very obvious that this kid is not intimidated at all. He's going to be a good one. Eight points off the bench.
- Similarly, Stan played an imperfect but quietly very good all-around game, going for 15/5/1/1/2.
- You wouldn't know it from the box score, as Delgado had 18/14 and Berry finished with 8/7 and spent time on the bench with fouls, but in a tough spot I thought Berry turned in a workmanlike solid game. Not exceptional, but certainly that matchup with Delgado feasibly could have been more one sided.

Kudos to Dan noticing and pointing out Powell illegally shooting at the line to the officials. That one point did turn out to be the difference in the game.

Re: 11/23 | #20 Seton Hall Pirates | 6:00PM (ESPNU)
Dan had some great calls tonight, even using Layssard for some hack a Shaq type minutes.
But he ran some great action for our two alphas - Jared and Stan.
At least twice coming out of TO's we ran double screens for Jared that freed him for wide open 3's. Both times were when we needed a hoop to stem their momentum. And we were killing them in 1st half with ISO on Stan around the elbow.

This win is the sweetest in modern rhody history. JT is a MAN. You kind of wonder why teams like SH didnt play a similiar game plan as Nevada's against us. Aggressive drive in the paint and get fouled. Anyway, this will be our signature win come selection Sunday. Enjoy the ride.

Just got done watching the game (was over a sister's house where only Football is allowed on TV) and I am a very happy boy. Great win. SH will be a top 3 BE team and has the capability to make a deep run in the NCAA's.
UVA will be a completely different game. I suspect a game in the low 60s. The team must stay focused, hit FTs, and stay out of foul trouble.

I was excited when he got in the game, showed Dan wasn’t afraid to play him in a big spot. I’m talking strictly about the opponent strength. We just beat a top 20 team picked second to win the Big East without two of our starters.
