Re: The Patriot Way
Couldn't stay up to watch the 2nd half of last night's opener.
Was shocked to see the score....21-0 Chiefs in the 4th quarter?
Unusual to say the least.....but if the Pats don't shore up that defense, they've got problems.
KC is good though, they have weapons. The Pats will still waltz thru their division.

Re: The Patriot Way
Went to the game, fantastic trophy ceremony. The game started off great, first drive TD followed by a KC turnover. The rest was bla. Red zone scoring was terrible. Was not a fan of the play calling at all. Not enough guys down field and the run game wasn't effective enough. Injuries don't help. Both sides of the ball lost key players, Hightower and Amendola. Hopefully they're back at some point. Also, kick-off team was hurting us bad. New team, new season, they will adjust. GO PATS!

GREAT start to the NFL season last night!
Watch out for the New York Football Giants. Their defense has a great chance to be the best in the NFL this year.

After today all us Pats fans can exhale now...
All those injuries to WRs and Gronk is scary tho. We badly need Amendola and Mitchell back.
Wise looks like a total steal in the 4th rd. 2 sacks in games so far and basically our best DL imo.

I wouldn't get too excited about the Pats being back just yet.
Injuries are mounting....Brady threw 2 picks that were nullified by penalties.....
And the Saints are the worst defensive team in the NFL....and no one is close.
The Pats should be glad that they are in a division full of patsies.........they could win that division with their eyes closed.

To be fair to him, it seemed like he knew the penalties were on the Saints both plays, and tried to force a big play on a "free" play. At least, that's how it seemed from the radio broadcast.rambone 78 wrote:Brady threw 2 picks that were nullified by penalties.....

Re: The Patriot Way
There was one specifically (the 12 men on the field penalty), where he just threw the ball up in the air to see if his receiver could make a play. Can't remember the other interception or the penalty that got it nullified.

Re: The Patriot Way
Both interceptions were on penalty plays. Fortunately, Brady knows the rules better than the refs.
I think every game is going to be a struggle.
It seems like half of the team showed up for training camp on the IR.
Injuries are going to hurt this team this year.
How many games willl they get from Gronk, Hightower and Amendola? They always miss games.
There's no replacement anywhere in sight for Edelman.
A lot of issues on defense.
And, believe it or not, Miami could be a factor this year. With all the jokes about Cutler, if he ever puts it all together, they could make a run.

Re: The Patriot Way
I don't really think Cutler will ever put it all together, but I also don't think New England is substantially better than Miami because of all of their injuries. Like if they played 10 times, I'd think the Dolphins would take at least two or three games off of them. (Whereas Buffalo or the Jets, I'd think they would win more like 1-in-100.)ramfan85 wrote:Both interceptions were on penalty plays. Fortunately, Brady knows the rules better than the refs.

One of the picks was when the Saints had 12 men on the field. Brady hurried up and threw it in the general direction of the 12th guy running off the field. No one on the Patriots seemed to even move much.SGreenwell wrote:To be fair to him, it seemed like he knew the penalties were on the Saints both plays, and tried to force a big play on a "free" play. We're still waiting for Cutler to put it all together? He's been in the league long enough where I think we can safely say he is what he is now.

He can throw deep, however. That's something Miami hasn't had in a long time.
It is, however, more about Pats injuries than anything else.
I'm still nervous about that team. Of course, I get nervous before every game.

Re: The Patriot Way
That was the most awfully officiated game I can recall seeing in a long time.
The defense was awful,
but the refs 100% cost us a game that should have been won, the two Gilmore "hands to the face" something that happens dozens time a game w/o call cost us 14 points, including keeping alive the CAR drive and negating that sack. That play alone likely swung the game from a very likely NE win to giving Panthers a fresh drive and chance to win,
Not to mention the guy who called Def holding on our CB.... on a designated run play where it was totally legal to engage the blocker.... This gave Car another 7-10 yards (I forget) on the final drive and almost surely meant the difference between the kicking and missing a FB or just trying to punt and run out the clock.
How many penalties on CAR? a whole 1.

Re: The Patriot Way
Also, if it was possible for me to dislike Cam Newton any less.
Did anyone else notice the clenched fist salute he gave after that touchdown run?
It's literally the Communist equivalent, and and answer to the Nazi Salute. Now, I'm not saying Cam is a communist, (although I think using it as a black power gesture is just as bad, arguably worse. Just ask the victims of the black panthers or Robert Mugabe!) nor do I spend much time worry about supposed Marxist conspiracies.
But it just strikes me Cam is unlikely to face punishment for knowingly making a gesture that is, for a large equivalent percentage of the earths population just as bad as the Nazi salute. Infact, it sees much of the media is lauding him for it if anything.

OMG....the Pats have gotten every break in the book from the refs in so many games it's impossible to count.....especially at home.....
Yeah there were a couple questionable calls...when isn't there?
As great as Brady still is....he can't win games by himself if the defense is as el stinko as that group is....they will still win the division even though the Bills look pretty good so far.....and tied with the Jets....that's a big ha ha....

Re: Big News Forthcoming???
A 2nd round pick for a backup QB is pretty good imo......and that's likely to be a VERY high 2nd round pick.
Let's just say that Jimmy G. won't be that great in SF.....the system in NE makes players better...once they leave then things aren't so great anymore for them. Most of the time anyway.
The moves that the Pats make keep them on top....unlike Reese in NY.....

STUPID trade!
Garppalo is very talented.
Why trade him for a draft choice, when the need help on defense>
Does Belichick reall think Brady can play forever?
Oh, and what the hell does this have to do with Rhody Basektball???

That rule is absolute bullshit.
Guys can dive for the end zone, touch the pylon with the ball, then lose it a millesecond after...BEFORE they hit the ground, and they call it a touchdown.
The Pats are good, but also very lucky....Brady is going to run out of magic sooner rather than later.
I don't think they win the SB this year.....

OK pats were lucky.. No doubt...but these other teams are dumb and shoot themselves in the foot..Jesse James hold onto ball and there is no rule to worry about.. No one knocked it out of his hand.. He did it all by himself.. Db hold onto easy interception on last pats drive.. Heyward bet go out of bounds on next to last play and dumbest move big Ben don't get fancy and fake spiking ball then throw terrible pass... Pitts blew a lot of chances to make a rule a moot point..

Re: The Patriot Way
Agreed on other teams just being stupid, in addition to the rules of the NFL. James did let that ball get loose when he dove into the end zone. He should have been clutching that ball like a 10 second old newborn baby. Crossing the plane, hitting a pylon, all that didn't matter because he hadn't established possession via catching the damn ball.
All that said, Steelers had the game well in hand but they didn't get out of bounds when they had no timeouts, resulting in Big Dumb Ben making a Big Dumb Decision of forcing the ball into traffic rather than floating a fade pass to the corner... or just spiking it to tie the game on a chip shot field goal. He was at home. The Patriots got to him. Losers lose.
