Re: Red Sox and other Major League Baseball
They all stink.
Eck critiquing every single pitch.
I remember Jason Bay hit a meatball a mile,
and Eck was angry at the opposing pitcher!
That told me everything.
Gomes, Timlin and Salty, all need to learn that
they don;t need to talk every minute of the broadcast.
I felt Wade Boggs was easily the most professional of the bunch.
OT:
23,000 on a Sunday game in Miami, to see one of the
hottest homer run stretches in MLB history.
So, it's not like Stanton is putting fannies in the seats
there.
A real shame, too.

Re: Red Sox and other Major League Baseball
Scary ending. Would have been a total disaster if Kimbrel were to give up a walk off home run on the last out. Would have been 5 straight losses with a disaster 4 run bottom of the 9th.
Meanwhile, Pomeranz continues to make the Trade last year look better and better.
Pomer was the winner in Boston's last win, then he breaks the 4 game losing streak here in late August with another win. Not his best control, but he pitched good enough. Great gob to get out of the hole with man on 2nd and no outs.
Pomeranz now has the best record on the team at 14-4.
Tonight he tied the great Mel Parnell with 14 straight games started without a loss as a Left Handed Pitcher for Boston. 3.23 ERA has steadily dropped as the season has progressed.
Maybe his 1 All Star Selection was not a fluke after all.

It's weird, stealing signs is perfectly legal, yet you can't use technology?

good grief....end this thing...you can't invest in 16 innings and call it a night ... only thing worse than staying up all night watching this would be to stay up all night and have them lose...

19th inning finally ends. Love to watch games like this.
Red Sox really needed this win and got it - would have been devastating to lose this one

I think you're all alone on that one. I watch because the only thing worse than watching a 19 inning game is watching 18 innings and finding out the next day your missed the end by 10 minutes.ramster wrote:Cancel the Uber

Not alone, but a pretty small group for sure. My guess is only about 1500 people there at the game at 1am. Not many, but a lot more than most any other MLB Team would have in a 19th inning at 1am.TruePoint wrote:I think you're all alone on that one. The great thing about last night was the 9th inning.
Boston was down 2-0 in the bottom of the 9th and tied the game
Baltimore scored 2 in the bottom of a the 9th and beat the Yankees!!!

Re: Red Sox and other Major League Baseball
Will the Sox get punted by MLB for electronically stealing signs?
My guess is, fines and suspensions [Farrell?] likely.
Yes, stealing signs is as old as baseball itself, but not the way the Sox were doing it. They won't have to forfeit any games though. That would be crazy.

Kinda sounds like it went like this...
MLB: So...were you using electronics to steal signs?
Sox: Yeah...so what?
...if it's legal to steal signs...who cares how they do it...come up with better signs...

Re: Red Sox and other Major League Baseball
The issue was more with the electronics, and not the sign stealing. MLB has rules is place that makes using electronic devices in the dugout illegal. My guess is that the team will be fined and that will be the end of it.

Just a fine won't be enough to deter other teams from doing it.
They will make an example of the Sox and give Farrell a few days off, imo.

My guess is maybe a fine...but nothing more...in fact, maybe not even that. I don't think the Red Sox are the most savvy or criminal of organizations...they're probably not alone by any stretch...and MLB would like the talk about it to just go away, rather than peel back more layers of what is likely a very smelly onion... just a guess though...

Well..Buster O seems to think it's a big deal...and if you read his story and replace "assistant trainer received a message on his watch" with "assistant trainer got a sign language signal from a guy in centerfield stands"...not sure there's much 'there' there...
Maybe just not as much Red Sox hate out there...I'm not a Pats fan, but if it were them...there'd be 5 stories a day on this....for the Sox, there's one in a week...and it may be done....

Cleveland is beyond hot right now...they have to cool off....but right now, Kluber gets the CY.......
Sanchez and Judge are on fire.....the Sox will probably still win the division, but it will be close.

Re: Red Sox and other Major League Baseball
You know I'd vote for Pommer
And if there were an end of season All Star Team he would be on it
Where would Red Sox be without him?
One of the criticisms of Pomeranz was he could not pitch a lot of innings. Here he is with 159 innings pitched, 3.28 ERA, 16-5 record and pitching strong in mid September. It was a great trade.

I hope he can contribute, but I wouldn't bet lunch, or even a snack, on it.

Is there any more sure out than...when you see JBJ just trotting (not running, not leaping) toward a fly ball?
Is there any less sure out than..."hit on the ground towards third..."?

interesting how with the Indians streak the Sox red Hot finish (like 15 of last 18 games won now) has gone 100% under the radar. ESPN power rankings even had us dropping spot to the cubs who are 4 games behind us despite a crap division and the sox not losing a game in the last week,

Another dud by Sale and Altuve with 3 hrs. I'm guessing Sale has a tired arm.
This could be over quickly unless Pomeranz tosses a gem.....
Astros in 4 imo.

Where is that confounded puke emoji when you need it?
I don't understand why they have a puke emoji for all employees at a Fortune 100 company, but we can't have one on this board.
What kind of investment are we talking about for this?

Re: Red Sox and other Major League Baseball
The Red Sox are being exposed in the Astros series.
The vaunted starting pitching, look like batting machines.
The lineup is weak.
The Astros have a solid-great lineup, top- to bottom,
with tons of power.
The Sox have an injured Mookie Betts, and a bunch of streaky
singles hitters. Last in AL in home runs.
Farrell is a poor in game manager.
Assuming the Sox go down to the Astros, or even get swept,
then what?
Dave Dombrowski loves power hitters.
He once stole Miguel Cabrera from the Marlins.
Derek Jeter says he's unsure about Giancarlo Stanton's future
in Miami.
Seems a perfect match with Boston.
A package of on roster everyday players, say JBJ and others,
and prospects, for Stanton.
Move Benitendi to CF, and plug Stanton in LF.
This team needs a marquee power hitter. One who NESN watchers
won't leave to go to the kitchen, when he's at bat.
Oh, and a new manager who won't let the inmates run the
asylum, would help, too.

Ridiculous, and one of the main reasons (in addition to the 'personalities' of guys like Pitcher Dave, Crusty Dustin, and Farrell) that the team is just not that likeable...
