Re: '18 NY G Malik Martin (Offer)
I think we've got a great shot at him.
Has he grown any? He would be a great get, either as a SG or SF.

His stats suggest he could use a prep year.

Offers from us, Towson, and Monmouth. Interest from PC and Creighton. We'll see how he does this summer.Billyboy78 wrote:I have never seen Malik play. Is he an A10 caliber player?

Re: '18 NY G Malik Martin (Offer)
The real question is, "would he have an offer if he wasn't Hassan's brother?". I hope the best for the kid but, based off statistics and film, I don't think we have a scholarship to waste on a kid a few years away.

Malik had knee surgery and missed the July events. That's a tough break for a guy trying to work his way into more offers.

Hate to say it, but Hassan and his brother sure do seem to be a bit injury prone...

It seems like some posters on this forum or forgetting the impact Hass had here... his younger brother or his ACL and a freak injury, the same thing happened with our star playerRhody15 wrote:Hate to say it, but Hassan and his brother sure do seem to be a bit injury prone...

He's one of the most important players in recent memory, I'm well aware of the impact he had.
I'm also well aware he's been injured / played hurt the last two seasons.

Doesn't make it fair to lump Hassan's freak injuries with Malik's when literally anyone can tear their acl by doing the slightest thing the wrong way.Rhody15 wrote:Did I say anything about the impact Hassan had? I don't think this is Hassan's brother. This is Melik Martin of York Catholic and York Ballers - Malik Martin is Curtis and I don't see him reclassifying to 2017.

Re: '18 NY G Malik Martin (Offer)
So Melik is going to Monmouth, who has also offered Malik. This could get even more confusing.

Maybe Monmouth is also confused? That would be awkward.

Malik seems to be having a great Sr year. Is the competition not at the caliber for D1 recruits?

New Heights is probably the #1 program in NYC. And also the program that newly minted Uconn assistant Kimani Young ran before he went to Minnesota.

Re: '18 NY G Malik Martin (Offer)
Curtis' Malik Martin becomes only the 4th two-time boys' Jaques Award winner
Martin became the first back-to-back winner in 13 years. The 6-foot-4 guard led the Island in scoring with a 21.8 points per game average that included an Island-high 675 points and 34 three-pointers.
Martin made a living at the free-throw line where he not only compiled double-digit appearances, but drained the majority of the shots he took.
He was also a superb defender, including blocking shots, and rebounder.
He finished as the Island's second all-time leading scorer with 1,918 points in 119 games, good enough for a combined 16.1 ppg. average over his four years.

He needs a good summer and a year of Prep because he missed last summer recovering from injury.

What happen to post grad year at New Heights? I was hoping Malik had a great year and became a Ram. Glad for him that he got the offer from Charlotte for this year. Good luck Malik.

He got good minutes but not a ton of production. Did hit at almost 38% from three.

What’s this about Mekhi Long? I have not been reading everything here since the season ended - I missed that.

Some PC fan said a friend of theirs heard from a reliable source that Mekhi was transferring at the end of the season.
At the risk of being called out by Old Takes Exposed, we heard this about Mekhi and read into Fatts' IG caption. There have been a billion transfers so far and not one of them was from URI.

Ah Ok. I’m certainly not going to sit here and declare that nobody could possibly transfer. Anything could happen. But people get silly with this stuff. If a guy enters the portal I will worry about it; until then it’s just noise.

Also think URI being involved with the mitchell twins could affect the mekhi transfer decision. If the Mitchell's committ I could see mekhi staying based on they have been friends and AAU teammates.RhodyKyle wrote: ↑4 years agoSome PC fan said a friend of theirs heard from a reliable source that Mekhi was transferring at the end of the season.

Malik had a great game against URI 2 years ago in his Freshman season. Can shoot the 3 ball and is a Martin... I mean I wouldn’t say no? Couldn’t say no.
