I wouldn't be shocked if EC moved on but I would have to think it would be to a P5 school. Maybe the B10 back closer to home. But PC would be a shocker.

Re: The 2017-2018 Season
I guess only the coaches know the development of our Freshman and red shirt bigs. We won't until next season. Any over seas trips this year? Or anything pre-season? It's a funny situation because I feel I only trust Langevine and no one else in the paint and that we need a transfer big, although we have three others on the bench.

I had heard this comment from a friend/ PC fan this morning. I dismissed it thinking he was mentioning in total jest. Which it should be. Not sure why Friars would want a lowly URI/A10 player anyway.bigappleram wrote:Not sure where to place this but Ryan Fazekas just announced he was leaving PC. There's no way EC leaves. Hurley stayed because of Hassan and EC; EC will return the favor.

Re: The 2017-2018 Season
Agree totally. One think most of us has always said is Dan's relationship with his players and them with him, how much to like him. And EC, seems to exemplify that type of bond. Not to mention, for a player to do something like that, I would think it would have to a kid who is very brash and probably pretty arrogant. That's not EC. Where do they begin to even mention something like this? I see Chase Jeter a 7 footer, former 5 star is transferring from Duke. Maybe I should begin a rumor he has Kingston in his sights/Iggy1979 wrote:There's no way EC leaves. Hurley stayed because of Hassan and EC; EC will return the favor.

As a friend (actually my first when I transferred), I could tell you stories about Chubes. But, if I did, I'd probably get put in "time out."TruePoint wrote:I agree, Rod. I highly doubt most fans do. Especially the younger ones who
don't realize there was a time when freshmen didn't play,
there were no conference tournaments, and no 3 point shot.
I haven't heard one announcer mention career ppg., just career point totals.
I love that Pete Maravich got 3,667 points and 44.2 ppg. in 3 years
and no 3 point shot.
Somebody went back over all his games and figured
he'd have averaged 58 ppg. with the 3 point rule.
I think he also played basketball.....lol

Ah, Steve Chubin.....
read Connie Hawkins' book.
Great story about him in the old ABA.
Had an old school coach there.
He was doing a bed check one night, on the road.
Opened Chubin's door, and found him with several women.
"Girls!" screamed the coach.
"Hey coach! Ya want one?" was Chubin's reply.

Re: The 2017-2018 Season
I'd be thrilled if Rhody could become a serious "northeast mid-major" that contends for the conference title every season. Like I've said before, all of the bones are there...
- A great arena and improving facilities
- Close to recruiting hotbeds all over the northeast
- Proof that we can recruit beyond our region
- Results! The amount of exposure from this run cannot be overstated
- I might be biased as an alum, but a beautiful campus and surrounding area
Having a coach firmly in place in addition to all of that is the formula for a successful program. Because we've already seen it. This is a rapid fan base, one that will continue to grow with results. An 80%+ capacity Ryan Center for a late-November game again a low-end regional team can be a reality if this program continues with the trend it's on...

I think we will be ranked again preseason and I think the key to staying there is replacing Iverson. He was key to breaking down zones and so far Akele has not shown that ability consistently.

True Iverson though an enigma at times really gave us a lot this year
Hard to find 6'10 guys that can hit a deep crucial 3 at any time
Going to have to find another big for sure

Kuran was our leading rebounder to. Not an easy guy to replace. When talking about Akele potentially replacing Iverson, the rebounding might be the biggest concern for me.

Re: The 2017-2018 Season
I dont think Jeter is like a Murphy. Jeter his freshman year gave Duke valuable minutes at times late in the season.
I thought Coach K was mismanaging him during Jeter's freshman year. This year? IDK really. K seems to play the guys that compete the hardest and beat out the other guys so you have to wonder.
Amile Jefferson has also had quite a career.
Still, certainly not a Murphy situation.

Re: The 2017-2018 Season
The A-10, in addition to losing many of its coaches, will be without the services of most of its 2017 all conference team members as well. Teams such as the top three regular season teams Dayton, VCU, and Richmond look like they will be hit especially hard by losses. St Bonaventure seems to be the only team that will return two all conference members.

I actually think the A10 will be stronger top to bottom next year. it hurt the league that were only 3 good RPI teams coming into conference play. I expect we will have 6ish teams with top 100 RPIs next year coming into conference.

That is probably true most of the time. One would think more experience makes for better players. These subjective awards are also sometimes not entirely based on play that year and total career (which is ending) performance and reputation is often a factor.TruePoint wrote: I'm going to assume this is almost universally true for all conferences in all years.
One of the reasons for my post was to show that URI by comparison should not lose as much top talent as other A-10 members.

Right, and I also think where you see underclassmen show up on these postseason teams in P5 conferences, they probably frequently declare for the draft. Either way, a good percentage of the guys that end up on these lists don't come back.

Re: The 2017-2018 Season
Except that I could argue that Iverson should have been 3rd team. He didn't of course, but Iverson had to have just missed. He was 4th in the league in rebounding, 3rd in Blocked Shots and 11th in FG%. Agree we don't lose much compared to other teams but losing both starting big men is a pretty significant loss. Langevine has proven to be a solid big man replacement with Tertsea and Layssard solid candidates for playing time along with Akele but Martin and Iverson were All Conference Level performers with Senior Experience.RF1 wrote:That is probably true most of the time. He's big and put up good numbers as an underclassmen at Rice.
It's hard to get playing time when you're not an NBA player at Duke.
I'm sure he'd be good here.
Look at how well all the other Duke transfers have done.
Much rather get a good Juco for a couple years, but if we can't this guy would suffice.

EC is probably one of the most influential recruits we have ever had. After the disaster of 12+ years of no NCAAT, he was the first 4* recruit to sign with us since I don't know who. He started this up again. He is going down in URI lore.

Bullock faded badly after a hot start.
Made lots of poor plays in critical points
in some key games.
Disappeared in a few games, too.
Plenty of folks not very happy with Bullock's play.

yes, they changed the rules a few years ago. you can declare for the draft and go to pre-draft workouts, and as long as you dont enter the draft or hire an agent you can come back to school.Rhodymob05 wrote:So he can try out for the NBA and still have the option to play in college?
Trevon Bluiett did it last offseason
"Basketball student-athletes may enter a professional league’s draft once during their college career without jeopardizing their eligibility as long as they are not drafted by a professional team and as long as they declare their intention to resume playing for their college team before the first day of the spring signing period, typically in April.
This year, men's basketball student-athletes wishing to retain their eligibility must withdraw from the NBA draft by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, April 10. This applies only to underclassmen who already have declared for the draft.
The NBA’s deadline for student-athletes to enter the draft is April 29. However, if underclassmen declare between April 11-29, they will relinquish any remaining college eligibility.
This timeline is due to a rule adopted by NCAA member schools in 2011. The rule change is designed to help student-athletes make a decision earlier than in the past to focus on either academics or athletics and also give coaches more flexibility with roster-planning and recruiting."
