Our New Floor
One thing I'm looking forward to next year is a new floor. The existing floor is tired and looks bad. I'm hoping the colors stay true on the new one, not yellowed like today. I think a navy blue border with Keaney blue letters would look good. I also like the idea of the RI in the center. It would be cool to have the ram logo in each lane. Has anyone heard or seen prototypes yet? I'm hoping we get to have some input on the final design.

Re: Our New Floor
Something that looks good on TV!!......maybe the "RI" University logo to go somewhere along with the Rhode Island map at mid court. Most of the new eyeballs brought to the screen will not recognize the map shape as being Rhode Island.....Do we have to have the CVS on the floor??......I suppose we do, but maybe not in the playing area......my guess is, this new design has already been settled, and a big announcement soon.....

Re: Our New Floor
I want something clean and classic looking. So many courts with there two tone finishes and too many schools overthinking the court (i.e. Oregon, Colorado State)
I would like to see the RI logo at center court and maybe some like what North Carolina does around it's out of bounds lines and under the hoop except with Keaney blue in lieu of Carolina blue.
Agree with you section105, it has to look good on tv.

How about a CVS logo on one corner and RITEAID on the next?
The noise level is deafening. Did Beltone pay to have it installed?
What is Carl Koussa doing sitting in the cheap seats? Should I give him my change?

Its amazing what a google search can do.... this is a proposed basketball court application from Hanley Creative who lists URI is their client.
EDIT: Just looked at the image info, the picture was dated as Monday, January 10, 2011 10:43:04 AM. Interesting to see at least....

I don't think Go Rhody or Runnin Rams will make the cut, though.

Wow that looks pretty good. I do agree the RI needs to be changed to look like the true logo. And go rhody and runnin rams should be excluded. But overall nice!

I like hoopz 14 shown one with gorhody's RI at center court. the darker wood is great. Not being a TV exec(but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last nite)me thinks that would look good on TV.

I would like to see RHODE ISLAND in big block letters on the baseline behind each basket. Make it simple but easily identifiable. The University of Rhode Island on the in bounds court is not prominent enough on its own.

I don't like much of anynthing about that sample court. I want to see 'Rhode Island' on the baseline under the hoops as one poster noted instead of 'Runnin Rams' and 'Go Rhody'. I also would rather see the conventional RI logo as another poster said.
Not a fan of that sample court, but it's a start.

It's OK...nothing to right home about. If we cannot remove a line from the court without it looking bad, we had better wait until we know the name of the league we are in, or we'll be stuck with that eyesore for a decade +. I know...right now we are staying in the A10...but who knows what's going to happen in the next 24-48 months with the A10.

Looks like a great start. Get rid of the running rams and go rhody. Running rams is in the past and go rhody is just lame. I like the idea of the symbol at half court but I agree the I is too small. Would love to see a new floor next year. I hope this isn't all just hype!

i do like the big ram as well, but you're right its time for a change. I just thought it was funny we were on there. maybe Thomas M. Ryan Center or just Ryan Center and Rhode Island across the baselines would look good?

Re: Our New Floor
Not trying to be a negative nancy, but how much does a new court cost?
The university has needed an outdoor track for something like 28 years!!!
It's an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE that a university like ours, with a championship track team no less,
doesn't have a track.
The football facilities are the worst in the country.
And if you want to spend money at the RC, there are other things to do IMHO before
replacing the floor. A video board at center court that everyone can see would be nice.

Re: Our New Floor
RR, what you said makes sense, but the BB program is driving the bus right now. Besides, it's by far the most visible sport [read: TV] that URI has right now, and for the forseeable future. The money from a successful BB program will help fund the other sports programs and their facilities going forward.
But I do agree, an outdoor track and tennis courts are sorely needed.
I think that URI's hiring of the Hurleys, will end up being one of the best investments the athletic program has ever made. Without it, forget it.
P.S. Without the Hurleys, I doubt URI would have stayed in the CAA in football either. It's the only chance that program has, to improve it's facilities.

Re: Our New Floor
OK, there will be a new scoreboard at some time in ther future.
They went to Lowell to look at a similar scoreboard to one they'd want.
With new materials, it would be light enough to be suitable for the Ryan.
There will be those lights that many newer arenas have that go around the arena on the facade of
the first balcony.
Football brings in nothing and costs over a million dollars a year. The track team doesn't make a dime, no matter how good.
Only basketbal through the Ryan Center has income possibilities, and the ability to bring URI to a regional and national player.
Anyone who was here for the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 knows, there's nothing better than winning.
That's why the floor and amenities at the building are important.

PC might have won the NIT a couple of times but Gavitt wasn't the coach. They didn't name it the Joe Mullaney Court. Keaney has a gym. I think that's all we need for now. I think the A10 logo stays in the paint as it is now & in evry other A10 arena.I think Rhode Island on one baseline & The Ryan Center on the opposite baseline would be OK.

We have great new tennis courts and a new tennis pavillion now.
Center hung scoreboard cannot be easily seen by fans in 100s sidelines or lower 200s. Just upgrade existing scoreboards to full-width HD LED like at Mullins or Conte.
LED "ribbon" around the upper deck facade will pay for itself over ti$e w increased premium sponsorships placed on it. The static backlit signs they currently have there don't attract any eyeballs.

Totally agree about the LED Ribbon ATP, I think that would be a nice touch. They also should get a video display for the scorers table instead of the rotating banners.ATPTourFan wrote:We have great new tennis courts and a new tennis pavillion now.

In regards to under the hoop I want something simple like 'Rhode Island' or 'Rams' centered under the hoop. I would like to see some marketing on the floor in front of scorers table. Maybe 'gorhody.com' or #gorhody etc.
Agree about the jumbrotron, doesnt seem feasible or necessary. Put in a giant hd tv where the big monitor is now and go from there. I was up in the 300's today and I had a tough time picturing a jumbotron being a good fit.

Here's the new LED based center scoreboard at Lowell's Tsongas Arena, a facility smaller than the Ryan Center and configured as a hockey-first (read, larger floor) facility. They say it weighs 18000 pounds.

Yeah, who'd want such a state of the art item at Ryan, when we can crank our necks around to
read little scoreboards stuck in the corners.
Almost every arena worth a damn has a big overhead scoreboard, with replay capabilities.
We can have that and some people find fault. So the people in the 300s can't see the other people in the 300's across the way.
Who cares?
I give up.

Was that the floor that was used for the Women's NCAA tourney last year? The reason I ask is because it has NCAA along the end lines and no advertising on the court.

I dont think so, because usually the NCAA tournament courts are just generic NCAA setups, and wouldnt have the school logo or name as prominent like that one does.
