Re: 2016 offseason odds and ends
Big time trivial question- when they were sophomores Matthews was always introduced first while Martin was always introduced last for the starting lineups. For the opening game, would you switch them to make Mathew's return more dramatic. Thoughts?

Absolutely 100%. Unless Dan doesn't start EC, and decides to bring him off the bench for the first game, which I think is a small possibility.neil wrote:Big time trivial question- when they were sophomores Matthews was always introduced first while Martin was always introduced last for the starting lineups. Very small. Interesting to think about.
EC and Hass got huge ovations at Rhody Madness. I'd like to just have EC announced last in the first starting lineup.

Re: 2016 offseason odds and ends
No way DH doesn't start the 5 best players.
Martin
Mathews
Iverson
Garrett
Terrell
Lot of talent will be battling for playing time all season long

Re: 2016 offseason odds and ends
Just saying maybe he brings EC off the bench for the first game, due to rust, being too anxious, nervous, round of applause when he checks in, etc.ramster wrote:No way DH doesn't start the 5 best players.

Plus the applause for when he checks into the game for the first time would be unreal..
Obviously I believe he will start, I was just throwing out an alternative.

Re: 2016 offseason odds and ends
Well that certainly is interesting. After the loss to UMass Dan was ready to jump ship.
And apparently Hass is 6-10 now....

I take a lot of this stuff as PR and myth-making. I'm fine with it, I just would not take all of it as objectively and completely factual.PeterRamTime wrote:Well that certainly is interesting. After the loss to UMass Dan was ready to jump ship.

Re: 2016 offseason odds and ends
Dan certainly was frustrated at that point....ready to jump ship?
I doubt that.
He didn't reject the Rutgers offer out of hand though, he did consider it.
How seriously he considered it, is the question......
Anyway, doesn't matter now.

Re: 2016 offseason odds and ends
Yeah zags didn't quote him on any of that. But I could totally see Dan getting very emotional after tha A-10 tourney last year and feeling the way Zags felt he was. Probably not for very long though. Because it really makes little sense to leave Rhody for Rutgers. As we all know. Especially now.

Oooh, the drama as to who gets announced when. I think Donald Trump is the PA announcer and he'll "keep us in suspense."neil wrote:Big time trivial question- when they were sophomores Matthews was always introduced first while Martin was always introduced last for the starting lineups. It's nice to hear them be positive about URI for once. That Cincy game will set the tone for entire season.ace wrote:radio interview from the weekend if you didn't hear it live-

Re: 2016 offseason odds and ends
Thanks for posting CT Rhody,
Good write ups on the 5 new players on this year's team.
I found it interesting that 3 of the 5 Players are Juniors ( in name)
The fathers of the 3 are:
Jeffrey Dowtin Sr
Cyril Langevine Sr
Michael Layssard Sr
The write up on Jeffrey Dowtin was good, but did mention his passing ability. Having seen him play, I think his court awareness, baskeball IQ, ability to run the break and find the open man, to past first and dribble last are areas that stand out to me. I think he is going to be a very exciting player to watch at URI for all 4 years. He also has long arms, excellent timing and will steal a lot of passes over the course of his career.

I also read that we have a secret scrimmage with St. Johns next week. Not sure if that had been posted here yet.

Re: 2016 offseason odds and ends
All three road OOC games are going to be pretty difficult especially if we're ranked. I'm fairly optimistic we'll beat Providence because not only are we a much better team but Hurley is due for a win against them. If we're still ranked going into Valpo and Houston then those games will certainly be very good tests.

Re: 2016 offseason odds and ends
I woke up this morning from a dream where Felger and Mazz were discussing URI's chances for this season. Felger thinks they're going to make the tournament but Mazz was doing his "I just don't know Mike" bit. Clearly this offseason has been too long and this last week and a half is going to be brutal. Time to listen to last night's radio show to try and hold me over for the day.

I know they've heard of us because when the Louisville escort scandal broke they were talking about how we probably brought recruits to Foxy Lady or something like that.
