I see URI ranked between 15-25 in these polls that aren't worth the paper they are printed on. That would put URI somwhere between a 4-6 seed in the NCAA tournament. Just not sure how URI can get up to that sort of seeding unless URI goes something like 25-5 the way the OOC schedule is shaping up coupled with being in a mid major conference.
There isn't always a direct correlation to final poll rankings and NCAA seeds. Esp when it comes to non P5 schools. You have to factor in teams that come in and out of rankings and conference tourney results which disrupt things.

I think we have really improved the Jint defense for this season and should be a solid contender for the NFC East.
I know...should have asked him a lot of things...was on my way to walk on the bike path (I work from home but try get in 3 miles every day) - he asked me if I was leaving, seemed kinda stressed trying to find a parking spot to catch a train...I had a limited window between conference calls...
Hopefully, the Jints can contend this year....can't think about it too much now...I love football and basketball, but the biggest problem with that... = winter .... not a fan. So, hopefully, the Sox can get back on course.
Kinda looks that way now...from the Kingston Amtrak station to the Barclay's Center (with a little subway thrown in for fun). Same route we took to the A10 tourney....
Saw him projected as high as mid twenties so that has to be seen as a disappointment. Have to think he could have improved his stock significantly by returning to PC to work on his ball skills, and in the process put together another year dominating the BE.
Yes all 4 freshmen are now here and on campus. They will begin summer session 2 on Monday as well as begin workouts with the team. We officially have a full roster again!!!!

The fact that Dan has got this program to a point where we're a part of these types of articles in the offseason is mindblowing from where and when he took over.
If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.
Absolutely.
Some very nice publicity from being in the preseason Top 25.
Any publicity is helpful as we go full speed ahead on the summer recruiting cycle
As cheesy as this sounds, I'd be pretty pumped if that Collective Soul song came on at the Ryan Center right after EC drops 25 points and the opposing team has to call a time out.
5 seed is pretty good "respeck" but idk if I want Wichita State in a 5/12 game. If this were a gameshow and I had to choose between taking that and holding out for something better (or at least something else), I'd take my chances and keep playing.

This is all hypothetical conjecture because the only thing this guy predicting us to play Wichita State in a 5/12 game ensures is that we won't play Wichita State in a 5/12 game. I'm just saying, in this hypothetical, I'd probably have a 6 seed and go up against one of the last P5 programs in, like a Cal or a Washington St. or Texas A&M or Florida State or someone that went .500 in their league and was gifted a berth as opposed to a team like Wichita State that always seems to overachieve and is probably greatly underseeded. More of a fun point about 5/12 game history and my respect for the Shockers' program.
Obviously I'd be thrilled if we end up with a 5 seed and won't care who we play.

Everything about any preseason or even in season Joe Lunardi NCAA prediction bracket would be hypothetical. I'd assume he took into consideration Wichita State's history of Tournament performance.
Last year WSU was 11th seeded and upset 6th seed Arizona so there's that. WSU has a history of good performance in the Tournament
But WSU lost a lot
Baker and VanVleet were Wiclhita State's two leading scorers and both were Seniors. Grady was also a Senior who was their 4th leading scorer. Not a stellar 2016 recruiting class.
But URI will start 3 Seniors and 2 Juniors and Robinson, a Senior level player, off the Bench as it stands now. Others could and should vie for those spots and Playing time of course, but I'm optimistic that a 5-seed is not a reach and a reach would be higher than 5 for us.
This is a period when many players go for the gold and opt for a professional career early. Dunn and Bentil a local example where PC was decimated.
Will be an interesting year with Obadiah's prediction thread for sure.

Amazing ! Only in Kingston where a fan of a team that has not made the tournament in nearly twenty years taking shots at a team coming off a national championship.

Amazing! An asshole fan of an asshole school looking for an argument on another team's board.
Nova is usually beaten by a lower seed within the first couple of rounds of the tourney, it's just a fact. Most neutral fans predict that in their brackets since it's been such a trend recently minus last year of course which they had a fantastic run at.

A final four and a national championship in the last ten years seems like a pretty good run to me . Granted they are not a Kentucky or Duke type school. But any fan base not happy with that had issues.

I concur, I would easily take that, 95-98% of the fans of others programs in the country would take that. Just stating that they do get upset early in the tournament a lot more often then they should but that is a good problem to have coming from a program that hasn't even made the tournament in 10+ years.
We are entitled to blindly hate all teams in the big east.....

Pretty accurate summary of what has to happen to make the upcoming season a fun one-
Rhode Island: Getting Matthews healthy for the start of the season and finding the optimal mix of scoring and playmaking with which to surround him will be the mission this summer in Rhode Island. If Hurley can do that, and get his guys to defend the way they did in 2014-15—when they ranked ninth in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency, according to Kenpom.com—this team can earn and maintain a spot in the top 25 of the polls.

He lives in Newport in the summer and is always seen around town. Nice guy.
