Yep totally noticed that!
I also dislike it.
It's just kinda dumb.
the
MADE IN MARCH
ones are better.
Which I guess are addidas?

For the kinda dough these companies generate, one would think they could come up with individual themes for teams, especially in the Gadget Age....
Although I mentioned Under Armour, I wouldn't mind having Nike again....The unis and gear under CFL were bottom of the barrel, but if we jumped on board with Nike now, I think it would be a much different story.
I really liked our adidas uniforms this year, but their premier teams all wear those horrendous shorts with the bar around them under the waistband. I don't know who designed or approved those abominations, but if that is what they are dressing their premier programs in I would rather stay in whatever tier they have us in now.

Aren't cummerbunds supposed to be above the waistline and not mid-ass, anyways? I am so confused by exactly what in the hell the designers of those shorts were thinking, but there had to have been drugs involved.

I used to be against the faded graphic on the back of jerseys ,but theirs a lot of customizing that can be done and now I think it's awesome. Imagine the Rhode Island on the front, then the ram logo or the RI flag or just the anchor on the back. Truly representing URI as THE state school in a keaney blue color.
URI will ink new four year deal with Adidas. Adidas segments all the CBB schools they supply and URI will be in the top category along with the likes of Miami, UCLA, Louisville, etc.
Gear, $, access to the gear for fans, probably a dedicated spot in Adidas summer camp, marketing. I bet they continue to have a national act for Midnight Madness.
These are all guesses based on my following these deals in news articles over the years. Adidas released new uniforms in March for Miami, I know that.
The dreaded Cumberbund.
I hope that this means that URI basketball gear is listed on Adidas' website with the Kansas and Louisvilles. Will be great to just pick up shirts and things easily.

is this definitive ?
what are our thoughts on this ?
tier 1 is nice; but I prefer to be w/ nike.
i guess i can't argue tho if we are to be treated at the top
That assumes Nike would have us in tier 1. I trust that if we're staying with adidas it is because being in their top tier is better then whatever deal Nike was offering.

Agreed, I'd have to think that we would have gone to Nike had they agreed to make us a tier 1 team. I've got to believe that Nike was offering a lesser deal compared to what we ultimately agreed to with Adidas.
I think opinions may be across the board on this, but I'd like to see a similar version of last season's jerseys. I thought that those were the best that we've had in years. But, if we do change, please no cumberbund.
I agree. We talked about some pretty solid changes they could make but the only real change they have to make to the jerseys are making the white and Keaney blue jerseys available for sale

Agree, I thought last year's were good...then again, thought the year before was good...anything but the c-bun.

The last two seasons were definitely good. There aren't too many options that I can see being better than last seasons especially.
but being tier 1 should get us something a little better but along the same theme
before last years unis came out i posted a link about the charlotte hornets unis and the multi colors on the name/numbers and said that we should do something like that.. which they did
ElmCityRhody wrote:but i will continue to say that if you aren't nike then you're nothing !
I agree. We don't want to lower ourselves to having the same apparel provider as dogshit basketball programs like Kansas, Indiana and UCLA. What have they ever won?
Personally, I'd prefer Nike to adidas, too, all things being equal. But things are not equal. URI is almost obligated to go with whoever gives us the best deal, first of all. And second of all, you're the one who is always talking about taking control of our branding, to the point of starting a thread about fonts, and now you're arguing you'd rather be a second class citizen at Nike where you're guaranteed to get cookie-cutter gear instead of being top-tier at adidas where you may be able to have a little more access to their design teams to do some customizations? All so you can have the honor of wearing a check on your shorts? That is a remarkable lack of consistency.

I think it is also important to point out that Dan had it put into his contract that basketball could negotiate separately from the rest of the athletic department who we used, and the theory was he did that so he could move away from adidas. So if that's true and we're staying they must have offered us not just a matching deal to Nike or other companies bidding but a better deal then anyone else. Normally it's a good idea to take the better deal.

I'm surprised at this mainly b/c I thought DH wanted out of the Addidas contract. So why would they continue unless DH changed his mind or he was more than satisfied with the new contract?
Bleed Keaney Blue!
”I'm not coming there to be in the top 3 of the Atlantic 10. I'm coming to win the damn thing!”
Nike makes it really hard to stay with unless you're one of their elite programs. Look at the deal Under Armour just gave Cal. They were getting $150,000/yr from Nike before, now they'll get $3.5mil/yr from UA. Pretty hard to turn that type of increase in revenue down! Makes me really wonder what Adidas is giving us financially!
