Re: 2016 NCAA Tournament Game Discussion
All the headlines read Gonzaga upsets Seton Hall. 11th seed beats 6 seed.
Truth is Gonzaga was favored in the game by 1-2 points
Tells you all you need to know about the NCAA selection and seeding process when you look at the true predictor of outcomes - the betting lines
Maybe Vegas should pick the field and do the seeding

Re: 2016 NCAA Tournament Game Discussion
NCAA is all about politics and money.
That's why a 6th or 7th place P5 team gets in over a team like Monmouth, or St. Bonaventure.
Not only will it not change, it probably will get worse.
Same for the seeding. P5 teams that should be a 10 or 11, get a 5 or 6. And they go out and promptly lose to an 11 or 12.
The middle of the P5 conferences are grossly overrated. They beat each other. So what? They get rewarded for being in a so called "power" conference.
If URI was in a P5 conference, and went 9-9, they would be a 6 seed. A lot of those 9 wins would be wins against other mediocre teams with RPIs that aren't realistic. And URI's would be too.

Anyone have any insight into getting tickets for the weekend games in Providence? I'd love to take my son, but stub-hub has them starting at $300 each. A bit rich for me.

Download the stubhub app on your phone, go into the city for an early lunch, and monitor the ticket prices. Normally they crater before the start time.

Re: 2016 NCAA Tournament Game Discussion
Yea stubhubs prices drop significantly an hour before tip off and I've noticed closer to game time a lot more tickets will show up on the site. Right now it looks like there are ~50 tickets available but I think that number will be much higher come late tonight/tomorrow morning. The other option would be to buy tickets from a scalper. I was at session 2 last night and the guys sitting behind me were saying they paid under face value from a scalper 10 min before tip.RhowdyRam02 wrote:Download the stubhub app on your phone, go into the city for an early lunch, and monitor the ticket prices. Also regarding the seeding by the NCAA, Wichita State (11) is currently favored over Miami (3) which goes to show just how bad some of the seedings are.

It's March and it's Madness, no other answers to it.
Committee gets a few wins and they keep getting to do their thing.
Hurts everyone else that Dayton is getting smashed by Cuse right now.
Committee can ignore its March and crazy things happen, and just point at the scoreboard.
They got to do the same thing with UCLA last year.

Syracuse has just been very inconsistent this entire year but when they play at their best they're definitely a better team than Dayton. Dayton just got very unlucky having to play cuse.sf2010 wrote:holy shit Dayton sucks. They are looking horrific against 'cuse. Which sucks because Syracuse had no business being in the tournament

Can't shoot 28% from the field, 26% from three, and 50% from the line and win many 7/10 games. Sometimes, it's as simple as that. Syracuse isn't playing out of their mind other than Richardson.

Re: 2016 NCAA Tournament Game Discussion
Not really a surprising result with the way Dayton played for most of the last month or so, I actually had this one called on my bracket. I wonder if the committee specifically picked this matchup with the thought being that one of their more controversial P5 picks should at least hang in if not beat a strugging A10 team.

If Syracuse does not belong in the Tournament then it is scary to think about what that says about Dayton.

Ahhh, you forget. There's no way to simulate the Syracuse zone. You don't see it in the regular season and then you have to shoot against it in a high-pressure NCAA tournament game. Start missing a few...the rim shrinks...and the players begin to tighten up and get frustrated.
Long live the Syracuse 2-3 zone!

Good work by VCU in the first half. Gotta think they're the best chance for the A10 to get a team to the second week

Some of these P5 teams should have stayed home. Vitale got it right.
There should be a limit on how many invites a P5 league can get. These 6th/7th place teams have no business being there.

Re: 2016 NCAA Tournament Game Discussion
Great win by 10 Seed VCU - Will Wade is a very smart coach. Would not be surprised to see VCU go Sweet 16 and beyond
Bad loss by 7 Seed Dayton to Syracuse who many said did not belong in the tournament
College Basketball is amazing and March is awesome
How about Hawaii possibly about to beat 4-Seed Cal leading by 6 with 3 minutes to go?
Middle Tennessee playing very well and could upset 2-Seed Michigan State as they are up 6 early in the 2nd half
I would not sleep on 14-Seed Stephen F Austin against 3-Seed West Virginia - this is my upset pick of the tournament. I think SF Austin was seed much too low and they will be mad as a hornet.
Did not think I would say this but I will be rooting for St Joe tonight

Watching the games at the Dunk yesterday was an absolute blast! Saw some great games and teams. Wichita St impressed me the most.
As for the upsets today got to give Hawaii credit, but it sucks Cal lost their leading scorer with a freak accident in practice yesterday. If Michigan State losses my bracket is done!!

Re: 2016 NCAA Tournament Game Discussion
Interesting interview with Upshaw after the game. Middle Tennessee attacked the pressure twice at the end of the game once with an aggressive push and the 2nd with the long ball over the top of the press. He said they practice those situations every day. That's how it's done! Outstanding!
Got my new favorite team in this tourney!
Attack and play without fear! Next year that is us!!!

What a shame about West Virginia.
Love to see those former Atlantic 10 schools go down. (Yes, I carry grudges forever.) And the fact that Thuggins is the coach makes it even better.
BTW, what's his due date? It looked like he was wearing a maternity blouse.

Awesome tournament!
I always root for the underdog. So I couldn't be having more fun.
Congrats to St.Joies the a-10 really needed that win. 2 out of 3, in 7-10 seed games is quite respectable for the league.
With URI's future extremely bright, in spite of the pc nitwit simpletons that crawl to our board from time to time, do I dare say here I'll be pulling for the pc flyers this evening. Strong URI RAM and pc flyer teams is actually good for both schools.

Re: 2016 NCAA Tournament Game Discussion
I will be imagining that my URI Rams are playing the Fryazzzz tonight and trying to get to the Sweet 16.
Similarities to the North Carolina Tar Heels
There are several similarities between the Rhode Island Rams and the North Carolina Tar Heels.
1. The schools share nearly identical colors, though Carolina Blue is slightly lighter than Keaney Blue.
2. Both have rams as mascots, though for different reasons: URI chose the mascot as a homage to URI's agricultural heritage, while Rameses was chosen as a homage to Jack Merritt, the "Battering Ram."
3. The songs "I'm A Tar Heel Born" and "Rhode Island Born" are nearly identical, with "A Tar Heel" replacing "Rhode Island in the first half of the song, and "Car'lina-lina" replacing "Go Rhode Island" in the second half."
4. My favorite team in all of sports (College, Professional, High School) is the URI Basketball team. My second favorite team is whoever is playing the Fryazzz

Do you think there will be future change in how the NCAA seeds/and or selects more mid majors, due to the results in this tournament?
Not a chance.
Speaking of tough losses, Shaka's teams have met a bitter end the last couple of times he's been to the Dance.
You spend all season building a resume worthy of making the tournament, and you're done in a split second. It's over.
Not a chance.
