Re: Week # 9 - Games of Interest
To follow up GW the other night, Dayton loses to a very bad LaSalle team today. Goes to show that road games in conference, no matter who you play, are never a gimme.
Not a good look for the conference, which at least early, seems to be cannibalizing itself with very bad losses for probable tournament teams. Dayton is still likely a top 25 RPI team, but a bad look today nonetheless. The bright spot in this is, the conference continues to look more wide open every single day, which is a good thing for us in attempting to win the league. Bad news is, doesn't seem to be many opportunities for true marquee wins like other power conference bubble teams may have. Come Monday, there won't be any top 25 teams in the A-10.
How does the old saying go, "Just win, baby"...

Re: Week # 9 - Games of Interest
Crazy start to conference play. As far as the conference goes, better Dayton and GW lose to a bottom team than us, st joes or vcu. GW and Dayton have wins over top teams to offset those losses. Let's worry about beating Dayton before we worry about whether it will be considered a marquee win or not.

Re: Week # 9 - Games of Interest
Dayton looked terrible today. They couldn't buy a basket. Lasalle went to a slow down offense with their
guard dribbling or just standing with the ball until 10 seconds were left on the clock for each possession. It
was a similar look to what JG did a few times against Richmond ( hold the ball and go one on one to the rim).
It clearly threw off Dayton's rhythm.

TCU gets a win over Shaka's Texas Longhorns. Iona beat Marist and Davidson beat GMU.
GW handling Duquesne. Just found out the Dukes lost their best player to an ACL a few weeks ago. Don't know how many here had known about that.

Re: Week # 9 - Games of Interest
Recapping Saturday results in the A-10. The big winner was St. Bonaventure winning its fourth straight and Dayton was the big loser with its upset loss to La Salle which will surely cost the Flyers their #25 ranking.
* Davidson squeezed by George Mason, 81-75. The Patriots led by 9 in the second and held a one point lead with 3 minutes left when Jack Gibbs made a traditional three point play to give Davidson a lead it would not relinquish. Gibbs later also put in four straight FT's to cement the victory.
* GW came back from their debacle in Saint Louis to smack Duquesne, 92-64. Duquesne lost it fourth straight game since senior forward Jeremiah Jones went down in the game against Robert Morris with an ACL tear in his right knee. Jones had made 84 consecutive starts for the Dukes and was the third leading scorer with 9.6 ppg. Jones was one of the first recruits brought in by Jim Ferry.
URI OOC Opponents go 5-4 on the day:
* #3 Maryland edged Wisconsin on a Melo Trimble trey with 1.2 seconds remaining to lift the Terrapins to the win, 63-60.
* D2 Daniel Webster at Brown easily beats D3 Daniel Webster, 69-43. Cedric Kuakumensah had 18 rebounds for the Bruins.
* Bucknell routs Holy Cross, 98-71. The Bisons led by 22 at the half.
* Milwaukee edges Cleveland State, 65-62.
* Iona struggled most of the game, but finally puts away lowly Marist, 90-80.
* Nebraska trounces Rutgers, 90-56. But then who hasn't?
* TCU takes its first win over Texas in twenty years, 58-57.
* Fairfield slips by Rider, 69-64.
* Old Dominion falls at lowly Southern Mississippi, 73-71.

Pollard did not play for Dayton today which is the second straight game he has missed. He has a sore achilles.

Re: Week # 9 - Games of Interest
It's the Sunday of the Ram today in the A-10 as all three Rams - the Southern Rams, the Northern Rams and the Metro Rams - are in action and on TV all afternoon:
* Rhode Island at Saint Joseph's. 12 noon. On NBC Sports. URI is 2-0 in conference and both wins came at the Ryan Center, but can the Rams maintain their better shooting and win on the road??
* Richmond at Fordham. 2 PM. On NBC Sports. Richmond has won nine straight in the series and after two conference losses can the Spiders beat back a resurgent Fordham team on their Rose Hill court.?
* VCU at Saint Louis. 4PM. On NBC Sports. Was the GW win just a fluke or is there more to the Billikens than they showed in their earlier five game losing streak??
Only one game involving URI OOC Opponents:
* Valparaiso at Detroit. 1 PM. On ESPN3.

Re: Week # 9 - Games of Interest
With first place in the Horizon on the line Valparaiso goes into Detroit's home court and builds a huge lead from the start ending the first half with a 21 point bulge. Detroit made a second half surge that reduced Valpo's big lead to just seven points with about 7 minutes left in game, but the Titans could get no further, and the Crusaders won big, 92-74.

Re: Week # 9 - Games of Interest
Another Ram team bites the dust as Richmond wins at Fordham, 93-82 on the strength of a 35 point contribution from ShawnDre' Jones who put in trey after trey at critical points to stifle Fordham's comeback attempts.

Re: Week # 9 - Games of Interest
This VCU-Saint Louis game makes no sense at all. It's 29-25 at the half.
20 of Saint Louis' 25 points are from free throw, and they were once down by 17.

SLU might be feisty, which would be nice with a win in hand over them.
