Think that Coach will have 'em up big time, whatever size crowd will be into it early as we jump on them....

Re: Rider Game
Hoping it is the Rider that Cleve State beat and not the Rider that was up against Maryland in the second half.
If Rhody can avoid foul trouble in the first half of games, I think they should play more of their big line up. KI and Earl have earned more minutes and Four and JT have earned less minutes.

As they say follow the money- Latest Vegas Line has Rhody -13.
Sounds as if these people are not overreacting to the Maryland game.

I expect a close game in the first half, possibly trailing at the half, then pick it up in 2nd half and win by 8 (67-59)luke wrote:I expect a very good game against Rider. They will be focused and attacking them early.

Re: Game 6: Rider (Sun Nov 29 2pm CoxHub.com)
Yuck. 8 points? Isn't this supposed to be an "easy" game? Heh heh.
This is where we stand:
Against the "cupcakes" on our schedule, there really is no pressure on us.
Our defense turns them over, we make more layups, our shooting percentages look good.
We have a clear talent advantage.
Against teams similar in talent, the pressure increases.
Our defense keeps us in the game. We don't shoot well from the field or the line, but we can win those games at times, at the end when someone like Four can make a shot, as he demonstrated against TCU.
Now against teams that are clearly better [and bigger] than us, like Maryland, the pressure really ramps up.
Our defense gets overwhelmed. We can't hit the side of a barn. We have no chance.
This is where we're at. Even if we had EC, it's not enough to overcome our shooting issues.
In short, we can compete in our own conference, where the talent is similar. We will win most of our games, but of course struggle against the better teams.
I don't care if it's still early in the season. We've seen the future [the rest of this season] and it's not pretty.
If we had EC, we would have a chance against PC. Without him, it's not looking good.

It's very difficult to read your posts and not think we're 0-5. Hoping to win a few games this year and with a little luck our coach will get fired and a new coach will come in next year and within a couple years we'll be back to .500 and moving in the right direction.
Rambone, WE'RE DOOMED BRO go follow the Celts post the same thing over and over on their message board. Give us RAM FANS a break from your I'm a looser everything I'm involved with needs to be a loser for me to feel good crap.

I'm not a shrink but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Where's my CYO Champ Trophy I must left it in the hotel room. DAMIT!

Leave me alone I'm driving 70 miles an hour to recover my CYO trophy from the hotel room. I don't need you telling me it's gone, the maid took it, the hotels going to catch on fire, the hotel is going to blow up, the night manager broke it, I'll be arrested for driving too fast, I'll crash, I'll get shot, kidnaped or knifed on the way there. I'm DOOMED.
Rambone think positive. I will recover THE TROPHY!

Hoping for a good offensive game from JT. No one worked harder to get in shape. People on this board have praised his work ethic and leadership skills. He will find his shot! Don't quit on him. I know he hasn't quit on himself. Go JT! Go Rhody!

Re: Game 6: Rider (Sun Nov 29 2pm CoxHub.com)
Bone so 5 games in and we are what we are with no chance for improvement unless Larry Bird walks through the door? Is that your prognosis? Something tells me Jarvis isn't a 20% shooter from 3 and Hassan is capable of a lot more than he showed against MD.....same for Terrell. Iverson getting better with Every game. Call me an optimist but I don't think our coach should throw in the towel on trying to improve our offensive efficiency.

Thx BAR. I just posted that in another thread. The small sample does not support this doom and gloom over the offensive struggles thus far.

Re: Game 6: Rider (Sun Nov 29 2pm CoxHub.com)
Hey, show us something and this stuff will end......
Some of us think we'll get better on offense, and some of us don't.
I will agree that performance against Maryland [JT and JG] is about as bad as it can get.
Nowhere to go but up.
And if we play well against Rider and Holy Cross, that doesn't mean much.
The PC game, and the couple after that will really tell......
That comment by Hurley kinds of sums things up, doesn't it? "incredibly disappointed"
no need to hide his feelings....

I need to see a better performance from everyone to gain some confidence in this team. As of NOW, even with EC, I don't see a top 25 team in anyway. Just being honest.

What are people thinking of the line today? URI is -11.5.
URI did beat American and Cleveland State by double digits and Rider should be no different. I do wonder if there maybe a hangover following the Maryland loss.
Regardless, URI should beat up on an inferior team, Rhody -11.5.

If the fog from the Terps game has not cleared, and we let Rider hang around into the second half, to me that spells a Rider cover. We a step on them early and often, of not........

Rider has a freshman point guard, Kaelen Ives, who starred at Classical High School before going to Putnam Science Acsdemy for a post grad year.
Kid must be pretty pumped to be playing in RI, I'm assuming he has a bunch of friends and family coming.
Let's cheer for the kid when he checks in!

Re: Game 6: Rider (Sun Nov 29 2pm CoxHub.com)
I really like this approach for Thompson and Akele. Not so much to find out if they can play, I believe they will be good. But it's clear, especially with Thompson, that confidence is an issue, so games like this one are important to bring him along. I don't care about lines, spreads and Vegas, I will gladly take a 1 point win today that helps to develop our young guys over a 25 point win that doesn't move things forward.NYGFan_Section208 wrote:Need to take advantage of any and all opportunities to develop Christion Thompson...let him miss a few shots ...find out if he can play

Re: Game 6: Rider (Sun Nov 29 2pm CoxHub.com)
Agree with everyone that thinks we need to get something out of Thompson and Akele. We cannot expect our 'BEST' players to play 37-38 minutes of hard nosed defense, night after night and expect them to have their legs and be able to shoot. (Not that they are shooting well at the beginning of the games.)
Assuming the above, here are some thoughs--------------so let's assume 32 minutes on average for the starting five, that leaves 40 minutes for Watson, Thompson and Akele, or likely 10 min each for Thompson and Akele and 20 for Watson.
My thought to keep some appropriate scoring, playmaking and height on the floor at all times, maybe we relook at the rotation and the "starting five"
For example, start Thompson and bring Kuran off the bench who can come in for any of the players and bring in offensive punch if we are off to a slow start. Maybe when Akele is in, they use his height and wingspan along with Kuran to play a trapping 1-3-1 with the height out front . In other words, let's use existing attributes. (eg wingspan) before they are "polished" players.
(Ed Note. I did notice that coach K and Duke were playing a trapping 1-3-1)
