Great! That's all you can ask for is a kid to visit here.
It gives Dan and staff a fighting chance to convince a player
to enroll at URI.
Plus, the good bunch of kids we have on the team,
is a big plus at making a newbie welcome.

I haven't done the analysis to know exactly what our hit rate is, but my feeling is this staff does well once we get the player to campus.

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
It think it depends what type of visit it is or the purpose of it, but that might be accurate. They've had guys on campus for unofficials, sometimes as part of a group, that they know they likely won't get. It's more to show off the program, have the coaches talk about how they do things and develop players, start to build relationships with schools/programs, that kind of stuff. Abu tagging along with Jared and Enoch are probably two good examples of that. They're certainly hoping that this year is different as far as being able to count on a good environment for game day official visits, if it works with the recruit's schedule. Rhode Island starts later than some schools, so the September visits get pushed back a little. No use scheduling an official if everyone isn't there.TruePoint wrote:I haven't done the analysis to know exactly what our hit rate is, but my feeling is this staff does well once we get the player to campus.

True, Ace. And I believe fall semester classes don't begin at URI until September 9th with move-in beginning on Saturday, September 5th.
And I didn't mean to jump on your post concerning Moss yesterday.

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
There's a few vids of Cyril posted on YouTube including a video of a backboard shattering dunk.
I think we (URI) maybe ahead of the curve here; I've read in various places that there's an expectation that Cyril's recruiting will blow up during the season. Maybe that's why he's visiting us now and we can get an early comittment from him.

As for Cyril, he's incorrectly classified in some mentions as a '17, but he's a senior this year and is not expected to do a post-grad year.

If it did happen I'd bet it was just an unofficial. Not sure how much this staff would gain from an official visit when the campus is basically dead right now.

I doubt he ever did. Monmouth?
Aren't we a step or two above them?
The silence lately is deafening. Something is up I would think.

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
Get him along with Layssard, grab the best PG they can,
and use the 4th scholarship on the best player available.
Somehow, I don't see that being Butts.
All that would make 2016 recruiting highly successful.

I'm still holding out hope for Painter. He alone would make it a tremendous class.rodfromcranston wrote:Get him along with Layssard, grab the best PG they can,

If we were to land Langevine along with Layssard, then that may cause Butts to reopen his recruitment and look into other options.

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
A note on his school- the Patrick School came about following the closing of St. Patrick's, whose basketball team was led by the infamous Kevin Boyle. The archdiocese closed St. Patrick's, but there was enough commitment from families and staff, plus donations and grants, to keep the school together in a different form. It's also where DeAndre Bembry graduated from.

If we get this kid, already looking like we're recruiting over Berry. Not saying it's a bad thing, but I wonder what he's thinking. Just judging by a little research, definetly want these two kids over Berry.

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
I don't necessarily think that's true. Berry will be a junior when the '16s are freshmen, and they graduate two bigs this season. The roster has been guard heavy, mainly because those were the best players they could get, so there's room. Everyone will get a chance to earn their minutes, which is all a player can ask for.Rhody15 wrote:If we get this kid, already looking like we're recruiting over Berry. Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
I agree. Even if Berry's ceiling isn't as high (and that's a big if, since we haven't seen these guys in A10 action yet) as a Junior with A10 and Ram experience it helps to have talented players developing other talented players.ace wrote:I don't necessarily think that's true. Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
The feeling locally is that Langevine is kind of underrated nationally. Either way, I think he would be a good pick-up. His teammate Bryce Aiken (a 4 star pg) is down to Harvard, Miami, and Seton Hall and is expected to make his choice soon, too.
I saw a very early preseason poll that had The Patrick School at #3 in Jersey (Roselle Catholic is at #1, St. Anthony is at #2).
