Tirone Leaves Program
Been off for most of the summer, but saw this tweet from Koch tonight...
Both DOBO spots are now open, with Enright leaving earlier this offseason. Not sure of any details why Tirone left yet, but I'm sure with the connects a lot of you guys have, some info will come out in the coming days. Enjoy what's left the holiday weekend everyone!

I wonder if this is where Ty Boswell comes aboard?

Assuming that position is higher than "entry-level" so might not be an opening for TJ?

If Boswell was getting that position, I would have hoped he'd deliver Tyrique Jones.

I guess this basically leaves Carr as the last man standing of the original Hurley circle.
Maybe he will take Tirone's position?

Re: Tirone Leaves Program
Well, DBOs can't recruit.
So, having Boswell as DBO doesn't make sense.
What could make sense would be to move Carr
to DBO, but swap salaries with the incoming coach.
Carr surely won't take the big cut to DBO, but
Boswell might make more money anyway, than he does
with Expressions.
A little creative juggling here, could bring desired results.

I feel like DBO might be a little too big of a position for TJ to take without any experience in the coaching ranks

There's a Graduate Assistant opening. Gotta start at the bottom.

Yea, that's definitely more realistic. As much as TJ is loved and respected, think DBO goes to someone with a lot more experience.rodfromcranston wrote:There's a Graduate Assistant opening. Gotta start at the bottom.

Actually from what I have heard, EBo has been doing the things the old GA was doing. Though I'm not sure if this means he'll be taking that position.

Who?
According to GoRhody, the two openings are DBO and Assistant DBO.
So, how long is Chris Martin going to be Graduate manager?
He'll be into he 3rd year, if he's staying as GA.

EBo is Eric Youncofski's nickname, I think it is likely or at least makes sense that Martin moves up to one of the openings. That's speculation on my part. But I know for a fact that Eric has been heavily involved with the team this summer.

Unless that's somehow changed, I can't see
Dan passing him over for Youncofski.

Good thing, Smarty. Bressler's not even associated with Bressler anymore. Told it was too childish. (Amongst other things…)SmartyBarrett wrote:

Youncofski's brother is on the staff at Cincinatti. He is a hardworker and should be a fast riser in the college ranks. Is it possible that TJ wants to go overseas and make some money playing before he starts his coaching career?

In other coaching staff news, I'm hearing that Hurley has bought a million dollar house in EG.

This isn't a player depth chart, anymore. The DBO is not an inconsequential job and really should go to the best guy, not the better player. Compliance, travel, etc....all very detailed oriented tasks. Maybe TJ is the right guy but I wouldn't view it as passing anyone over.rodfromcranston wrote:TJ told me he wanted the GA job.

TJ would have been Graduate Manager, not DBO.
It seemed something that everyone was in agreement on.

Graduate manager goes to school for free but doesn't get paid. As we know, TJ has a young family.

Re: Tirone Leaves Program
I don't know. Seems pretty practical (if you can hack it) to play Euroball (even the lower levels) and bank as much dough as possible in your 20s. Hopefully, take time in the offseason or summer leagues to develop other professional, off court relationships that can pay dividends when the checks stop coming in from playing. Starting the nomadic life of a college assistant at the entry level of a graduate assistant when your earnings potential is 10x is a very tough choice to make. For every Dan Hurley there are 1000 guys sleeping on couches trying to make ends meet while climbing the ladder. And that's hard enough to do when you don't have kids.rodfromcranston wrote:TJ would have been Graduate Manager, not DBO.

Re: Tirone Leaves Program
Given the choice between becoming a GA or getting paid to travel the world playing basketball, there is no choice. It would have been a huge mistake to pass up that opportunity at this point. The window to start your coaching career basically never closes, but it's now or never to keep playing.

As far as I know, it's a brand new house, but not
one that was specifically custom built.
It had a MLS listing.

Re: Tirone Leaves Program
Tirone left for a company in Boston that runs basketball events.
Can't speculate on why he left but I will say that DBO is a tough job, long hours, relatively thankless and not much $$$. Tirone probably made about $35k last year.
I suspect there is significant turnover in this position.

Re: Tirone Leaves Program
I just hope there are no internal issues with the program that are causing people to leave it.
Have no basis in fact in that regard, just a concern.
RJ, 35K a year? No wonder he left. Maybe it is all about the money, if so, there's more work to do in that area, for sure.
Didn't Murray double his pay to go to X?

Re: Tirone Leaves Program
I don't see that there are any internal issues. Based on talking to the staff at the Chelo's event, and at the two excellent camps they ran the last two weeks, it looks like they are happy and very excited about the upcoming year.
I'm not sure if Luke doubled his pay... but it would not surprise me at all.

We will need to continue to upgrade the pay scales for the assistants. We're not on a level playing field with the programs we want to emulate yet.
It's going to take NCAA tourney bids to get there. The last, biggest step.

Agreed. Win some games in the NCAA tournament and everyone benefits, not only the basketball program but other sports programs and the University as a whole. That's the plan

Re: Tirone Leaves Program
Some of it technically falls in Narragansett, I believe, since Saunderstown is just a village district for the purposes of mail, I think. However, property records are almost always public information in RI, with most towns and cities covered by either Vision or Northeast Revaluation Group. Per the Vision NK database, he bought in May for $985,000. Its last assessment was $708,000, so, that'll probably get a significant bump upward next reval session.Billyboy78 wrote:Saunderstown is part of NK, is it not?

Can't fault Tirone. Not everyone likes the lifestyle. The pay is better as you move up, but I can't imagine being a grown man courting a 17 year old to please, please, please play for my program.

That is correct. Spot on. Now all Dan needs to do is hire me to design him a sick landscape with basketball court, pool, outdoor kitchen/bar, night lighting, and sound system. It would be epic! haha.SGreenwell wrote:Some of it technically falls in Narragansett, I believe, since Saunderstown is just a village district for the purposes of mail, I think. Joe Mazzulla had interest in the DOB job. He put the feelers out which often precedes a formal application. He was told thanks but no thanks. It would have made for a nice story.
